House of the dragon. Game on! (3 Viewers)

So three petty criminals, who can't even speak with each other on their mission, manage to infiltrate a castle, lock the lord and his son in their rooms, and burn it down.

Is that what I watched?
I’m honestly still trying to figure out the door thing. Does the dad sleep in his son’s closet? Seemed like no windows or hallways to be found and certainly no guards.

I keep trying to enjoy this show and it’s got some moments but damn is it slow.

Reminds of that AMC show The Terror: great actors, intriguing plot line, great sets- but when you actually watch most episodes, nothing happens.

This part isn't really a stretch since the other son would have told them how to do so IMO.

Agreed. I just didn’t couldn’t figure out the door situation. If the son is in the hall why is he just burning alive and not going elsewhere. He went to his dad’s room so unless they literally are in a back corner with no windows, just an odd setup.

Does anyone really care who wins and who dies? It's like watching

The Terror was better than this (so far) IMO, though I get where you're coming from. Just felt like The Terror had a fairly clear plotline and I liked some of the characters (and hated 1 other), so I was way more emotionally invested. HOD could turn it around but hopefully they'll hurry.

Don't know what the shows endgame is here, but if it's to cover 200 years no reason to invest much into any character in the first season.

It isn't going that far. Just a few years from this point on I think.

This is all basically the prologue still

So the King and Queen have 3 children who are all blonde but the Princess and her lover have 3 children and not one is blonde?
Well, yeah, but that's a pretty important plot point. It's obvious to everyone that the princess has been riding somebody else's dragon, if you get what I mean.

Also, as another poster noted, I don't know how the hell we're supposed to keep any of these characters straight without visual aids.

Didn't they basically use the same plot point in GOT 1st season when Ned Stark was investigating the Baratheons all had dark hair and yet King Robert's kids were all blond?

I'm actually looking forward to when the king dies and the mayhem ensues. I may not care who lives or dies, but I love good fight scenes.

I have really enjoyed the series so far. I understand the need for time jumps and how the new actors were necessary. We are seeing a divided house now which will lead to drama when the king passes. Lars killing his own dad and brother was wild.
This. I don't know what show others are watching but I'm entertained. There's alot of setup for sure but not in a bad way. It was never going to be GOT level especially because we are introduced to all new characters. I'm sure the Snow GOT sequel will probably be better received with a callback to old characters. I like the callback stuff here too, like seeing how Harenhall was destroyed. I'm sure there are a lot of things mentioned in GOT which are spoilers for this one but luckily my memory isn't that sharp.

And they were led by a guy who is a dead ringer for Pete Buttigieg.

The one thing that I really thought they could have done better last night was to spend a bit more time on the birth scenes and maybe add a bit more audio to it. Then it would have been perfect.
I turned it on super late. Both of my daughters had friends over and I couldnt find the TV remote to adjust the volume. The entire house could hear the wailing.

Not that unbelievable given that Larys sent them there. He probably gave them all the details on what passages to take and he probably bought some help from the inside too. It is his family's home after all.

is a lot of setup when it’s terribly obvious what we’ve been building up towards.
I'm probably in the minority, but I really have no idea where this is going. Occasionally I'll hear some recognizable names from GoT, but for the most part it's a completely isolated story for me. I don't know if that makes the lack of substantial story development better or worse.

It's not a horrible show; it's just not compelling. I don't find myself rooting for or against anyone and am emotionless to anything that happens.

I’ll bet you have some idea that a battle between Alicent and friends and Rhaenyra and friends is coming. Once the king dies, it’ll hit high gear. That’s all I am saying. They are clearly building up to that eventuality. Killing Rhaenyra’s baby daddy isn’t something they can come back from.

Can we get an episode without graphic child birth? TIA
😂 I won’t spoil anything even though I honestly couldn’t follow who did what to whom, but Alicent’s wiki page made it seem like we will be having birthing battles to see how many kids they can pop out. Like a dance off where they have to birth every contestant. I was legitimately confused by the Wiki page. So many similar names.

This is kinda feels like Rogue One only not as good. Spin off that lends to the larger plot of the story but no characters have a direct correlation to the folks we most know & love (GOT cast).

I really liked Rogue One. Thought it was really well done even though we knew what would happen after the hand off.

Best Star Wars movie released in my lifetime and I don't think it's particularly close.

I'm really enjoying this. Watched the latest episode last night and thought it was great - although we seem to get a few headscratching plot moments every episode, the story is really coming into form. Reading some comments here, I think maybe it's helped me to have read some of the story before so I kind of knew the main players and the general direction. I've never cared about knowing spoilers in advance of watching a movie or TV show and I think maybe that has helped with this one. My main resource has been reading about characters, places, events from time to time on the "A Wiki of Ice and Fire" website.

Agreed - I would encourage everyone to peruse that Wiki, I’ve found it much more enjoyable knowing the general direction. Not enough to actually read Fire & Blood though.

I think he's saying the blond Princess and dark haired knight made zero blond kids but the blond king and dark haired Queen made all blond kids.

And did they really have to name the baby Joffrey?
There’s been a lot of that. I imagine it’s build lineage similar to how there are a hundred King Henrys and Louies.

The little brat Joffrey was likely named after this one and I wouldn’t be shocked to hear that Cersei Lannister probably said as much during the show or in the objects that do not exist in this thread.

So I did some googling and apparently there was a 6 year time jump between episodes 4 and 5 so Aegon would've been around 6 in episode 5. I had no clue.

Where it's going is the same place GOT season 1 went once Robert Baratheon died.

I do agree that I'm having a hard time rooting for anyone. When someone dies, I don't care.

Daemon is the only one for me and just because he’s the only one on the show with any kind of charisma.

A few NRJ thought bubbles:

I figure this was the last setup episode. We had the initial set up, now the 2 time jumps and I think the rest of the story builds on the back story we have created up till now.

Hated to see Laena go as she seemed like an interesting character, but if you gotta go out, she went out like a boss. Dracaryside! I guess that sticks to GoT mantra that nobody is safe, like them or not.

A few mentioned the bug. I *think* that may be one of the sigils on the little rotating/unlocking thingies they show in the opening credits montage. Will have to rewatch for it again.

I noticed the King seemed to be missing most of his left arm. Death is nigh.

II wonder if the focus on the rats is a foreshadowing of some sort.

Obviously Rhaenyra and Daemon are both newly single, so I expect increased drama posthaste.
