How about a trifecta to the Lions (1 Viewer)

Rumors/articles by beat writers is the Lions should pursue Pioli. If that is the case Pioli probably would look at Josh McDaniels as a HC possibility. Given the Lions situation at QB and McDaniels relationship and knowledge of Cassel the Lions would be wise to look into this. Lions could pull a coup and get all 3 this off season.

Teams have been going after Pioli for years now. He's stated that he's happy where he is.

McDaniels is not someone I'd want to coach my team; at least not at this point.

Cassel could be a possibility, however.

And they'll still suck!

Cassel would fit the Lions, but really is he much better than the crap they have now? Cassel isn't a difference maker, at least not in my mind.

I ask this not to take a shot at the Lions organization but really because I'm wondering...

What free agent could possibly want to play for the Lions?

They'd be better off with McNabb than Cassell, BTW. McNabb's cap number is about $10million next year and there's no way the Eagles keep him at that price.

really depends on the new coach and GM. Like Rod and Martz brought in all the old Bucs and Rams you could handle, so we'll see who's in charge.

I think you know pretty well which team is already being considered a lock for McNabb next year Andy, and even though the team plays in the NFC North, it is not the Lions. Looks pretty good on paper.

At McNabb's age, is he a good solution for them?

I'm not a huge fan of McNabb, but he would look better in purple than the guys currently playing. And he'd be obviously the top QB FA available and also be much more of a help than any rookie QB they could possibly draft.Who knows, maybe he can revive his career like Warren Moon did.

I would think it would signal to other potential free agents that the organization is at least trying to bring in better talent. He'd still be a marquee name that other guys would take notice of. And a McNabb to Calvin connection would benefit both guys. I think getting out of Philly would do a lot of good for McNabb and I also think he's a better leader than he's been allowed to be on that team.BTW - I still can't believe that Andy Reid wants to throw the ball 60 times a game yet refuses to bring in NFL level talent to his squad.

You missed that part. Basically no free agent worth his salt comes to Detroit. Unless some big $ are waved at them, but we only give big $ to guys that are already here and already suck. :coryredding:I would begin to have hope if Pioli comes here under the condition that Ford sells the team to somebody that cares about winning, and then fires every single current Lions employee.

How has Raiola played this year?
He's getting destroyed. Probably in large part because the guys on either side of him are a complete joke.
I'm thinking they should take any of the top 3 LT's with the first pick and then hope they can get Alex Mack with the second 1st rounder. Mack may be the best interior o-lineman in the country. Then with 2.1, take the best d-lineman or linebacker available.

The Lions need to use the majority of their first day picks on the defense. It is the worst I have ever seen and is almost completely devoid of talent. The only possible exception would be a left tackle.

A ball control offense helps a bad defense. Which is why I think they could and should take two first round o-linemen.I don't think the D-end crop is particularly good this year and other than B.J. Raji, I'm not enamored with the DTs either.

That may be true, but there is nothing that could help this defense. The offensive line has been below par, but it is not as big a problem as the defense. The defense is horrendous.
