Hershey's Chocolate World (1 Viewer)

Has anyone been here? I will be passing through the area and was wondering if it is worth a stop with a 12 and 11 yr old. I was thinking we might do the tour and then make our own candy bar or do the chocolate tasting experience. We do not have enough time to make the amusement park worth while.

Was there 30 years ago and it was heaven, sure it is better now.

I was 13 when I was there.

Was just there the week before last. Definitely worth a stop. I thought the Make Your Own Candy thing was overpriced, but the kids loved it (13 and 5). The tour is just a quick 10 minute ride through a fake factory. If you have the time, I'd recommend the trolley ride through town. There are 2 different ones...we did the shorter 45 minute ride. They have actors on the trolley and it's pretty amusing. Definitely cracked my kids up. We didn't do the Chocolate Tasting, but spoke to some folks who enjoyed it. They pro-rate the parking if you're only going to Chocolate World. It's free if you stay less than 3 hours, but it jumps up fast so people don't try to use their lot in lieu of the amusement park lot.

We also spent a small fortune buying candy, but that was expected.

Definitely do the Trolley ride. Best thing outta the whole deal. They hand out several types of candy on that thing.

We take the kids to Hershey Park twice per summer, they love chocolate world. I am tired of that friggin tour though... we HAVE to do it every. damn. time.

Skip Fuddruckers and eat at Troegs. Seriously. Even if you aren't drinking, they have some of the best food in the area. You can eat at a Fuddruckers (or something exactly like it) anywhere.

Red Robin is down the street

Make your own candy bar is expensive but my daughter loved it.

the free fake factory tour ride is ok.

The 4d movie is better than the old one. The new one is upgraded.

If you're not going to eat at Troegs, eat at the Parkside (around the corner from the Park. It is a bar, though, so keep that in mind as far as atmosphere). Like mentioned before, don't eat at a chain. Eat at a local joint.

Troeg's looks really good. Unfortunately my wife insists upon getting to the park when it opens and not leaving until it closes to "maximize our fun"

All that actually does is make everyone tired and maximize my frustration.

Wow, quite the debate on where to eat. I just wanted to know if Chocolate World was a decent stop for 11/12 yr olds. I wasn't sure if it was geared more towards little kids. I have not been to a Fudruckers in years. I would go there over Red Robin if I was choosing between the two simply due to the long time since going to one. Troegs looks pretty good...downside is that we will be on a road trip and I don't know if I could resist the temptation to try several brews.

Sorry. Yes, stop and check out Chocolate World. You'll all have a good time.

Or the Parkside (but it IS a bar)

Things at HP to exploit - Troegs, Chocolate World, Fahrenheit, Skyrush, Stormrunner, Water Park

Things at HP to avoid - Fuddruckers, Laff Trakk, Sidewinder, Trailblazer, ZooAmerica, all shows

I live an hour and half away.

Meh, make the wife drive for a few hours after lunch.

I'll occasionally stop from NC to CT to visit my folks with the kids. I never stop at the park since it is a drive through visit (in a 12 hour drive), but we'll try and time it to grab lunch/candy. My favorites are the chocolate cookies with the peanut butter chips. So freaking good. I'll throw in some chocolate chip ones to make sure I can hoard the ones I like.

I used to love going there as a kid since it was only a 3-4 hour drive for my parents. We always stayed at the Hershey Lodge (OMG it is still there, still the same), which was always a blast. Arcarde, shuffle board, indoor pool, air hockey, etc. So much fun and then one time at Chocolate World I got picked by the employees to taste test Kit Kats. They had a bunch of variations and I mowed threw them all and gave my honest feedback. None were awful, but you could tell the difference. Hopefully, I played a big part in what they are today. Free candy as a kid was awesome.

ah. Take advantage of the preview night.

night before you get 3 free hours if you but a ticket for the next day

We are heading to Niagara and then down through Hershey this summer with my wife and two daughters (14 and 11).   Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.  My kids are more interested in water parks than roller coaster parks so I see they have some pretty nice stuff in Hershey for that.

The Herseys trolley/bus tour (not the factory one)  is very interesting. Park is good too for the kids. Red Robin way way over Fudruckers

Ok so maybe bus tour one day, then waterpark the other day in Hershey area.   Depending on weather of course.

