Homers chime in with your favorite pick (1 Viewer)

JOHN DAVID BOOTY QB to the VIKES - Easily wins the starting job over Tavaris, just a matter of time.
This has to be one of, if not the best picks of the entire draft.Vikings QB situation stinks. Last year the Trojans had no wide receivers. Their best receiver by far was their TE, Fred Davis. Booty had mediocre stats, but when you don't have good wide receiver, what the hell are you going to do?In 2006 when Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarret were in the mix, Booty had a great season. If he opted to go out in 2006, he would have been a 1st or 2nd round pick at worst. He stays an extra year and drops to the 5th? A lot of teams are going to regret passing on Booty. He has decent size, a decent arm, is very accurate and is an accomplished quarterback. For the Vikings to be able to wait until the 5th round to grab him was a huge steal.

Titans - I'm just thankful there aren't more than 7 rounds, lest I set myself on fire and jump off a bridge.
Colin, I haven't been following the Titans all that closely...but did the GM / Draft staff get switched over sometime in the last 2 seasons. I remember the Titans always having really great drafts prior to the last 2 seasons. In which they've gone completely the way; i.e. just awful.

So Booty gets a pass because he didn't have weapons, but Jackson doesn't get the same benefit of the doubt? The Vikes weren't exactly trotting out Moss, Carter, and Reed last season. :lmao:

Not sure about the scouting staff, but the GM changed. Floyd Reese was fired 2 years ago, and we brought in Mike Reinfelt (former Seattle GM).

Booty still put up decent numbers in 2007, and was hurt a few games. His 2006 was better. I'm not pushing Tavaris Jackson out of the starters position already, but I do believe Booty projects to be a better NFL QB. My point was simply that he stayed in school an extra year and his stock sank much too much. USC's 2006 starting WR's are not all pros in the NFL (Dwayne Jarret and Steve Smith), but they are decent. Patrick Turner and Vidal Hazelton have hands of stone. I know the Vikings don't have the best receiving corps out there, but they are NFL caliber.

KC---I thought the first 4 picks were very solid

loved the Charles pick......don't know why, can't put my finger on it, but I am a little concerned about LJ's production going forward and I thought this was a great pick.......

Falcons - Curtis Lofton, LB. Sounds like a big time hitter to roam the midway, perhaps prolonging Brooking's career by allowing him to move to the outside.

I also like what I heard about Chevis Jackson and Kroy Beirman. Both sound like bona fide, nitty gritty, football players.

Holding my breath on the Ryan pick and I thought that the trade for Baker might have been a bit of a panic reaction to the OT run in the first. Overall, pleased, but a bit curious that we took zero D Lineman.

SEATTLE5th round: FB Owen Schmitt. Dude is a beast and perhaps mentally deranged from what I've seen in clips. Seattle needs his attitude on special teams and leading the way on run plays. He's going to be an instant fan favorite.
you will love him more the more you get to watch him on the field

Arizona - I like the Early Doucet pick. From the LSU games I've seen, he should come in and be better than Bryant Johnson ever was right away.
I dont get why eveyone is down on him. I think he is a great WR. Not much seperation from him to Bowe

Yup. Reese was canned and they brought in Reinfeldt.

BengalsPat Sims - I did a mock where i hoped we would take him with our 2nd round pick and we ended up getting him a round later. It's always a good feeling when you are yelling at the tv for your team to take a guy, and then they announce that same player for their selection. I also like all 3 Wr's taken. Caldwell seems to have a very high upside if he can stay healthy. This is one of my favorite drafts thus far under Lewis's regime.
I agree, not thrilled with the Shirley pick, but at least they addressed the position in a prior round with Sims. If Shirley screws up, he's cut - seems pretty clear I would think. The Collins pick probably was the best value, a versatile lineman - it also helps that I tabbed him right before that pick :) The Simpson picked seemed like a reach at the time, but the fact that they still got Sims with their next pick and backed it up with Caldwell :bye: at the end of the round balances it out for me. Plus we have a great track record with drafting WRs so I get the feeling Simpson will prove to be something special. All that said, my favorite pick was the Appalachian State dude who blocked Michigan's FG attempt, thus sending the hated Wolverines to an uber-embarrassing defeat :goodposting: -QG

Vikings:

Jaymar Johnson, WR

He was taken with the pick the Vikings got in the Williamson deal. Even if he doesn't make the team, the Vikings got better through the entire ordeal!!!

