Help me figure out a song (1 Viewer)

The Nirvana MTV Unplugged performance features an often played cover of David Bowie's "Man Who Sold the World". It prominently features the cello and sounds very nice paired up with Cobain's guitar.

Nope. I know all of those songs well. I heard it on the radio tonight. A retro hits station. The cello/violin, reminds me a bit of early Goo Goo Dolls. It's a slower song though. Cello has a bit of a mourning to it.

Disarm - Smashing Pumpkins
No. A bit more obscure than that. It could possibly be from the 80's as well. I'm thinking 90's though.
There isn't much to go on here. Cello and 80's or 90's alt rock is just too broad. Just taking a stab in the dark....Afghan Whigs, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Psychedlic Furs, and Echo and the Bunnymen all sort of fit the bill here.
I'm quite familiar with all of those bands. The singer is male. None of those for sure. A bit more obscure.

I'm sorry. More obscure?Like 15 year-old band geek, at talent show, in his parents basement obscure? Good luck. You kinda lost me at Goo Goo Dolls anyway.

Do you remember what station you were listening to? That might help us get an idea of bands to choose from....
