SEATTLE

5th round: FB Owen Schmitt. Dude is a beast and perhaps mentally deranged from what I've seen in clips. Seattle needs his attitude on special teams and leading the way on run plays. He's going to be an instant fan favorite.

STL - Loved the Chris Long pick. You should the love the #2 overall pick but I'm so glad they went with him over Dorsey.

I hate the 2nd pick

I like the 4th pick

Steelers - loved their 1st and 2nd rounders, definitely went BPA rather than reach for need there. I also like their 3rd. I'm a bit lukewarm after that.

Vikings - Tyrell Johnson

They needed to get faster and more athletic at safety.

Booty is a close 2nd. Nice value there in the 5th.

Pretty easy...DeSean Jackson for my Eagles.

I would've been OK with them taking him at 1.19 and they got him a full round later. The rest of our draft MAY be valuable in 2009 and beyond, but DJ was drafted to help a major need area right away.

Those were two great picks. As a Bears fan, really hoping they would get Johnson but Minny traded up to the spot before Chicago to nab him.

I loved the Colts picks in the 4th (Jacob Tamme) and 6th (Mike Hart). Tamme reminds me of Dallas Clark. He can get downfield with his speed (former WR, runs 4.58), and he has excellent hands. Mike Hart is a nice pick in the 6th round.

Man, I really wanted the Bills to grab him in the 5th but we passed.I really like that the Bills grabbed a CB in the 1st and waited to go WR in the 2nd. When i saw Kelly and Sweed there I thought we were golden and then we took the WR I wasn't expecting. But if the Bills think he's better for the team than the others then I will not complain.

Arizona - I like the Early Doucet pick. From the LSU games I've seen, he should come in and be better than Bryant Johnson ever was right away.

Lions - Favorite pick by far was Kevin Smith. Should've had our RB in the first round though.

Jets

I loved the Keller pick. Guy looks like a faster version of K.Winslow. He might not be able to block to save his life, but hes going to give that passing game a huge boost imo

Eagles - Mike McGlynn - I was hoping they would draft this guy in the 3rd and when they passed on him for the DE Smith I was rather disappointed. When I saw he was still there in the 4th and the Birds snagged him I was thrilled. I think this is one of those lineman that you will hear about for years because he can step in at any position on the line and fill in when needed. Very nice depth pick IMO.

CHARGERS

My favorite pick from today was getting Chris Chambers in the second round. My second favorite was using the third-round pick in a package for Eric Weddle. I also like the Antoine Cason and Jacob Hester picks, but there's a bit more uncertainty with them.

I loved getting McKelvin in round 1. I thought it was very unlikely that he would be there, since we needed for the Ravens, Saints and Pats to all pass on CBs. Good for us. I was rooting for Sweed in round 2, but Hardy is fine too. I'm glad we didn't take Kelly, but that's just me.

McGlynn for the EAGLES. He looks just like Runyan did in college. Me thinks he's our next RT.

Demps was a close 2nd.

Bengals

Pat Sims - I did a mock where i hoped we would take him with our 2nd round pick and we ended up getting him a round later. It's always a good feeling when you are yelling at the tv for your team to take a guy, and then they announce that same player for their selection.

I also like all 3 Wr's taken. Caldwell seems to have a very high upside if he can stay healthy.

This is one of my favorite drafts thus far under Lewis's regime.

Brian Brohm QB to the PACK - FUTURE of the FRANCHISE. BOOK IT.

Harry Douglas WR to the FALCONS - Don't sleep on HD. All the haters ranking WRs this year, had him much lower than he was drafted. Guess the Falcons saw the playmaker I did. He is DANGEROUS.

Mario Urutia WR to the BENGALS - HUGE physical specimen with tons of potential.

Gary Barnidge TE to the PANTHERS - Could be the missing playmaker at Tight End the Panthers needed. He made play after play for the Cards last season.

Other picks I liked:

MIKE HART RB to the COLTS - Great compliment to Addai.

JOHN DAVID BOOTY QB to the VIKES - Easily wins the starting job over Tavaris, just a matter of time.

JAMAAL CHARLES RB to the CHIEFS - A few years away from the starting job but from what I saw at UT, he can do it.

Owen Shmitts' pizzaz will make him an instant fan favorite as well as draw in all th eold schoolers with his hard nosed, smash mouth football. He's my 1B

1A is Lawrence Jackson. Many consider him a reach but he's tight with Lofa, started a LOT of college games where he excelled in a pro factory college system. I believe he was a captain but I can't find that story. I think he's a quality character guy who's a great football player who should fit in well with Lofa running the D and rotating to keep himself and Tapp/Kerney rested. Should be an immediate impact player and raise the iq and maturity of the D with his leadership skills.