JetsI loved the Keller pick. Guy looks like a faster version of K.Winslow. He might not be able to block to save his life, but hes going to give that passing game a huge boost imo
This was a poor value pick IMO. They didn't even need to move up to pick him
you dont know that. Tannembaum said on Mike and Mike that they were worried other teams might be targeting him. Maybe hes right, maybe he isnt, but if the Jets were high on him then I respect that they were aggressive in getting him there. Ive seen draft analyst grade him out as a late 1st/early 2nd rd pick so as far as it being poor value, Ill disagree. Maybe not good value, but not bad either.

Dolphins:

Merling. Great value as he was originally projected as a top-15 prospect and the Dolphins' greatest need is, IMO, down linemen for the 3-4. When I say greatest need, I mean the position is hardest to fill in FA/easiest to fill through the draft/none currently exist on the team.

I'd say Jake Long, but the shine wore off that pick before the draft started - that one was a bigf "aaaah" for me as I have been begging for a 1st round pick on LT for years. And Carey does NOT count - he was projected as an LG coming out of college and worked best at RT. He is not a LT.

As a Saints fan, my favorite pick was Matt Ryan to the Falcons.

Gonna be clobbering ATL QBs for at least three more years.

Pretty easy...DeSean Jackson for my Eagles.I would've been OK with them taking him at 1.19 and they got him a full round later. The rest of our draft MAY be valuable in 2009 and beyond, but DJ was drafted to help a major need area right away.
Are you concerned that your team is presently in "win now" mode, but a rookie receiver is unlikely to make a significant contribution? This is my perception anyway. I see Philly as a team that could compete for a title if it weren't for the obvious hole at WR.

TITANS

Chris Johnson.

I really am scratching my head as to why this pick is so widely panned. The Titans wanted to add speed and playmakers. Check. The Titans wanted to improve the running game. Check. The Titans wanted a dynamic kick returner to replace Pacman. Check.

What's funny is all the guys bellyaching about how the Titans "failed to get Vince any help." Well, last time I checked, a speedy change of pace back that has the speed and skills to take screens to the house, or to line up in the slot, could probably help a young QB alot. If I am Vince Young I am a very happy camper after this draft. Upgraded the running game, added a solid WR, got a TE that can help in the running game and the passing game. What's not to like?

I really liked this draft. :lol:Go back and re-check your facts on the drafting genius of Floyd Reese. There was a three year run there that was just horrible and really contributed to the bloodletting and increased time getting out of cap hell. Reese thought he could draft young guys to re-stock the roster when they had to cut solid vets. He was wrong.

Giants getting the best safety in the draft falling to them at 32 was HUGE for them as it was a need position.
I almost listed this pick, but they just let the draft come to them like a hanging curve and didn't miss an easy one. Nice fit and I think the criticism of Phillips will be proven wrong.

Hope you clobber him like Vick (5-2 vs 'Aints)
Well it's a good thing we'll never have to see Vick in a Falcons uniform again, right?Meanwhile, in the last four meetings between the two teams, the Saints have outscored the FALLcons 110-46. And yes, that's a 4-0 record.

ATL QBs = Target practice for our young studs.

I'm torn. The potential value of Manningham really has me thinking. it could be a Clarett to the Broncos deal where he gets cut in camp if his act isn't together, but he's a first round talent at the back of the third, and I'll roll my dice with him. I think its a good fit organizationally, good leadership, championship currency and success turning around Ahmad Bradshaw. With Amani good for one more year, it could be a nice passing of the Michigan torch.
