Help me choose my final keepers... (1 Viewer)

We start:

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, U, 4OF, 4SP, 1RP

Rosters carry 25 players with 9 keepers. It's an AL division, H2H points league. Here is my roster, the top 7 I have listed as keepers. Looking for advice on my last couple guys to carry into the new season out of the bottom names. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Evan Longoria- stud

Grady Sizemore- should be healthy again, but on a bad team

Nick Markakis- waiting for the monster season

Dustin Pedroia- does it all

Robinson Cano- hitting in the new Yankee park has helped

Billy Butler- some might question but I think he's ready to become a great hitter. He's this year's Grienke (see below)

Zack Greinke- kept him last year, and was laughed at by some.

Need to select 2 more keepers from the following list:

Jered Weaver

David Price

Nelson Cruz

Alex Rios

Clay Bucholz

Gavin Floyd

Mark Buehrle

Ervin Santana

I know I need to keep one more starter(maybe 2). I'm leaning towards Price because of his youth and potential dominance. But he was wildly inconsistant last year, you couldn't start him on the road. Most starts I was hoping he would make it to the 5th before throwin 120 pitches. I don't want to lose him to someone else and watch him be dominant for years to come as someone else's ace. This would be more of a futures keep if I decided on him.

Jered Weaver, love him. But I fear that he won't prodcue the same results being in the number 1 slot of the Angels staff. Not sure I trust him to produce as well facing the other teams' top starters.

Ervin Santana, if I knew I would be getting the 2008 version it would be a no brainer. Just not sure he can be counted on for a full season.

Buehrle and Floyd can be redrafted later on, so they're not even a thought.

The only other real possibility would be Nelson Cruz. We're not penalized for strikeouts, and his HR potential might be too good to ignore and I wouldn't have to worry about my OF with Grady and Markakis. But he can go cold for weeks on end, but he can hit 'em in bunches.

So I'm thinking it's Price and Cruz, or 2 pitchers. Price and Weaver?

Any thoughts??

This is fallacious thinking, IMO. Keep Weaver, try and bundle up Cano and Price for a major bat or arm.
Well I don't live by it but I certainly do believe the number 1s face the top two starters of the opponent's rotation more often than not which might lead to less decisions. And I've been tryin to deal Cano since last year. But it's only a 5 team AL division and three other teams have keeper 2B. Everyone is down on Robinson but he had a helluva bounceback year and they're not buyin what Im selling. The only thing that scares me about Cruz is that I read somehwhere he may be in a small platoon situation. He might not be getting 500+ ab's.
Cruz is a no brainer imoI'd go Weaver too
See my concerns about Cruz above. But you wouldn't have any interest in Price? I realize Jered is the better pitcher right now, I just fear losing Price and he becomes the next Johan. Also the Angels a a team concerns me. They've lost some pieces and the AL West has improved which leads me to believe there will be less wins, devaluing Jered a little more. Its a good problem to have I just need to decide who is more valuable.I appreciate the input fellas.

Cruz is just a beast. I don't see how you can throw someone back that has 40 HR potential when your other choices are middling starting pitchers.I think the Angels will still be good, and I like Weaver better than Price but if you're a really big believer in Price I don't think it's a horrible move to keep him over Weaver. Price has more upside, but Weaver is a safer bet to be productive.

True, with Cruz' HR potential, he would be too hard to let go, especially in a H2H points league where a solo HR gets me 6 points. And without too many HR bombers left in the draft after keepers, it would probably be foolish to throw him back. I guess my issue all along has been Price v Weaver. Take the now production over the possible better long term performance. I could always take a chance and try and redraft him(Price), but I'm assuming he goes in the first round before I get to pick.
I would keep Cruz and Weaver.
i pick cruz and price
This is what I've been doing for the last two weeks, back and forth, back and forth. In a way it's good to know it's not that obvious of a choice.

I think some of the bloom is off the rose re: Price, at least in terms of what he's perceived. Personally, I love post-hype pitchers who dominated the minors and then hit a bump when they got rushed too quickly to the majors.
