Looking at getting one for my son thru Amazon but way to many manufactures/sellers to decide.

Anyone have one of these and can shed some light on them. Want to make sure that I'm getting the newest generation and best quality. What tire size is recommended and any other suggestions are most appreciated.

Sounds like this is the hot new toy for Xmas. Seeing prices run for $300 to $600.

Does Segway make the best one? Also not sure why it called a hover board? No hovering going on.

From what I've read most come from same manufacturing plant in China, so paying more than $300 is tossing money out the window. Seems middle men get shipment from there and mark them up to what they want.

Problem is, seems there is little reliable information out there from what limited research I did. I ended getting one from a seller on amazon that had local inventory since I did not order with enough lead time for my kids birthday. I got the 6.5 wheel version. Only issue we've had is the lead on the charger broke off (likely due to kid abuse). Seller sent a free replacement.

Here is info on the one I got for son on Ebay. He's been inside and outside with it and has been able to go on low grow grass. One thing I noticed it's fast on a straight away. Battery life is good with about 3+ hrs of continue use. Construction is sturdy and not cheaply assembled. No need to spend more then $300 for one of these and we got this within 15 days direct from China Ebay seller.

There is also a 10in wheel version (more expensive) for more of off road.

If someone were to get caught riding a hoverboard in the street, highway, parking lot or even sidewalk, they could potentially face a fine of up to $200.

I saw that coming. We were in chicago this weekend. Walked a few miles with the kids. They complained bc my kids are pansies. I said to my wife, we could really use the handless segways we ordered right now** I refuse to call them hoverboards

I've been seeing them a lot lately in NYC. all ages.

I think they're cool- but I don't like that they're taking up a lot of realestate without being able to shimmy one way or the other, not leaving room for other people on the sidewalk.
