Houston vs Jacksonville game thread (1 Viewer)

Will they be showing NFLRedZone previous week highlights to get fans into the stands? Keep the 2 free beers policy going?

Andre Johnson owners, unfortunately, must watch this. Can't imagine anyone else would subject themselves to this clash of the titans.
Ben Tate, MJD, QBs in two QB leagues.

HOU - RB Ben Tate misses practice

Houston Texans RB Ben Tate (ankle, ribs) did not participate in practice Monday, Dec. 2. The Texans did not practice Monday and this is an estimation.

It's a short week for the Texans. In Week 14 they play on Thursday night against the Jaguars. This is a game with huge ramifications for draft order in the top five.

..and possibly the DSTs. Likely not JAC at home but HOU is an option.

Houston DST not a terrible option, high floor - low ceiling. If I had to gamble I'd look elsewhere though. If you can live with ~ 10 pts and are considered the favorite, I'd roll with them.

I was thinking the opposite....the Jags D/ST at home maybe....probably not the visiting Texans.

What does that mean? Estimation of his availability???

Neither of these teams have anything left to lose. Both played pretty well, Texans especially for being against a front runner. The marquee matchup last night didn't live up to its billing as a great game (to non Seattle fans at least, I loved it as much as the SF beat down). I could easily see this being a pride game that's actually a better entertainment value overall than last night's. I know Watt won't accept defeat, should be fun to watch tonight.

was thinking the same thing.. it always seems to be like that.

the bills/falcons game and jags/browns were both pretty good watches compare to some other games

JAC has been awful at home this year. In my ffpc league they put up 12 @DEN, 20 @TEN, 12 @HOU and 14 @CLE last week. Home? They put up 1, 2 and 3 points vs. SFO, SDG and ARI respectively. Counting on this trend, JAC won me my match-up last week.

The game two weeks ago was likely a outlier and in the midst of it all HOU was still getting legitimate pressure on Henne; all that was missing were the turnovers. HOU is the play here, not JAC.

Has anyone seen a promo for this game on NFLN yet? I'm dying to see how they are polishing this turd.

"Gary Kubiak leads his talented, yet snakebitten team into Jacksonville to square off with gritty veteran Maurice Jones-Drew!"

:gang1:

I have seen it...it says something like "....the Texans look to get back on track in an AFC South showdown..."

But, I think they should use your quote instead.

In all seriousness - can't this game be 'flexed' by the NFL similar to the SNF games. No reason for this to be a primetime game.

How are you going to flex a Thursday game? Start it earlier in the day while people are at work?

Should have held back one of the London Games to flex for later in the season, so we can pawn off bad football overseas, when we're not looking.

My understanding of 'flex' is that the matchup for the time slot is flexible. The NFL originally had Green Bay and ATL scheduled for Sunday Night Football this week...but because they both basically suck - they 'flexed' the matchup for the Sunday Night time slot, and now we will see the Panthers and Saints.

I get that Thursday Night games need more notice for teams to prepare, but it seems like this game could have been played on Sunday at 1pm, and move a better game to this time slot.

Seriously, you really can't flex this game though. Every team gets one shot at Thursday Night Football. Scheduling can't force 2 teams to give up their alloted Thursday prime time game. The schedule makers don't do us any favors though, giving us crappy matchups consistently on Thursday Nights.

Again, how can you flex a Thursday game? 60,000 tickets sold, schedule crafted for all teams to have a Thursday game, team travel schedules, stadium reservations etc. Totally impossible and it's quite silly to not get that.
I would think they could flex this game the same way they flex the Sunday Night game. You would inform the Jaguars and Texans, probably with two weeks notice, that the December 5th game will be played on December 8th. No need to reprint tickets, the team travel schedules shouldn't be hard to change, I doubt that the Jags have another event planned for Sunday at 1pm.

If it can be done for Sunday Night it can be done for Thursday Night - not silly at all.

I keep hearing people say that every team gets a Thursday night game...I don't think I realized that.

Merely observing that the Sunday Night games are flexed based on the competitiveness of teams, and thought that same concept could be applied to Thursday games.

If they can flex into SNF, why can't they shrink out of TNF with this one? As in just don't play a TNF game..Push it to Sunday and let us not have a game this week.

Will probably be a one hour weather delay in it to cap it off.

ALl that said, I have a sneaky suspicion that Andre Johnson goes 11/142/1 in this one.

We should do better than that and just send Roger Goodell to London on a one way trip... But I guess that is another thread

Sorry dude - I was just making a comment.

Didn't mean to offend you.
In addition to not understanding the flex problems, you don't know your definitions.
I understand how the moniker "Mad" got attached to your name, Mr. Sweeney.
You mean when I picked it? Some Sherlock level work there.
You do understand that everything you read isn't meant to be interpreted literally, right?

Anyone rolling with MJD in this game? He has been amazingly consistent in PPR since week 6, sitting on my bench. Been thinking this may be the time to dust him off?

this could be a 54-48 OT game and the excitement will still pale in comparison to last night's game because it's the Jaguars vs. the Texans.

Unless my team's involved, I'd rather see a shootout than a blowout.

Seriously, someone please contact Elias Sports Bureau to determine if this is the worst prime time game ever played.
Football is football. This could end up being an entertaining game. I'm actually curious to see Jacksonville play. I think they are the only team I haven't seen play on tv this year.

You aren't missing much. Staggering lack of talent. When Henne is off, you have to shield your eyes. Tough to watch.

I'm looking forward to the game.

To find a worse prime-time matchup, you'd have to go all the way back to...week 6 this year with the 1-4 Vikings against the 0-6 Giants.

That wasn't the most unwatchable game this year, which would go to the Miami-Tampa Bay game.

Compared to you and me? Sure. Compared to the rest of the NFL? Not so much.

If the Jags blitz relentlessly like last time then theyll win
I know it felt that way with how the offense played... but actually the Jaguars didn't blitz much in the first game. Per ESPN, Jags had 5 or more pass rushers on only 8 out of 36 drop backs. I believe 22% is well below the league average.

You're dead to me.

I agree the "staggering lack of talent" is overkill. Jags have been playing much better lately. Haven't mailed it in like we all thought they would. I can't believe they get #### on more than the team they are facing who have lost 10 in a row.

I would say that there is a lot better overall player talent than there is coaching talent.

I notice you didn't say I was WRONG!

Come on Texans...this could be a franchise-changing loss. Number 11 in our quest for 14 in a row might be the toughest
It's one thing to have fan loyalty when your team is on the rocks, but it's messed up to be actively rooting for your team to tank. I probably joked about it myself in the Raider thread this preason. But never really meant it. I hope you aren't being sincere here.
