Hobby Project Help (1 Viewer)

Ok, it’s more of help setting up a prank, but it involves stuff I’m sure a hobbiest would be able to help me out on.

We found a disturbingly spooky doll at a job site and it has been getting hidden around the office to scare people. People have gotten used to it though. I’d like to take it one step further and make the head rotate.

I’m thinking ideally of putting a low RPM motor somehow attached to the head inside the doll along with hooking in some sort of motion switch. Ideally parts all sourced off of Amazon.

Would a setup including these components work somehow?

Motor

Battery Holder

Motion Sensor

Easier or cheaper way to do this?

You know what would be freaky ####

have it drop blood tears or from the mouth remotely

or like a kid giggling noise when people have their back to it

I would set it up to drop on people's heads as soon as they enter the break room.  Bosses would approve since it would discourage employees from taking breaks.

Go with the 4 AA battery holder to get your 6VDC for your motor.  You should be able to make this work.  Some sound would be even better.

I agree with @Big League Chew  We need a pic of the doll.

ETA:  Motion sensor you linked is 12v-24v.  May need to find something else like a 12V motor and a 8 AA battery holder, or 2x4 AA battery holders wired in parallel.  Unless you can find a 6V motion sensor.

Yeah, I’ve been having a hard time with the motion sensor. Good point on the voltage. Maybe I’m better off skipping the head spinning and going with something like this light activated recordable sound module.

I could then record some evil child laughter. Plan would be to have it’s head hanging down out of the ceiling set to laugh evilly when the light comes on in the office (or when a drawer is opened that it’s inside, etc).

Maybe this is the easier/better solution.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of grabbing a pic. I’ll try to remember to take one Monday and post.

I could really use that module if it only played one time then stopped.  :D   Looks like it might loop.  ETA:  Hmmm.  Says it CAN play in a loop.

The challenge with motion modules is usually that their signal is momentary - but the action you want to trigger would take time.  You'd need some sort of a relay controller to have it spin for longer, otherwise it would literally only spin WHILE motion was detected or something.  Why not buy a super-cheap RC car?  Hack off the control system and the drive motor, and attach the drive motor to the doll head.  You could just glue the wheel on to the neck inside or something.  Then you can just use the control to make it spin whenever you want.

I thought about the RC car also, but was thinking he might want it to activate when he's not around.

I had a roommate that had a one foot tall Boba Fett with a motion sensor.  Only said a couple of things, including "He's no good to me dead."  We placed it at the main entry to our place.

I get very little enjoyment out of pranks I'm not there to witness 1st hand...that's just me personally.  What's the fun in it if I can't see their reaction!   :D
