Houston RBs (1 Viewer)

Chris went to IR. I dont think Ahman Green can make it through a season so who is the guy to have. Chris Taylor or Steve Slaton? RBBC? I haven't seen Houston use too much of RBBC in the past. They have used many RB's but mostly because of injury or ineffectiveness. I saw taylor listed as 3rd on depth chart but Slaton seems to have more interest in the drafts.

Rudi is only a season from 3 straight years of 1300 yards.... I think he still has gas in the tank. But, I could be wrong.

I think he will sit out there till after week one as another thread pointed out. He will then be able to be picked up at a reduced price.

I've been waiting until after people over-draft Slaton and then I jump in and draft Taylor a few rounds later.

Taylor, not Slaton, started their week 3 preseason game and has looked just as good as Slaton has. I'm not saying he will definitely be the starter, but I see no reason to give Slaton the edge. Considering Taylor started the 3rd preseason game, if anything, I'd say the odds are slightly in his favor.

I don't necessarily disagree with your conclusion but the start means little. The reason could simply be that they have had Taylor stashed away for a while and wanted to see how he looked against the 1s. Starts and preseason are tough to gauge

Interesting note in the Houston Chronicle blog on Slaton. The beat writer seems to think Slaton will grab the starting role this year.

Alex Gibbs came out of retirement to toughen up the offense in general and running game in particular. The jury's still out, and it's a work in progress. I know many of you fans want Ahman Green dumped, but if he's healthy, he's still their best back, according to the coaches. That's a big IF, of course. At least now he'll have to stay healthy to earn the big bucks -- $200,000 for every game in which he's active starting with the home opener against Baltimore.

Chris Taylor and Steve Slaton are the backups. Both are going to improve. Slaton has exceeded expectations, according to the coaches. I predict at some point this season he'll be the starter. He weighs 203. Warrick Dunn played three years for Gibbs in Atlanta and rushed for more than 1,100 yards each season. Dunn weighs 187. Terrell Davis (205) and Clinton Portis (205) weighed about the same as Slaton when they were rookies. What the coaches like about Slaton, other than his speed and big-play ability, is the way he's improved as a blocker and isn't afraid to take on pass rushers. He doesn't absorb; he dishes.

IMO, Green will get the first crack at being the primary runner. I'd expect him to falter either through injury or general decline. Slaton was drafted specifically to be a 3rd down back, but he could earn more 1st and 2nd down carries if his turf toe allows.

Assuming Green gives way, then I'd expect Taylor to be the primary rusher between the tackles and at the goal line with Slaton mixing in every few series and getting the call on obvious passing downs.

My money is on Taylor to emerge as the one to have if/when Green goes down.
