The league year begins on Feb 29 actually, contracts always expire on Feb 28.Mushin was released by the Bears, and is not under contract with any team.A Free Agent like say, Antwan Odom, will be a Free Agent on Friday, but is currently still under contract with the Titans (the league year begins on March 1st, meaning until 11:59 PM on Feb 29th, the contract is still in effect).

A player can only renegoiate/resign with a team once in the football calendar year. I'm getting tired of explaining this, but here goes . . .A player can rework his deal once and only once in any given NFL season (which runs normally from 3/1 - 2/28). Moss reworked his deal in the trade from Oakland to NE . . . which means by rule he CANNOT do anything with his contract AT ALL until the new NFL season started (which this year due to leap year starts 2/29). That includes all new deals, extensions, changes to binuses, etc. So NE and Moss have to wait until 2/29, and given the firestorm the Pats are getting for not complying to the rules, they are in no position to do otherwise. Then how did Gage get resigned and the Patroits have to wait until Fri. to resign Randy Moss? Simply put...there is a difference between a contract that expires and a released player. I think it's a good question that many people I'm sure ask themselves, but were afraid to ask.Free Agency doesn't start til Friday...so how can he have already agreed to a deal with Carolina? Isn't that tampering?Just curious cause I don't understand all the rules when it comes to NFL free agency...
Stop doing it. Problem solved.I'm getting tired of explaining this, but here goes . . .Then how did Gage get resigned and the Patroits have to wait until Fri. to resign Randy Moss?
