Herman Miller Aeron Chair (1 Viewer)

You should work for the federal government. In my 9+ years here (including today, my last at this job), it's the only chair I've ever sat in and that's through four different work locations.

And yes, they're awesome.

We have similar chairs at work and I dont like the mesh. I kept an old school cushion one when they upgraded the building a few years ago.

It's overpriced, no doubt about that. However, it's also sturdy, built to last, and fairly comfortable. I bought one for the same reason ($150 chairs fall apart) and this has a 12 year warranty.

Anyone have one of these? Do they live up to the hype?

I typically pick up chairs for our office in the $150 range from Costco, but they keep falling apart. I'm considering picking up some used Aeron's for about $500/chair. Is it worth it? Any other sturdy/comfortable office chair suggestions?

How long until they fall apart? I would expect a chair to last at least a few years. If it falls apart any sooner than that and I'm bringing it back. Its costco. They'll take it back.

I have a standing desk at work, but use this exact chair when seated. Excellent chair, though I've sat in a couple other HM chairs that I'd probably prefer if given the opportunity to order a new one right now.

I also was tired of locally bought crap chairs failing every few years. Not a good recipe for your back and overall bodily health.

Bought a HM Aeron on eBay "used" and it was brand new. After a few years it still looks brand new. Worth every penny for all the reasons you've read about it. Get the leather armrests for a small up charge.

It's not like other "mesh" chairs. I can't imagine anyone putting a cushion on one.

I have one at work and I think it is ok. I don't think it's as comfortable as most people, but I prefer lots of cushion, and this has none.

I had some tailbone pain 8 years ago (pause for jokes). Work is pretty frugal and I knew that if I got a chair through them it would be inadequate. I bought a cousin to the Aeron called the Mirra from a Herman Miller outlet store (HM headquarters is near where I work). Even from the outlet store, it was really expensive, but totally worth it. If I go to another office for a week, my tailbone starts to hurt again, but it never has in my office with the Mirra chair.

http://www.officeoutlet.net/ - the outlet store. Very old-school outlet store, not like the crappy megaoutlet chain stores that save you 5%.

Timely as i was just standing here in my office staring at what is probably the 5th or 6th staples/office depot/officemax chair i've had in the last 8 years. It's awful. covering is peeling off, cushion has been mashed into wafer thin #### numbing concrete. and this last one wasnt exactly cheap. figured i'd drop the $300 for the "premium" model so i could make it last for a few years. Not to mention the ergonomic benefits

The biggest obstacle i have to buying in to one of these ultra high end chairs is where do you test them out? No way i'm dropping 500-1000 on a chair without even touching it first

ETA: i'm 6'5 so i need a chair with depth otherwise the back of my thighs go numb by the end of the day

We have Aeron chairs at work.... only time they move away for them is specialty ergonomic purposes.

I am also 6'5'' and heavier than I should be. At 6'5'', you will want the "C" size chair. Sitting in one now and it is quite comfortable and proportioned right for me.
