Hey FBG's (1 Viewer)

smackdaddies

Footballguy
with the current state of the NFL?

I am curious how much the old sideshow to the NFL has been hurt by their shenanigans. Sales/signups compared to last year, etc.

I'll leave any formal commentary on business trends to David and Joe, although I suspect it's safe to say that the kind of specifics you're alluding to are squarely in the "not really any of your business" category. One thing I will say, though, is that our business is very cyclical, and as you know we've always had the site and all of its content available free of charge in the early part of the preseason, and certainly throughout May.

I wont buy a subscription until I know there is football this year.

I want to do a startup dynsaty this year but wont until all the uncertainty is cleared up

Ive subsribed since as far back as i can remember, 2003 maybe? I even remember buying the stupid CD's back in the day to help support the site. I wont be anymore after i received some sort of child like timeout for who knows what last month.

edit, spelling

just curious. I wouldn't mind if any one had any links to other commentary about it (in general, not just a FBG) in the pressSeems to me the old FF sideshow could be taking it in the shorts, but perhaps not. Just another side impact of the lockout. Kind of like the impact to the Green Bay area from the loss of all the stuff that goes on long before the preseason games start. I understand that details could contain propriotary business information.

We make nearly 70% of our subscription revenue after August 1st so it's impossible to know what impact this will have at this time.

I feel for businesses in the FF industry. If there is no deal until say August with a shortened season I would say a 50% dropoff in subs might be a best case scenario. I subscribe here first and foremost for the contest so a place like FBG.com is probably more insulated than other sites.

This is a :goodposting: I see the $25 "donation" as a entry into a 20k fantasy football league.I know i pay $75 for other leagues and only win a few hundred, so for a chance to turn $25 into 20k, sign me up.

I find any 'it's not worth it' opinion to be so absurd as to not even worth arguing with. I think of other $29 purchases I make during the year, and cannot think of any that are as smart as a FBG subscription. Rankings and predictions? I barely read them. But the columns during the season, Chase's QBBC and DTBC articles, the IDP coverage....If you are thinking that hard about a $29 investment, you maybe should be doing more constructive things with your free time, like emptying the chemical toilet in your trailer.

I have been a long time subscriber....i don't see myself changing that trend. 30 bucks a year is worth Friday's in the free for all....This site has provided me with years of enjoyment, so i think i can stick with them through a potential strike. I think there are many others that feel the same way. My $.02.....

I thought that way too until I saw -Residents of Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, North Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont and Washington may play and have their places noted in the standings, but are not eligible to win any prizes

Bummer. Really no excuse for living in any of those states anyway. :boxing:

I think this lockout is gonna kill the ff mag industry, not the websites. Most of their content would be in the final stages at this point.

Something to do with fantasy football being considered gambling in those states, I would imagine? I always knew that some states did, but not which ones. Maybe this is the list?

I've been a subscriber for the past few years but I'm going to pass this year after Jeff Pasquino predicted a Saints 105, Seahawks -3 playoff score. The strength of this website is in the forum, not the staff.
Seriously? That's why you are not going to subscribe?Talk about over-sensitive. CapnJB here takes the cake!
Well, thank you for the cake. It was actually a combination of the fact that Maryland residents can't participte in the contests (well I could participate but it would be as much fun as playing poker with play money), the disjointed layout of the subscriber content, the fact that personally I pulled most of the useful information from the free part of this forum and then one of the staff writers makes a juvenille -3 predition for the score of a playoff game. Had any random user made that prediction they would have been branded fanboi and scoffed ad nausuem. But that's just me.

That's completely wrong. Most of the staff were former posters who were strong on the forums so that's one of the reasons they earned the job. Coming from someone who's been around here awhile, I thought most of last year that the strength of the website is in the staff and that the board has gotten weaker.

disagree 100%. Ever read the threads? They go off topic usually and there will be piss wars for 30 posts in legit threads. You have to sift through the bs to get anything.

The staff I enjoy. The audible is the best ff podcast by far, jene bremel and John norton are excellent for idp.

So what if one staffer was wrong about the saints game, probably 95% of football fans thought the same.

Are you really so dense as to think this prediction was actually serious? If you took his message seriously then you must think a score of -3 is actually possible; at which point I would like to say that the real heart of the problem on this forum is that there is a lack of a sarcasm emoticon. Some people just don't get that you're joking unless you attach a smiley at the end of the message and for that Jeff, I think you deserve a "Shame on you" and a good bit of finger wagging in your direction. How dare you mislead your readers like that?! Can't you just say "the game will be a blowout" like everyone else predicted instead of trying to be all funny? FF is serious business and has no room for any humor... at all. SERIOUSLY! :)

Except unless you don't enjoy being in shorts being outside on the patio watching the games in an Arizona December :) There are ways to get around it ;) :boxing:

Yea. But you *COULD* multiply your subscriptions so far by 4 or so and tell us how happy you'd be if that was your 2011 take.

He may forgive you but I never will. I never will.

I've never subscribed (here or anywhere else), but I think I might do it this year. Hopefully the lockout ends soon.

Sidenote: For those that paid for a 3-year subscription and this year's NFL season is cancelled, what happens?
You paid for three years. Like we didn't say the rookie scouting thingy would come all three years we didn't say football would happen all three years. :)I'm pretty sure they would tack on another year if there is no football.
