That was so confusing because it seemed like Daemon’s guys ran in (dark red and brown/black chest plate), but all that hub bub was just Sir Whatever killing the gay lover? Seemed like it was more than that. I think I get that he was going to kill himself but first killed the guys who knew about the affair.Hey, lets dance!
Thought it was because it was an arranged marriage that he obviously wasn't on board with. Could be wrong as I tune some of that noise out. What was Daemon's beef with his wife? She was a babe and I was hoping that we'd get to see a lot more of her heh heh.
Read three seasons maxNot sure how many seasons they get out of this. Two or Three?
Unless they decide to just make the show the entire history of the Targs from this point up to Robert's Rebellion. Which would be cool.

I will say that Alicent learning the secret was silly. Hey, let’s just have her dawdle around the question and have him blurt it out even though he wanted to go away with Rhaenyra. Why would he spill the beans that easy? Just felt like they needed Alicent to learn the secret and did it in a hokey way.
Me too, it was just so bad because you knew she’s dance around it and he’d blurt it out. It was like the horror movie where they decide to go in the basement. It had to happen but the way it did made me cringe.Read three seasons max
They seem to be working fairly quickly at the pre-dance backstory.
For instance, and something I'm not sure of.
There was supposed to be a 10 tourney before the wedding. But it looked liked they got married post fight in a private ceremony,
Was that because of the fight? I seems they could have made an extra episode out of those 10 days. Instead we get a 10 year leap,
I'm not complaining, it just seems odd, and reminds me of when Martin said GOT had enough material for at least three more seasons.

Guilty conscience, I think, I was yelling at the TV. No you fool. She's asking about uncle Daemon, and you just ratted yourself out.
I thought it was Daemon's guys too running in and that he was orchestrating it. Should be fun, but even as a non-book reader, it’s damn obvious where it’s going. The teaser for next Sunday was a little much but I guess it helps explain the next time jump where it seems like nothing has changed except everyone is older.

Seems like the King makes a swift recovery based on the time jump. You see him and even if a trick, I can’t imagine they brush it under the rug.

Maybe not from a looks standpoint, but it she was experienced in hunting and probably a decent fighter. They could have been a power-couple if Daemon wasn't such a butthole. What was Daemon's beef with his wife? She was a babe and I was hoping that we'd get to see a lot more of her heh heh.
I don't know who the Royce's are......but to be fair to Daemon; she didn't seem like she was Targaryan material. ANY Targaryan should probably be worthy of upper tier Babe/Stud.
I think the implication is that Daemon had performance difficulties on the wedding night (which they've shown happening to him with others) so the marriage wasn't consummated that night. And he blamed Rhea and shunned her afterward so that it was never consummated. What was Daemon's beef with his wife? She was a babe and I was hoping that we'd get to see a lot more of her heh heh.
Yep, I mentioned that after the cousin love scene since it happened before with his hoe. With the hoe you didn’t know for sure because it could have been his passing over that vexed him. After cousin non finish it was clear.I think the implication is that Daemon had performance difficulties on the wedding night (which they've shown happening to him with others) so the marriage wasn't consummated that night. And he blamed Rhea and shunned her afterward so that it was never consummated. What was Daemon's beef with his wife? She was a babe and I was hoping that we'd get to see a lot more of her heh heh.
EDIT: Hence Rhea's parting shot, "should have known you couldn't finish ..."
I think he was just getting her out of the melee to keep her safe.I'm all sorts of confused about the fight.
Was the new kings hand scheming something? He nods and random guy grabs princess and takes her away, only to be back at the wedding
This is a good point, which explains the marriage directly after the Clash in the Castle, get her married off before she either 1. gets killed or 2. runs off with her uncle.I think he was just getting her out of the melee to keep her safe.I'm all sorts of confused about the fight.

