House of the dragon. Game on! (1 Viewer)

No posts in here after the premier kinda sums up how badly those 2 idiots destroyed this franchise. Its honestly kinda funny how almost nobody wants to get invested.
The Reddit thread has tens of thousands of posts. More of an indictment on the activity on this board. This is the most popular show that could debut on tv this year, blaming B&B for anything around it is just bitterness.

Really? The end of Thrones 100% plays a role in my lack of anticipation here. I will eventually watch, but I don’t have any motivation to make it must see.

And I re-watched seasons 1-4 probably 3x and season 5 twice. But I never rewatched anything after that. To say they didn’t fumble a franchise is disingenuous.

Looking forward to Dunk and Egg, but that will be an anthology too.
First 4 seasons were majestic.

It stumbled in the last two seasons but still highly watchable for me again.

House of the Dragon is deliciously dark.

Love it.

It probably would have been a better ending if they made the last episode "The Long Night" but had Cersi bring her army to assist and just have her get killed during the battle. Then you have the burial scenes where you honor all the fallen characters that you followed. Then Jon goes to the North with the Wildlings, the Starks are in Winterfell under their own rule, and Daenerys is in Kings Landing ruling the rest of Westeros.

Not for me. This is a Disney ending, not GRRM. Danny was always going to break bad in this story.

I didn't love the last two/three GOT seasons and haven't re-watched, but it was still great television with great individual scenes and segments through to the end. The new series is a clean slate for me anyway and I love it. The season 2 first episode is fantastic. I do agree the Blood/Cheese incident lacked the full punch it had in the book, but I think that's largely because they've had no time to develop Helaena Targ as a character much less a mother, nor either of her kids.

In regards to GoT Final Season -

The Hound gets the death he deserves. His ending doesn't break character. We've been seeing that matchup since S1.

Jamie gets the death he wants; in the arms of his loved one. He tried the straight and narrow by going North, helping and banging Brienne....but in the end, he couldn't let go of that YayYo that is Cersei. Yeah...it was very dumb for Euron to wash up right next to Jamie.

Cersei is the same as Jamie...although a more gruesome death would have been better fan service.

They've been saying since S2, since he met the Wildlings that Jon's heart is True North. His best time in his life was in the North. HIm going to the North was right in line with the character. They screwed up the finale though. They probably should have had Arya snipe Grey Worm as Grey Worm really seemed to be the only person left in Dany's gang that would break ranks against the idea that was set forth in S1 and reinforced when Dany burnt all the leaders of the Dothraki: namely that the Dothraki favour the strongest as a leader and will basically do what they say. That whole thing at the end was clumsily done.

Dany was ALWAYS on the edge of breaking bad. When a Targaryan is born; the gods flip a coin.

Arya has always been a restless spirit. She got a good ending.

Sam...I think he got the ending we all expected.

Sansa is a clumsy situation. I applaud their attempt to build the character up as one of the better players of the Game of Thrones; but the North getting independence was kind of dumb. I guess we can look at it the same way they look at Dorne; part of the Kingdom......but also not part of the Kingdom.

The whole final sequence of electing Bran was pretty campy. They tried to do a “this is where everyone’s story ends” ending and I’ll agree it didn’t work.

Drogon torching the Iron Throne would have been a perfectly satisfying ending.

I don’t think any of the real complaints were ever about the arcs. It was more about when the source material in the books ended and the show runners had to fill in the details of how things happened.

One minute the Dothrakis and Unsullied are wiped out and the next episode they are back again. One minute a scorpion on a sailing/moving boat is super accurate and can take a dragon down with one shot and the next minute a ton of anchored on solid wall scorpions are wiped out with minimal effort.

All the main characters make it through the long night and we get to see all the sexual tension and knighthoods taken care of with a pre-long night hanging by the hearth episode. That would be like having a Stark family dinner banter the night before the red wedding where the Starks are defeated but none of the Starks actually die at the red wedding. The difference between the story telling and details before and after the book material stopped was as wide as the Grand Canyon.

