Help Needed - Online draft viewing (1 Viewer)

Maybe someone has done this before. We want to have a live (in person) draft like we normally do. We use Yahoo and most people want to keep it that way. However, we have a one or two people that will not be able to attend our draft this year in person.

Is there a way, or site, where we can enter our draft picks online and at our pace. That way the people out of town can at least log on and see who has been picked.

Yahoo has an online draft, but then we all have to be at our own computers and it is not at our own pace, etc.

If they are planning to be on-line for the live draft, then they can be on the phone instead and get a live update of the draft?

Not sure if this works but if the commish is at the draft can he not make picks for everyone at the draft using his account?

I would also suggest you use MFL - then the commish can enter the picks himself I believe. Then whomever is not there can make their own picks.

You can put it at no time limit per pick, so at your own pace for sure.

It is free to just draft using their system as well, I believe.

Yes, good answer, you can do this on MFL. Commish has the ability the can submit picks for any team, so can submit them for people who are there live. The others can draft normally. And you have full control over the timer including not having one at all.

In my league, in which we have a live draft, the league secretary (commissioner) enters the draft picks onto rosters on the website a day or two after the draft. We do not list the actual draft picks, in order, on the website. No one really cares during the season. We just enter the correct players onto each teams roster.

As far as absent owners at draft time......they are expected to find somebody, anybody to be there in person if they themselves cannot be there.

Can I adjust the time per pick or pause a live draft?Last Updated: June 23, 2010 In a standard live draft it is not possible to change the time limit for making a selection in live drafts (The time locked at 90 seconds). If you wish to allow the managers of your league more time in which to make a selection, we suggest that you consider conducting an Offline Draft. In a live auction draft a commissioner may set a nomination time limit of 30, 45, or 60 seconds and a bid time limit of 10, 20, or 30 seconds.During either live draft type a commissioner may pause the draft up to 5 times by calling a 30-second or 3-minute timeout. During each time out the commissioner may undo up to five recent picks.
SKYPE is also an option.Find a Chatroom and type in picks is a simple solution and could help.Ultimately you may need a stand in that can take the persons rankings and instructions.Edit to add: Delegate as much as possible. The draft will be miserable if the commish is bogged down too much. Been there.

there was a guy in our league who could not make our draft and he provided me with a list indicating what position he wanted to draft in each round.

like pick rb, rb, qb,rb, etc. and i simply picked the highest rated (according to sportsline) player at each position

he ended winning the league. i should have charged a finder's fee.

I appreciate the responses. We have, in the past, had people send in there list or had someone use their list and draft for them. This year, due to some unforeseen circumstances, we'd like to have it where the draft can be seen (and not timed).

We may use something like gotomeeting.com and let them see our desktop (if that will work, have't looked into it). But I was hoping for a site where it would show the players on a list and then the commish can just move them to a team and anyone can see online what happened.

Some more info on yahoo's online draft: Anyone not signed into the draft gets their picks automated, and it only takes 10 seconds for the computer to pick someone for you. A friend and I did a test league the other day, and we burned through 60 picks in under 15 minutes. With only 90 seconds on the clock for you picks, anyone using DD or cheatsheets better work quickly.

I used google docs when we had an owner out of town last year. All you do is create a spreadsheet, or you can find a pre-made template, and send the link to your league and they can view the picks in real time. They can draft in real time as well, just give them editing powers and they can type in the name of their pick when it's their turn.

It worked great for us last year and I'm gonna have to use it again this year since one of our owner's is moving out of state. I used a slightly modified version of this spreadsheet last year: http://docs.google.com/previewtemplate?id=...amp;mode=public

But it's pretty easy to make your own. Good luck.

You can draft for free at MFL, I'd just do it there and have someone input all the live picks at the draft.

Then I'd consider switching from yahoo to MFL because yahoo is crap...

MFL let's you test drive their product free. Just an fyi.
re-reading this thread, you've gotta try MFL. I know I'm quoting myself here but most of the other suggestions are cumbersome or annoying. You could grab a couple friends and try a 3 person draft for five minutes just to familiarize yourself. Delete that league (emailing MFL) and create one for your official draft now that you've seen it in action. There's mocks out there you can signup for too. If ya do one of them, you'll be familiar with MFL too.As far as I know, MFL wants you to do this. They believe you try their product and you'll be hooked. Take them up on this.I soooo don't see a better option. MFL has league XML files. XML is a very very common file format that you can open with all sorts of programs. Once open in excel or open office or whatever program you like, you can delete columns or just do "Save As" to put it into any format that you prefer. Should you wish to move to a different site, I imagine having your league data in any format you want is exactly what you want.
