Here is an example of stats gone wild in Baseball (1 Viewer)

He's actually tied for fourth. Game Score is a fun tool that's used to quantify the weak Quality Start statistic. Game Score gives bonus points for SOs, which makes more sense in the context of a normal game than one where there nobody on base.

All ten on the list were pretty damned strong performances

McNally and Ruth is above Larsen because they pitched 11 and 14 innings respectively. Clemens is up there because of the 15 Ks.

The highest game score for a nine inning game in the history of baseball was Kerry Wood's one-hit, no walk, 20-strikeout shutout performance for the Chicago Cubs against the Houston Astros on May 6, 1998. His game score was 105 (50 + 27 + 10 + 20 - 2).Higher scores have been accomplished in extra-inning games. Harvey Haddix scored a 107 for the game in which he took a perfect game into the 13th inning. Juan Marichal and Warren Spahn scored 112 and 97, respectively, during a complete game 16-inning match up. In their famous 26-inning duel from 1920, Joe Oeschger scored 149 and Leon Cadore scored 141.

I think you're missing the point. These aren't the 10 "best" postseason pitching performances, they are the 10 highest game scores. Nowhere did the author try to argue that one was better than another.

:goodposting: Bill James never claimed it was a perfect statistic. I think he's consistently stated in his writings that no stat by itself paints a total picture of what's happening on the field. But as a relative comparison of what constitutes a "good" pitching performance, I think it's pretty useful.

Wood's 20 K game is the most dominating pitching performance I have ever seen.
