GB, It's not bacon. But if bacon was an apple, it would be a Honeycrisp.I finally had one of these. I really don't see the big deal.
There's just no response to this. None.GB,It's not bacon. But if bacon was an apple, it would be a Honeycrisp.I finally had one of these. I really don't see the big deal.
Still no report on the SweeTango? Come on FBG's, you're really letting me down. I was sure a MSP-based FBG could get their hands on one.Just saw them at Target yesterday for $2.49/lb. How much do the rest of you pay? They usually lower the price a little later in the season, I think they may have been on sale last year for .99/lb.Two down, three to go before I have to re-stock.Has anyone found or tried the SweeTango apple? The HoneyCrisp successor? I would be interested in hearing how it compares.

WAIT.Are you referring to the Honey Crisp or the SweeTango?I'm as confused as Wolf Blitzer trying to figure out how the boy went from the balloon to the box in the attic.it was good. sweet and crisp. had a good snap when you bit in to it.i wasn't really in the mood for an apple but my mom practically forced the thing on me... wound up finishing it. highly recommended.
I finally had one of these. I really don't see the big deal.

They're about the same as a gala, braeburn, etc. I don't really get it either.Aaron Rudnicki said:I don't get the love for these things in this thread. Much better apples out there.
Like anything, of course it's subjective and based on individual taste. I just think that more people favor the taste that Honey Crisp has than those that like the others. I also think that Honey Crisp apples store much better than Gala, Braburn et al. This past winter/spring I had some pretty mealy and dry apples whereas the Honey Crisp tasted like the day I bought them.If I had a choice between season fresh Braeburn, Gala, Fuji, etc., I probably would still favor the Honey Crisp. They're about the same as a gala, braeburn, etc. I don't really get it either.Aaron Rudnicki said:I don't get the love for these things in this thread. I broke down and bought a few last week. Meh. I'll take a fuji every time.No they aren't.There is something special about these. Better combination of sweet and tart, extra juicy and the crispest apple ever. You guys either don't really like apples or your getting bad batches. They're about the same as a gala, braeburn, etc. I don't really get it either.Aaron Rudnicki said:I don't get the love for these things in this thread. Plus you get an added bonus that in 2005, the last year results were available, the U.S. Department of Agriculture found pesticide residues on 98 percent of the apples it tested.I finally had one of these. I really don't see the big deal.![]()

Start a peaches thread, guy...this is about apples.I'm too busy enjoying this year's peaches to worry about the Honeycrisps yet.
Don't they grow stuff locally down there? I buy as much as I can from the orchard just up the road from us. Peaches right now, Honeycrisps next month.I'm pissed off that I can't get Georgia peaches in Florida. I moved down here 6 months ago from Atlanta and saw them in stores for a week, that's it. Now the only peaches I can get are from California and they are clearly less desirable. Plus, the oranges in the stores are from South Africa. WTF? I live in Florida now and the oranges are from SA? Seriously?
MOP, can I get some local knowledge of the fruit scene down here?![]()
I'm seriously doubting that I'm going to be finding Honeycrisp apples come September.![]()
Signed,
Florida - the only place you have to go north to get the the South
Well that's what you would think now, huh? It's not like I am living in Phoenix and expecting locally grown oranges, it's Florida for goodness sake. This place invented oranges! There's a great organic farmers market on Saturdays that has great locally grown stuff but man, it's even MORE expensive than what I find at Whole Paycheck. I can drive 25-30 minutes out of the city and probably find a local produce stand with locally grown stuff but I was thinking that Publix would source some of that locally considering the location. Who knows, maybe I'm not looking at the right places. Dunno yet.Don't they grow stuff locally down there? I buy as much as I can from the orchard just up the road from us. Hi Senor,Pretty sure MOP, like the rest of the FBG staff, is pretty busy right now with the season kicking off. Hopefully he'll get a chance to pop in soon though and drop some produce knowledge.I'm pissed off that I can't get Georgia peaches in Florida.