But it's going to be fun watching Schmitt pancake a few LBs! Though hopefully they'll put contract language prohibiting him from smashing his own head into a bloody mess with his helmet.

And honestly I like all the picks more or less. Got an elite longsnapper and a cocky kicker who doesn't miss or get rattled, both basically free for dropping in the 1st round 3 slots and still gettin Jackson who was their choice all along. Plus a 300+ run stopper they've not had since the likes of Cortez the King or Sam Adams.

I'd say they're all my favorites, though I am concerned about WR, but Jackson and Schmitt are the two I look forward most to seeing them play.

Pat Sims in my book as well, however this was a C- or less draft AGAIN. The Carson draft is my favorite. Once again we let another team come up and grab our guy. YOU know that Pats contacted the Bengals and offered a trade up 2 spots and really the price would have been affordable and worth it to get Ellis. I'm not sold on Caldwell myself ,but because he has a name people will hang their hat on that. I say his brother is not that great and I can't see him being anything more than average.Simpson is a guy I don't even know about so I can't comment except he looked to be playing against High Schoolers. Rivers will be good and yet he's the 9th overall and he is expected to be good. Bengals Linebackers could be great if we could keep them out of the hospital or the pokey.Te??? Did Utech really sign with the Bengals??? Marv said the Bengals grade on Ellis and Rivers was close?????? "whatever" like I'm suppose eat that steaming bowl of Dog stuff.
If you like Pat Sims, how can you not like that we got him and Rivers instead of just Ellis?

We need some OL help to block for these guys. These running backs on paper were all very close, I like that the Lions went OL, then went and took a shot at a RB.Every year the lines should take defense or 0line first round until they make the playoffs. Then once they get their, keep doing it as you just realized what got you there.I'm more inclinced to think you can have an average NFL running back behind a good offensive line do better than a more talented RB behind a poor offensive line. And even if that wasn't true, it is only a matter of time before that RB gets beat up.

I don't know about a C-, it might feel that way because of the lack of big name players. However, they did draft the right positions, so here is to hoping they know more than we do. My only complaint, is like, you, why the TE? At that point we passed on DEs like Johnston and Robertson or LBs like Grant and Henderson (how do Robertson and Henderson go undrafted?). The only other issue I have is drafting Shirley. I like the 2nd DT, but he had some off-field issues that we don't need.

Steelers - not reaching for an OT in the first, unlike several of the teams.

Player wise I would put Mendenhall slightly over Sweed.

PACKERS: Brian Brohm :nerd:

This pick was brilliant in a couple of ways. I like Aaron Rodgers and I think if he stays healthy, he is the guy. But he's been dinged a lot. The Brohm pick gives the Packers a legitimate guy who can come in and take over the reins if Rodgers proves to be too injury prone to be a week in week out starter. Rodgers has shown some skill, and maybe the injuries have just been back luck, but the Packers were thin at QB and now they have two on the squad that could be "the guy" going forward. At a position that is the live or die position of a football team, you most certainly cannot have enough good players.

Secondly, but not taking Brohm in the first round, which I'd have been fine with BTW, they alleviate some of the pressure and bull#### about a QB controversy. All Rodgers has to do to keep the job is just keep doing what he's always done. As long as he plays his game and stays out of the trainers room, he'll be the QB. I highly doubt Brohm can just waltz in and take the job. And by waiting until the second round, and then not even selected him with their first pick in the round, the Packers have quashed some of the pressure on Brohm. He won't be expected to compete for a starting job unless Rodgers fails.

Dallas- Jenkins
I was hoping they would take him at pick 22.CB was our biggest need and I was hoping for one of the top 3 CBs, but did not see a single mock that had one fall to them.I still don't see Felix Jones over Mendenhall, but I guess only time will tell.at least they didn't go WR in the first round like most mocks were showing.

I did not want him in the 1st...but was very happy to get him in the 2nd. And agree on the reasoning of this pick.

Its a guy they can feel good about having and grooming while Rodgers is healthy...and not feel bad about turning it over to him if Rodgers ends up getting hurt too much or not being able to hack it.

As often as some QB prospects fizzle out...its not a bad thing to have 2 highly touted prospects on the team.

Eventually, you might have some great trade bait between the two.

As for my favorite. Pretty close between the Brohm and Lee pick. The more I read about Lee...the more I like the kid and think he is a perfect fit for how the Packers like their corners to play.

Unlike some...I did not have much of a problem with this draft...though questioned how early they took Nelson...and not sure we needed a QB and WR in the 7th...but the practice squad needs players too.

All good points, and I agree. It was just the selfish side of me speaking. I literally jumped out of my seat when they traded down, and he was STILL there at 17. Overall, I'm still pleased with the draft.
