Honeycrisp Apples (1 Viewer)

I purchased some caramels and Honeycrisps for caramel apples. I've eaten the apples and still have the caramels.

To put this into perspective, that's like me leaving the beer and eating the pretzels.

In case you missed the earlier post, they are very crisp and sweet, like honey. So of course there would be no need for caramels.

The problem is that their growing season is so short. In a couple more weeks you won't be able to find them.Honeycrisp has definitely made it to the top of my apple list, but I still enjoy Cripps Pink (or Pink Lady) and Braeburn apples. Jonagolds are pretty good too.

They're here! Whoo-hoo!

To those of you who are claiming there other apples out there just as good, I have to question your judgment a little bit. I don't even like apples that much and these things are like crack to me. I plowed through my first one while I was putting away the groceries and it was like a crisp little piece of candy. They're amazing.

Picked up some of these from the orchard based on this thread. They are great apples, probably my favourite now - but I dont get the sweet part. Dont taste sweet at all to me?

Were you eating anything with it, or drinking anything that would alter the taste?Each day I bring 2 or 3 to the office and have one as soon as I get in for breakfast. I've noticed that the first one can have a 'strange' flavor. I suspect this is do to mouthwash or rinse that I've used after brushing. Sort of like drinking OJ immediately after brushing your teeth.Anyway, the second and third of the day are almost always fantastic.

Our orchard is out of them. They have around 500 Honeycrisp trees.

I've been getting them at my grocery stores. They are almost 3 bucks a lb. I've been stocking up cause I have heard that they will keep for months in the fridge.

I'm not sure what they are per pound. They were $9 for half a peck (about 9 large apples) and $16 for a full peck. Seems cheaper than $3/lb.And yeah, the honeycrisp website says they will keep for at least 6 months in the fridge.

OK, now I get this. I just had a HoneyCrisp from the batch I purchased yesterday that was only exceptional, not "Pretty sure this was the fruit from the Garden of Eden that tempted Eve" good. It was a little softer and the skin was a little tougher than most HoneyCrisps I've had previously. I am now willing to accept that there may be outliers in the HoneyCrisp universe that may lead you to believe they're just the best apple out there and not the greatest fruit every consumed by man. What a disappointing day.

Seriously :) This is the third time I've tried them and each time it's been: :moneybag: I will no longer be drawn into this ugly web of overpriced deception you call Honeycrisp apples......I'm sticking with Braeburn and Pink Lady...........

Braeburn and Pink Lady apples are my other favorites also. But seriously, if you haven't liked Honeycrisps you must be getting some bad apples.
 
We need a way that some of us that don't get good Honeycrisp apples can get them. Any FBGers willing to ship some out?

Funny, I just got back from picking up a peck of peaches at the orchard. The farmer passed through and a lady asked when the honeycrisps were going to be ready. He shook his head and said "another week, I hope" as if he had been asked a hundred times already this week.

I like to wait until much later in the season to get mine. Too much other fresh fruit out right now.

Ill get a bushel in late October, fill both crisper drawers in the basement fridge, and eat them all winter long.

Picked up a small bag (5lb) today.At first I wasn't sure they had any. I looked around and didn't see anything. I asked someone at the counter. She quickly looked at another person who was working. This person looked at me for a moment then nodded to women I originally spoke with. She then slipped out a door only to return a few minutes later with the Honeycrisps.I wanted to laugh at the secrecy, but I wanted to keep the Honeycrisps even more. So I smiled, paid for the apples and headed home.Mission accomplished.Medium size, VERY crispy, sweet. 2.39/lb.

Adrian Orchards - IndianapolisA side note, their fresh unpasteurized apple cider becomes a thing of beauty after about a month in the frig.
 
Got my first batch earlier this week. The first one I had was actually a bit disappointing. It was kind of mushy. But every one since has been spectacular. Just finished one. :thumbup:

 
Just saw them at Target yesterday for $2.49/lb. How much do the rest of you pay? They usually lower the price a little later in the season, I think they may have been on sale last year for .99/lb.

Two down, three to go before I have to re-stock.

Has anyone found or tried the SweeTango apple? The HoneyCrisp successor? I would be interested in hearing how it compares.

Kroger has the honeycrisps at $1.99/lb. this week around here. On the plus side, Michigan is expecting an excellent apple crop this year.
