Hines Ward injury? (1 Viewer)

Read a blurb somewhere yesterday that said Ward suffered a bad knee or leg bruise yesterday and sat most of the 2nd half. Could be Holmes time to shine?

I heard "bone bruise" which you'd think would take longer to heal.

Then again, Ward's a warrior and might play through it, but I wouldn't expect it. The matchups over the next couple weeks aren't bad, SEA probably being the better one, but with a BYE after that, it wouldn't surprise me if Hines sits and heals up.

Ward bruised a leg bone while absorbing a hard hit from San Francisco safety Mark Roman in the third quarter Sunday and left the game.

Impact: The Steelers did not announce Ward's injury until the game ended, but Ward was not seen on the field during the fourth quarter. He was spotted leaving the Steelers' locker room, in street clothes, with about two minutes remaining. After the game, doctors were seen showing X-rays of Ward's leg to team officials, but no further information about the injury was disclosed. Monitor the developments throughout the week to see if the injury is serious

How long does a bone bruise usually keep someone out of the lineup?

If Hines is truly hurt, does anyone bump Santonio Holmes any higher than he already is?

Id say for the non-athlete its about 2 weeks. I had a bone bruise in HS and it hurt for about 2-3 weeks. Didnt miss any time cause I played FB...not much to it.

I would think it would impact a WR a lot more.

Dale Lolley is a writer for the Washington, PA Observer, and also writes a blog called NFL From the Sidelines. He's pretty accurate with his observations of the Steelers and here is his take:"I have a feeling that Hines Ward's knee injury is a little worse than the bone bruise the team is calling it. Team doctors were showing president Art Rooney X-rays after the game and there was a look of concern on their faces."

The Post-Gazette is reporting that Ward had and MRI scheduled last evening.

We'll get more details during Tomlin's press conference tomorrow afternoon.

For now, it's just speculation.

 He's really not that high right now so of course I think this is a huge bump for him is Ward misses any time.

Ward got absolutely cracked on back to back plays. He bounced up faster from the second than he did the first. That doesn't mean he is injury free, just that he didn't stay down on the field for even a moment.

HUGE bump up for Holmes, no?
I'd vote for a smaller bump. Keep in mind that Hines only had one catch for two yards this week. Holmes ended up with 3 for 49.I'd project just a tick down for Ben and Willie, too, given that Ward's blocking could be absent.

Well they werent really passing much, they had a few defensive TDs, and Ward got hurt in the 3rd quarter. Id rather look at the targets from the 1st 2 games.

After saying he'd be "fine" for Week 4, Hines Ware (bone bruise) was seen on crutches and with a brace on his right knee Monday.

"I'm trying to maintain," he said. Ward is the ultimate gamer and it's unlikely that a bruise will keep him out for Sunday's game at Arizona. The MRI Ward underwent Monday revealed no structural damage to his knee.

WR production on the Steelers has always depended on the way the game unfolds (except for the Maddox mania in 2002-2003). If the Steelers are able to control this game like they have the other two, then I wouldn't expect vastly different numbers. The Cleveland game is appearing to be the anomaly at this point, and with good reason as the Browns have allowed 11 TD passes in 3 games.

For what it's worth, Ward says he is fine and the MRI reveals no tears. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Yeah, the Steelers do pass the ball at around the same level as most other teams, until they get a big lead. If the game against Arizona is close, expect big days from Ben and Holmes. If it's not, then bump them down.

The Steelers should win this game relatively easily so I would hesitate to start Roethlisberger or Holmes. Wait until they get a tougher opponent where they're more likely to need to score more to maintain the lead before choosing members of Pittsburgh's pass game for your FF team.

I don't know many teams that have better options than Holmes in 3 start WRs

I could always start Lee Evans