That, or possibly the king was worried that she would run off with Daemon during the chaos and wanted to make sure she stuck around to get married.
It was and it was too chaotic if it was literally a fight between two people. I mean it went immediately to a stampede that pushed the princess all the way to the main table. I think they tried to make it look crazy for TV but in reality it probably shouldn’t have been. My thought is that they did that so that a bigger fight between the King’s Guard and Laenor’s folks. We needed the marriage to happen so easier to have one guy dead in the craziness.I thought the whole wedding thing was chaotic and hard to follow.
I didn't take it to be him sewing dissent, more like him trying to be someone she can trust for information. What I didn't understand is why the son of the new Hand of the King was sewing dissent between Alicent and Rhaenyra. What could he hope to gain from this?
Didn’t he inherit land that was hers as well?I think the implication is that Daemon had performance difficulties on the wedding night (which they've shown happening to him with others) so the marriage wasn't consummated that night. He asked about it but it didn't seem to be well received by whoever he asked (I forget the dudes name).Didn’t he inherit land that was hers as well?I think the implication is that Daemon had performance difficulties on the wedding night (which they've shown happening to him with others) so the marriage wasn't consummated that night. It really wasn’t even a brawl. No one was actually fighting aside from him beating the lover down. That’s it, which is why it just seemed strange. I think they did that so he could kill him without them having to explain why Laenor and his crew did nothing.Episode was poorly done.
1. Ser Criston just blurts out his guilt
2. City Watch rushes into the dining hall for no real reason.
3. Criston beats a man to death, the future King consults best friend no less, and just walks on out afterwards.
4. Nobody tries to stop said beating but instead use it as an excuse to start a full on brawl
I remember it not as not being received well but that the guy accusing him realized that Daemon is his “boss” now. Daemon wasn’t really asking him as much as reminding him that he runs it all. I don’t recall the names of the places but I think the accuser guy leads a secondary house or whatever that falls underneath Daemon’s dead wife.He asked about it but it didn't seem to be well received by whoever he asked (I forget the dudes name).Didn’t he inherit land that was hers as well?I think the implication is that Daemon had performance difficulties on the wedding night (which they've shown happening to him with others) so the marriage wasn't consummated that night. He's a Royce, related to Daemon's wife. The Royces are still around in Game of Thrones taking care of the Vale for the Arryns.I remember it not as not being received well but that the guy accusing him realized that Daemon is his “boss” now. Because I'm anal about this stuff, below is a recap of the events because I know you all want to know. Mallory Rubin?I dont (please dont spoil if this is a book thing).Pretty sure we're still being spoon-fed backstory filler. We kinda know where the story is going and they have at least two seasons to tell it. The speed of the show will be adjusted by how many seasons they want to drag it out.
I would think most non-book readers are in the same boat - no way to tell where its going from here. We know Martin loves to lead his readers down a path of expectations then pull the rug out - although I guess the source material for this one is less of a story and more of a "historical account" or somesuch.
Regarding episode 4, I listened to a podcast and the non-book reader was shocked, stunned, disgusted and confused by the uncle / niece scene, whereas it was essentially SOP for the person with the lore background. She said it didn't make her list of top 5 moments in the episode. I was kind of the same - we know the Targ culture and history, we've seen it before and we've seen the chemistry between these two. They pretty much telegraphed it in the prior episodes and in the scenes leading up to it, so really NBD for me as a non-book viewer.

No doubt he's great, but he's still in the middle of the love/hate spectrum which leaves many of us feeling ho-hum. Imagine how intense the scene where he's approached by his wife's cousin would be if you truly hated him like we did King Joffrey or loved him like Tyrion.??? Matt Smith as Daemon is amazing
I actually like that there are no clear good guys or bad guys. I pay more attention trying to decide what a character's deal is. Tyrion was entertaining but characters like Jamie and the Hound were more interesting because they leaned good and bad at various times. No doubt he's great, but he's still in the middle of the love/hate spectrum which leaves many of us feeling ho-hum. I think they used the commotion to obfuscate what was happening. Based on the scene just before the fight, we're led to believe it's something related to Daemon and Rhaenyra. Then once the smoke clears we see it was Ser Criston. It really wasn’t even a brawl. No one was actually fighting aside from him beating the lover down. That’s it, which is why it just seemed strange. That's fine for some characters, but not all of them. We have to be emotionally drawn to characters, good and bad, and so far HotD is not executing on that for some of us.I actually like that there are no clear good guys or bad guys. Me too. I am enjoying the show too. Its not peak GoT but its still pretty good. Much better than that LotR show.I'm enjoying the show, but not this thread. This thread makes me not enjoy the show because many pick it apart too much. I need to learn to stay out of this thread.

I agreed with you after 2 episodes. But I am starting to lean to LotR's after last nights show.Me too. I am enjoying the show too. Its not peak GoT but its still pretty good. Completely agree. In GoT's it hurt when those characters died, and we cheered when the evil characters got theirs. At this point in HotD, I could care less who lives or dies. That's fine for some characters, but not all of them. We have to be emotionally drawn to characters, good and bad, and so far HotD is not executing on that for some of us.
As I mentioned before, I'm rewatching GoT at the same time and within the first few episodes they established characters that you either love (Ned, Tyrion, King Robert) or hate (the Lanisters not named Tyrion). It makes the interactions much more compelling.
I didnt watch the latest episode of LoTR but dont they come out on Fridays? Last week's episode put me to sleep.I agreed with you after 2 episodes.
