Since you seem to be the resident dessert expert where would you slot dessert bars?  Some are garbage but a scotcheroo or a good lemon bar can holds it's own amongst other top tier desserts.   

Lemon Bars should be in with Brownies IMO and should be higher up the list.

A good cake doesn't really need frosting. Frosting will just take it to another level but not necessary.

As far as the whole cake thing goes, I once had the moistest and best tasting chocolate cake that only had the lightest glaze of glazed frosting.  Almost like a sealant.  Too bad they all are not that good.

I have no problem with the title of this thread although the red velvet cheese cake thing that was trend for a while is ridiculously good as well.  Also, Susie Cakes has one called the "birthday celebration" is one of the best cakes I"ve ever had as well.

Is Susie Cakes a national chain?

My love of other desserts, pies, Schaum torte, seven layer bars does not, in any way, negate the point that there is a king of cakes, and that king is German Chocolate.  Those of you who are advocating Red Velvet, well I am certain it probably goes well as a compliment to your viewing of men's synchronized swimming as your preferred sports viewing.

Wr should probably also let those Red Velvet people know that Elvis is dead, the Loch Ness monster is a myth and Star Wars is not a documentary.

If I’m in the right frame of mind I do love a good carrot cake.  But the ratio of good carrot cakes to horrible carrot cakes that make me want to Ralph is not good.
