How are Kevin Jones receiving skills? (1 Viewer)

I did not watch much of KJ in college. Does he have decent receiving skills? God knows he was not used in the passing game with Marriuci.

Do you think he has the skill set to prosper in Martz's offense that turned Faulk into fantasy gold in St Louis? Or do you see Bryson more involved in the passing aspect of the offense.

I am trying to guage Kevin Jones fantasy value for 2006, I know Martz is the anti run coach but again add in opps in the passing game and certainly a RB could put up decent #s in his system, both Faulk and SJax did. Not to mention Marinelli was quoted in his press conference he wants a ball control offense. Should be interesting.

Look forward to hearing feedback.

Eveyone will remember Martz as the rams head and offensive coach, and for good reason but before that we pried him away from Washington. In Washington he was the offensive coordinator the year we all started to hear about S. Davis. The great thing about Martz he plays the hand he's given. In Stl. he never had a straight ahead pounder until he had Jackson but Jackson also had great hands and he still had Faulk. Will Bryson get some catches, sure but I think Kevin Jones could have a very solid year under Martz this year. I'm not saying top 5 or even top ten but solid.

He hasnt shown much skills as a receiver. He certainly doesnt possess Faulk like receiving skills. Doesnt mean he wont be the man in Detroit. He's the best back there and Martz loves to get the ball to guys with speed. Martz does tend to throw the ball a lot especially when losing. So I imagine we will see as many bad fantasy games as good ones from Jones. Jones will likely be a 3 down back next year though.

IF Kevin Jones can stay healthy and IF Detroit gets can muster a passing offense occassionally, then KJ could be solid. They are partially there with Martz, but I really believe that they need a better QB and o-line play.

 Terry Robiskie was OC under Norv Turner. Martz was QB coach for Turner's Skins from 97-98 (coached Trent Green there, Green and Martz both go to Rams in 99). Stephen Davis did nothing significant while Martz was in D.C.

Kev. Jones biggest issues are his hands and his largest issue is his ability to block - he just cannot do it for some reason - though he looked much bigger this year than last.

No one's jobs are safe in Detroit...Marinelli will demand focus and discipline, while Martz won't hesitate to let Marinelli and Millen know who can, and can't fit into his offensive scheme.

For a guy many [myself included] projected greatness from last year, Kevin Jones is a HUGE question mark heading into 2006 for a lot of reasons.

Seems sort of weird that Detroit would let Martz dictate the personnel that remains/plays in Detroit considering his plan, as I understand it, is to run the offense for one year and then try for another head coaching gig next year. I still don't understand the Martz hiring since he and his offensive scheme won't even be around for more than one season. Then again it is the Lions we are talking about.

As far as Jones, I think he will be very inconsistent next year. The OL is way too inconsistent, he is injury prone, and he has issues with pass protection that necessitates using Bryson on 3rd downs. I am staying away unless he falls way low in my draft (unlikely since I live in Michigan and our league is full of homers who reach for Jones and Roy Williams very early).

Your right I must apologize. Looked at my years wrong.

:goodposting: Bryson does have better hands than Jones, but the biggest reason he plays passing downs is blitz pickup.