Bran’s whole storyline was pointless. Eight seasons of buildup amounting to a wet fart.
Except for the whole drawing the Night King out in the open so they could kill him part.
That part was dumb, too. A million zombies couldn't handle killing bran?
I guess they never said why the Night King had to specifically be the one to kill him or why it couldn't be just any of the wights or other walkers. Is that what you mean? Bran says he'll come for me because he wants to erase this world and I am its memory. That scene was iconic with Arya's dagger move being foreshadowed previously when she is training with Brienne.

Seems silly to nitpick it though. Either it's all dumb or it's not.

Regarding the armies being wiped out: Jon says the unsullied and dothraki were reduced by half. Seemed like they all got their flaming swords snuffed out with only a few of them able to retreat, but who's to say? It's difficult to believe any of them would have survived that siege regardless and I can see why viewers scoffed.

Anyway, I'm enjoying House of the Dragon so far too.

IIRC, I thought she said that she split her forces; with only half coming up North.

As far as the dragon goes; they make a point to show her deliberately coming out of the sun in that final battle against Euron...and then whe she gets into his perimeter and low....the scorpions can't angle down as easily. When her other dragon got killed; she was just floating around like a butterfly without a care in the world.

I get what you're saying though; the last couple of seasons felt rushed and at times; just thrown together.

I thought the episode was mostly boring and for the first time started to think if I should continue.
It was boring but the first two episodes were top notch so I’m not concerned at all.

Last week we said how the show misses levity like GOT had but it also is just focused on a singular storyline where thrones had 5-6 stories going on at all times, almost to the point of confusion. I wish they were able to give us more of Westeros instead of just being locked into the same few people each week.

ha...my comment was actually about episode 2. Now I'm not looking forward to the newest one.

Oh I think episode 2 was one of the best in the series lol. 3 was a snoozer for me.

Seems like they are saving up all the dragon action awesomeness for later episodes. I agree that the episode yesterday was a bore.

The Aemond and Aegert brothers look like they could front an emo band.
Problem with this series to me so far is we know that the CGI is expensive so the "cool" battles are usually towards the end of the season, but some better dialog/investment in the charaters would be nice.

Ok, so the Usurper king is a bit of a douche, the younger brother has mommy issues, and Mom and the knight are getting it on. Should I care?

On the other side, we have a Hesitant queen, a brooding oldest son, and Dr. Who who thinks he should be in charge, and older wise Female dragonrider that links them all together with a bunch of Dennis Rodman's on ships and Dragons.

There is really no "investment" into these people. Who should I be rooting for? In GOT at least we rooted for Dinklage, Jon Snow, the Kingslayer, and Arya Stark.

I don't really like or hate anyone here. Shouldn't I?

Feel like they are spending too much time on the Rhaenyra/Alicent characters. Obviously important to the story, but they are really slowing it down. They could be using time to build out other characters.

No doubt that the season feels like they are dragging out this build up to War, but the events seem likely to be only happening in the course of a few days or weeks and the King has only been dead for a little while. And although the setup of the conversation that the Queens had was bad, the conversation itself was written very well. The moment that Alicent realizes that the King meant THE Aegon, not Aegon, was a pretty good moment. Still enjoying it a lot.

I did like that they closed the circle on that one.

I don’t understand why she let Rhaenyra walk right out of there.

The ease with which we travel great distances and enter each other's castles is pushing believablity, even in a show with dragons.

i mean i think the true ruler raineera told alicent that yeah she could raise the alarm but that she would be dead i mean rhanerya was holding a knife take that to the bank brochachos

Probably so the show could continue.
Steven Seagal dying right at the beginning of Executive Decision ruined the film for me. Similarly to Samuel L. in Deep Blue Sea.
i disagree steven segal dying makes literally anything instantly better and we will all see that happen when he finally thankfully leaves this rock take that to the bank brohans

She walked off after talking and left Alicent there by herself.