In terms of Gettysburg, do you think a day is enough for that?  I mean, I'd spend a couple days there if it was just me, but I don't want to bog down too much either, plus a few days later we are hitting DC so I don't want to over-museum the trip.

We did a three hour guided tour of Gettysburg and it was plenty for me the wife and my daughter. He hit all the high points including spots where Michigan units fought(were from Michigan) as well as where my grandfathers civil war unit fought.

If you are just doing the water park one day is fine. Get there right as it opens.  And hit the tube waterslides first.   The waterpark closes earlier than the park so you can hit chocolate world after if you want.

If you have any specific questions let me know and I'll try my best.  We go every year for probably the past 12 years

DOH eta:  Your 1 day question was gettysburgh

Headed to Pittsburgh at the end of the month.  Making the three hour drive east to take the kids here before going back to Pittsburgh. Should we just spend the time at Hershey world and skip Hershey Park, then hit up Troegs?

We want to do the chocolate tour stuff, also want to hit the waterpark.   Wife is trying to keep the waterpark stuff to a minimum but I want to keep the involvement level up so I'm thinking a nice full day at the waterpark in late june might be just the ticket.

We plan on arriving at the Canada side of the Falls Thursday evening, then staying overnight Thursday and Friday. Then heading out early Saturday for Hershey.  Arriving around mid afternoon I guess.  So from that point my wife wants to just do the half day waterpark package to save a few bucks.  Then Sunday morning maybe get up and do Gettysburg, then back to Hershey for Chocolate tour.

Does that seem reasonable?  Are there gaps or am I packing too much in as far as you can tell?

One day is enough, but could definitely do more.  Visitor Center in the AM, then drive around the battlefield in the afternoon (maybe buy one of those auto tour CDs so you don't have to get out of the car at every plaque).

Chocolate World is basically just a big store with a ride/tour where you learn about Hersheys. To me, it's the least must-see of the 3. Hit the water park early, grab lunch/dinner at Troegs and go back and ride rides in the afternoon/evening.

Wife wants to cram Hershey and Gettysburg into one day.  Personally I think that's going to ruin one or both.  Seems like we could maybe drive down from Buffalo, do Gettysburg later afternoon for 4 or 5 hours.  Then head to Hershey, stay over night.  Do the chocolate stuff and waterpark the next day.  Does that make more sense?

I think that's feasible, but you are probably going to be a bit rushed at Gettysburg (I may be a bit more history obsessive than most though).  It can be easy to spend a couple of hours in the Visitor Center, but you could skip some of the videos, etc. and limit that to 30-45 minutes (just know that you are not going to be able to see all of that).  And you are probably going to want to pace some of the driving, so you can be sure to leave time to walk around some of the more popular stops, such as Little Round Top, Pickett's Charge field, the High Water Wark, etc.  I've only done the self-guided thing, but maybe a guided tour is the best way to make sure you get the most out of it.

The guided tour for three hours is definitely the way to go. You hit all the high points as well as the fact you can customize your tour to see what you what with the guide. You won’t be disappointed.

The Hersey’s trolley tour includes free assorted candy (full size bars) at each stop as well.

What EZ said - chocolate worlds has the following - a free rid through a "fake factory" , a 4 d movie, create your own candy bar, you can also take the trolley tour - all those are extra.

Then you can shop and buy giant hersheys bars!#!@# and other stuff.

The Hershey Story opened on Choclate ave a few years ago and we haven't done that yet but that supposed to be a cool museum to do if you aren't doing rides.

https://hersheystory.org/   - its not too far from duck donuts....

I'll see what the latest guided tours will be, and then probably hit that in the late afternoon when we get to the area.  Then we are freed up the following day to do the waterpark and hersheyworld.  I

To be honest, if it were just me, I'd skip the Hershey stuff pretty much altogether.  But alas I am just a dumb dad.

Been a couple years now since we stopped...the little fake factory ride was ho-hum, but I suppose if you are a little kid it might be cool.  They gave some free samples to us coming off the ride.  Making your own chocolate bar was way overpriced and a fairly long wait when we went.  The most exciting part was designing the label.   Other than that, it is a big candy store.

Thanks for the honest review.  That's about what I figured.  I couldn't care less about some fake factory or making my own candy.  Sitting around a waterpark in the sun is more my speed....and to be honest that's more what my kids and wife want to do too.  They just don't realize it.
