Help for FF novices in my league (1 Viewer)

17seconds

root of all aliai
I want to give some newbies in my league basic strategy info, but I don't want them to know about footballguys.com. The beginners guide on here sells FBG so I can't use that.

Anybody got some links for me to check out that will give them good, basic info? (value of RB vs. WR vs. K, draft strategy, etc)

thanks...

LOL @ staff helping to redirect potential customers away. If the person is a novice, what is there to fear? I don't care if people in my leagues know about FBG. I'll still win more often than not regardless.

And I'd much rather see customers come here to support FBG (and consequently the free message boards) than elsewhere.

I don't mean to come off sounding like a jerk, but honestly, what are you afraid of? That you'll have an informed and competetive league? Personally, I don't get much out of winning leagues full of people who don't know what the hell they are doing.Send them here. Odds are that they will come across it eventually anyway.

Tell them to do a google search.

FWIW, I never mention this site in any leagues. Let everyone get informed however they want. Not my problem.

Maybe he prefers his leaguemates not use the site where he shares his true opinions of players?

Good point. If they know him by his FBG userid. But that's easily remedied as any of the 18,000 aliai here could tell you.

//sarcasm//But Greg, don't you know that real sharks don't care whether their leaguemates know their opinions?

//end sarcasm//

We've all seen posters here admit that they hold back sometimes because they're in upcoming drafts or leagues with other members. I'm not going to slam anyone for that - to each his own.

I'll give kudos to the OP, though, for at least making the attempt to help his leaguemates understand the game & thus giving his league a better chance of being competitive (and, by extension, solid enough to last).

Many newbies know "football", but really don't understand Fasntasy Football. For me, it's all about know the league rules inside and out.

Maybe, I just think that there are ways to post w/o describing exactly how much you like a player. I tell everyone in my league what a great site FBG is and now at least half of them subscribe. It doesn't bother me in the least, but to each his own I guess.

Why would I give them point A-Z in FF right away? These guys will spend hours studing FBG. Let them discover on their own. When FBG gives a waiver wire headsup email during the season, do you really want the other owners in the league to get it?

I wouldn't subscribe to FBG if there was no edge in doing so.

I have directed players not only to the site, but also specifically into threads where I have posted my true opinions. Even if an opponent knows something about how I feel on a certain situation, I would rather be aware that he knows what I think. Also, everything that is important in a draft, trade situation, etc. is never revealed, so I feel like I am always operating with more information than is shown in any post I amy or may not make.

In short, give those guys the link here. It is better you know they are lurking than for them to wander here from another site.

To be the best you've got to beat the best (or something like that). Lead them towards our special newbie forum where we don't post any of the pertinent information.

no, not the IDP forum

funny that people still think they hide this site

what do they live under rocks?
:lmao: too true .... if you play FF you gotta know about Footballguys.com ... it's like air to the species ... a necessary vice ya just can't get by without

:bag:

kupcho1,I know that may look a little off, but we try and help whenever we can.

Besides, if someone starts looking on the innernet, they'll find the best site soon enough. ;)

After all, how would you know that we're the best without a frame of reference?

It isn't like we hide other sites. There is a LINK on our home page.

The trick is to point 'em right to this site... talk up FBG's like none other.

They probably won't take your advice anyways and will always try to find their "own" site for FF info. People are kinda greedy that way... like they've searched the internet and FINALLY found the super-secret hidden gold mine of FF info. And they ain't sharin' it with anybody... :D

Why not just wait until about 3 hours before the draft, then send them links to all the best sites? They will show up dazed and confused. Then you can start rattling off acronyms like ADP, VBD, and such. If you keep mumbling VBD, I bet someone takes Rackers in round 3!

You should send all them to the FBG site and let them read the articles and rankings. If they are that new they will probably just go right off the ranking sheet without tweaking it to your leagues scoring, roster limits, tendencies, etc and you will know who they are going to pick before they do.

If they go right by the numbers or close to it, it will still give you a distinct advantage over the rest of your league.

I am still trying to decide if this thread is REAL or not, but after reading through ALL the comments, I figured I had to post. Your member number is low enough that I am inclined to think it is real, so here goes:

1. FBG is well known. Maybe... MAYBE when they first went pay a few years ago, people were not as aware, but those days are over. Chances are your "newbies" have already found the site.

As for other sites that could help them, here are three I trust through the years:

http://www.fftoolbox.com (already mentioned, but nonetheless a site I trust)

http://www.footballdocs.com

http://www.fftoday.com

I agree wtih other posts. Let them read all they want. In the end, it comes down to each person making their own decision about what to do. The above sites and FBG help with that process and make it easier, but there is really no real substitute for direct experience. They still have to make the choice themselves about what to do. My two cents. Others may disagree, but there it is. :football:
