Holmgren making bid for 1.01 (1 Viewer)

Holmgren is apparently offering most of the 2010 draft and some of his 2011 haul to move up for the 1st overall pick, presumably to select Sam Bradford as the Browns new franchise QB. Now, if true, I have to say this raises Bradford in my eyes. Holmgren's track record with QB scouting is impeccable, and if he's willing to mortgage his team's next two drafts to land the guy, that says a lot.

I highly doubt this happens, of course, but it's his WILLINGNESS to do so that speaks volumes.

Mike Holmgren just told me he's calling the Rams one last time about #1. Willing to deal most of 2010 picks, pick(s) in 2011. #NFLDraft

Hard to believe, because if most of 2010, and some of 2011 of CLE's picks were actually offered, this deal would have already been done and Bill Devaney would be popping a champagne cork about now.

Seriously, even if you need a QB, this kid is worth $50m guaranteed?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OOOOO!

This team needs about 3 years of solid drafting all around. Not a Ricky Williams / Mike Ditka type of deal.

Im really suprised teams seem that much higher on Bradford than Clausen.
My 100% unscientific, subjective opinion is that Clausen has bust written all over him.Of course, I also thought Leftwich would be better than Palmer, so what do I know about projecting QBs?

That's pretty ballsy. If you knew you were getting Peyton Manning. It was completely 100% lead pipe lock. Would you trade all your 2010 and some 2011 draft picks to get him?

I'm glad to hear it (from a Lions perspective). Even if the Rams don't take the deal, when you have a team beating down your door to take Sam Bradford, you don't in turn then select someone else.

Suh to the Lions.

Except you don't know if you're getting Peyton Manning. You could be getting David Carr, Tim Couch, Alex Smith, or JaMarcus Russell.Sliding from 1 to 7 and getting a multitude of other picks could actually be quite a deal for the Rams. Not that I think this rumor has many legs.

CLE 2010 picks (though holmgren didn't promise ALL of them :suds: )... if added to STL... counting 4.1 as practically a 3rd rounder, that would give the rams EIGHT picks in the first three rounds... not to mention they already controlled the top of day two & three (2.1 & 4.1), and those could be strategic spots and picks capable of generating further additional picks... they could spin a pick or two off to get extra picks in day two in 2011...

Thanks for listing them out, Bob. An excellent point is the potential for packaging them into even better picks--something which Devaney has reportedly wanted to do. What's better for a struggling franchise? the 1.7, 2.1, and a late 1st rounder they got by packaging picks, or the 1.1?

The Rams are no where near contention. Drafting Bradford would mean they are no where near contention with a QB who is no where near starting on a team that would get him killed.

I understand that the Rams have passed on some "franchise" QB's so far but I dont think Sam Bradford is the guy who can lead them to the promise land, nor do I think he would survive one season behind that offensive line.

Even if all you get is a 2nd and a third, the Rams should jump on that. They could still get Clausen and fill some holes and save themselves a ton of money.

Let Cleveland get yet ANOTHER bust at QB in the first round.

doesn't make any sense at all for Cleveland.

they need every one of their draft picks, and could use more.

getting a team's draft is more meaningful when they have a relatively high 1st, 2nd & 3rd, and two additional 3rds...

Definitely. That being said, I would be against this because of all of the holes they have.
So definitely yes, or no b/c it wouldn't help your team?
If it were a sure thing, then yes. But it isn't, so no. Clear as mud?

If this offer is made, the Rams are morons if they don't take it. With all of those draft picks, they could revamp a squad that is clearly lacking in talent. Bradford is not a sure thing number 1, anyway, so why not take all of those picks and take another QB with one of them?

local reporter shooting this rumor down... but there is still time left... it could happen up until CLE pick...

Bernie Miklasz

From Rams Park: nothing shaking on the trade front. Rams set to take Sam Bradford. Team source: "There will be no surprises."

I agree, but the Rams must be thinking... If Holmgren wants to give up his entire draft (and then some) for Bradford, he must be worth it.

Just assuming that this rumor was true. Holgren actually wanted to trade up for Bradford.

Am I crazy in thinking that the Rams could take Clausen at 2.01 and trade Bradford? Bradford is not under contract and it not like the Rams couldn't use Joe Haden and a bunch of draft picks.

Unlike scenario I know but it is interesting.
