with all the hoopla about how this game ended, I was just wondering if in the press conference if anybody questioned him calling 2 consectutive pass plays before Stover kicked the go ahead FG......on first down they picked up 9 yards, then they THREW two incomplete passes, hardly running any time off the clock or making Clev use a timeout, which eventually helped them win the game.....

to me this is one of the worst cases of a coach costing his team a game.....there is no way you pass on both of those plays......

Per Billick:

On not running the clock down past 26 seconds before allowing Matt Stover to kick the go-ahead field goal:

“We were on the 30 on a cold damp night, we have a lot of faith in Matt Stover. We were trying to get the yardage and we had a little out route that kind of got away from us. Had we completed that, the idea was by the nature of the route, if caught, would have bought us another five, six, seven yards and gotten out of bounds and allowed us another call if we chose to. Didn’t turn out that way and fortunately Matt came in and hit it. You’ve got to hope that you can cover kicks well enough and make that a longer field that it doesn’t allow a team to come back. Obviously we didn’t get that done.’’

IMHO, Billick is just covering his own a## for his inept clock managment. This is not the first time this season that he has cost the team a win late in the game with his play calling.

Here's in-depth analysis: Billick is a bad coach.

He was masked in Minnesota because of Culpepper and Moss. But what offense wouldn't be great with Moss and Culpepper in their primes?

And he inherited an amazing defense. Most of the guys were already there before he got there(with exceptions to Suggs and Reed, who were drafted more by Ozzie Newsome).

He always said that he would turn around the offseason. And he never could

Drew Forrester (AM1570) was saying this morning that Stover told Billick that he wasn't comfortable making a FG longer than 42 yds. Billick was trying to get those extra 5 yds to put him in that range. Apparently they weren't confident that they could get the yardage on the ground.Forrester does have some connections and he sounded very confident in his explanation. It does make some sense that the coach would ask the kicker how far he could kick given the conditions. That's pretty much a feel thing based on how Stover was doing in warmups and throughout the game.Sounds like a plausable excuse, but it might just be spin. Billick is terrible at clock management but will spin with the best of them.

He wanted to replay the Bengal game earlier in the year?!? Still can't believe we stopped them with 7 shots from inside the 5 in Week 1.-QG

Scenario: Billick runs it into the line, no yardage is gained, Stover misses the FG. Moron fan: "Billick is an idiot, Cleveland is stacking the box, you just had two successful pass plays, it's still a long field goal, why not throw it there?"

Scenario: Pass is completed for a big gain, Baltimore sits on the ball, Stover makes the FG. Moron fan: "Gutsy play call!"
