It was widely covered here locally both on sports radio and in print. And the fact that Torain was one of the last to make the team can speak volumes.

What was the order in which the Redskins players made the team? How did they tell them? Did they have all the players sit around in a circle while Shanahan read off the names of the lucky 53? Did the lucky 53 jump up and down as their names were read?
Shanahan: “Torain beat Evan out in the last game and that’s why he’s the third running back. We were hoping he could come back and play well and we thought he played well against Tampa to earn himself a position.”

I stand corrected. I didn't even know Torain played in the preseason.

I'm still trying to find where it says Torain was one of the last players to make the team. Can you bold that for me?

It says he was the last running back. The point that's being made is that Shanahan was considering cutting Torain. So, that's all that really matters. I was wrong. I don't think I was annoying and wrong, just wrong.

Could be.At the risk of "being annoying," I'm still not sure that's true. Ryan Torain was injured for the first three games of the preseason. He didn't practice with the team until August 27th, five days before the preseason finale. Obviously, he didn't suit up and didn't receive a single carry in the preseason until that finale.

Evan Royster, on the other hand, played in the first preseason game for the Redskins. He was healthy for the next two preseasons games, but did not receive a single carry. Ryan Torain dominated carries in the final preseason game, the only one in which he played.

So, what I'm saying is that Torain was never in danger of being cut, and Shanahan's not going to come out and say that. Doing so runs the risk of alienating players who play all preseason and making them believe you gift positions on the 53 man roster. He was the #3 back because he was injured, but Royster's usage (or lack therof) in the preseason makes it pretty apparent that the Redskins had little to no plans for Royster.

Maybe Torain was one of the last players in Shanahan's mind. I'm not sure one way or the other and I don't think it matters much. The reason, if any, was because he had a broken hand and couldn't play or practice.

so the Torain owners think he is the man.....the Hightower owners think he is the man.

With Shanahan, anyone and everyone will have a chance to be the RB, and it would not surprise me if Helu has a majority of carries in the next few games. The Washington running game can be very productive, but isn't worth the headache.

“Torain beat Evan out in the last game and that’s why he’s the third running back. " I think that makes it seem like he was in danger of being cut. I also don't think it really matters whether Shanahan considered cutting him since the only reason he would have cut him was because of his health not his skills. All that matters is that Torain will be the starting running back as long as he's healthy.

Agreed.

bahahahahaha

you guys are actually trying to figure out Shanahan. His official depth chart means jack/ Your wasting your time.

per rotoworld, THT is now healthy. not sure about their analysis re: the depth chart tho:

Tim Hightower (shoulder) is listed as probable for Week 7 after turning in a full practice Friday.

He practiced fully each day this week. Hightower can't be used in fantasy leagues after playing zero snaps in Week 6, but he appears to be back to full health. He currently seems to be third in line for carries behind Ryan Torain and Roy Helu. Helu played over Hightower in passing situations last week. Oct 21 - 5:38 PM

Tim Hightower said he doesn't think he tore his ACL in Sunday's loss to the Panthers. Hightower's X-rays Sunday came back negative, but the Monday MRI will tell the real story. The non-contract injury certainly looked like a severe ligament strain if not a tear. Hightower was the clear feature back before going down, racking up 17 carries for 88 yards in two-plus quarters. Oct 23 - 4:55 PM

I trust an MRI more than Tim's opinion.

X_Rays don't show soft tissue injuries. Hope he isn't hurt too bad. Always sucks to see players get injured.

Exactly. Which is why I made the comment about the MRI.

I can't live like this anymore. Lucifer can have his RBs back, I don't want them. I think it's time to let someone else in my league take on this never-ending-battle with the blood sucking coach from Washington.

I just saw on the ESPN scroll that the Redskins staff thinks Hightower tore his ACL according to Adam Schefter.

Edit: Only caught last half first time

Tim Hightower officially out for the season with a torn ACL.

That sucks. He seems like a hard-working guy.

ETA: Fixed incorrect link.

Ok, so Shark Pool, what does that do for Helu?
You have to think that Torain will still be the guy on first and second down. Helu will bet he third down back with some situational snaps tossed mixed in. Torain will have to struggle in order for Helu to get the bulk of the carries. This is certainly not out of the question.

Helu was already getting 3rd down work, even with Hightower's excellent blocking ability. I'd say it's only a matter of time before he gets significant touches.
I know you've been told this before, but good gawd do I wanna smack my screen everytime I see your avy.

As a season long Timmy owner, I have to say I feel more relieved than anything. Sadly, I think a season ending injury was the only way I was ever coming down from my THT high. Helu is on the waiver but no way am I getting back into bed with the Washington backfield.

Seems even more logical given that Torain has a history of success when healthy and Helu has the explosivness to be a winning lotto ticket to the big dance.

Helu could be your lotto ticket one week but the following week he'll leave you back at the convenience store pull tabs counter with your pants around your ankles.
