How did this team not win the SB ? (1 Viewer)

Every year I lose in the playoffs. Every year I have 4-5 guys in the top 2-3 rounds of the next years draft. I seem to always have a guy or two lay an egg in the playoffs. Is it bad luck or poor coaching ? Here are a few of my guys from last years 12 team league.

sjax

adp

portis

braylon

santonio

roy williams

warner

steelers d

If you look at this team now, 4 guys have adp in rds 1 and 2. Every year it's the same crap.

I, for one, am thrilled that you shared this with us.

IMO, it's a clear case of horrible, horrible team management.

Please keep us updated with your team this coming season.

The playoffs are a crapshoot. The next team you win a title with could be terrible, and you'll wonder how it won. Just enjoy the game.
I hear ya. It's just the same crap every year. I am still enjoying it though. Frustrating, but fun. Watching my FFL on my laptop while watching the Rams on my big screen is one of lifes more enjoyable things. It rates right behind playing in my mens softball league and watching my 12 yr old daughter play soccer. It's pretty cool when you go places and people recognize your daughter. I am not one of those ###### yelling parents btw.

I'm guessing you went out in week 14. All your studs had either very ordinary or very poor games (for fantasy purposes, anyway) that week. That's why you went out. That's why they play the games.

I am just not sure what I could have done differently. This is why I think FFL is 75% luck and 25% skill.
I'm guessing if you had won, those numbers would be reversed :pics: That's the breaks in H2H leagues with a playoff. It's the same in the NFL - the team that has the best body of work seasonlong doesn't always win (see: NE, 2007).

Have you tried to isolate why you are losing? If you have access to last year's box scores go back through your league week by week. Look at all the games not just yours. You might find something useful. Like the winning team had better QB scores 70 percent of the time. Or better WR scoring 68 percent of the time. Or that teams with consistent scorers at TE fared better 90 percent of the time - I don't now look it over. Maybe you'll find something to try to change next year.

It's 50% luck. I "should" have won 3 championships in my dynasty league the past 5 years. How many did I win? You guessed it... zero.

Subpar qb, Holmes and Williams are all or nothing wr and underperforming defense. It's easy to see why you didn't win it all.

You think you got bad luck? Check out this starting lineup that netted me a division title and zero playoff wins:

QB - Tom Brady

RB - Adrian Peterson

RB - Brian Westbrook

WR - Randy Moss

WR - Reggie Wayne

TE - Kellen Winslow

D - Minnesota

I $h!t you not, that really is my team (it's in my sig). I have won my division for 4 straight years, and I have yet to win a single playoff game! In another H2H league 2 years ago, I was the 2nd highest scoring team and I missed the playoffs altogether. Dookie happens.

That's rough but I've been on the happy end of worse. The team I beat in the championship last year had:QB-BradyRB-LT2RB-JacksonFlex-GoreWR-MossWR-AJWR-CalvinTE-Gates

Holy hell!!!!!!!!!!

this was my BIL's starting line up in our dynasty league last year. he lost 1 game(to me but LT was on a bye) all year but lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

plamer- ended up the #9 FF QB in our league

LT- #1 RB

Westy- #2 RB

Moss= #1 WR

Wayne- #4 WR

Edwards- #2 WR

Welker- #11 WR

a sick line up

i'm really disappointed in the rest of you:lmao:
So this whole topic probably belongs in AC forum but I'll pipe in:I feel your pain! From my favorite league & only one I commish.... I had an 11-2 redraft/keeper (2 keeper) squad in 2007 that #### the bed in the playoffs. Actually if I had started Cutler & Scheffler (@TEX) over Romo/Shockey i'd have won my 1st playoff game hehe. Was my lowest score of the season that week too..QB RomoRB WestbrookRB Peterson (edge was my keeper!)WR OwensWR BoldinWR Galloway / Chambers (Reggie brown was my other keeper)D Minn / Ten (Thanks DTBC article it hit a home run last year woot)This year its just keep 1, so i get Peterson, and due to the way our draft is set up (1st round by merit/finish, snakes by pairs after that), i'll prob end up with a core team of:RB PetersonRB Jones-DrewWR PlexicoWR T Holt (or Boldin)RB Thomas Jones (or Lendale)QB Cutler / Garrard (would hate to take Garrard if i have jones-drew, starting QB & RB on same team)Or depending on how the 1st round plays out I may opt to go:RB PetersonWR T OwensRB Jacobs (or Reggie Bush)WR Holt/BoldinRB3WR3/QBPersonally, I enjoy each and every week of the fantasy season, and of course all of the prep leading up to the draft. We all want to win the title but only 1 team gets that honor, 9 or 11 other teams just have to settle for not being the champ. If you aren't already, definitely recommend subscribing to the FBG website, all of the premium articles, dominator software tools, and in-season content is a steal for the price Dodds & co. charge. At the very least you consistently build playoff caliber FF teams just by soaking in all the FF knowledge from the premium content.

I'm a firm believer in this philosophy. So many owners really think they can control their team in an effort to feel like a real owner. Let's face it folks, we are just plugging in names and hoping they perform. We don't decide if Mike Sellers is going to get the carry on a 2nd and 4 on the 3 yard line. It is all up to the OC, and we all hope that portis is carrying that ball. Sure you can play the best match-ups and play the odds. It is no different then poker. You put yourself in the best situation to win and let the chips fall where they may. Ofcourse, not complaining. I love FF and enjoy the entertainment, but skill does not play more of a part then "luck."

Warner was far from sub par last year. He was a ww pick up and scored consistantly week in and week out. That's all I want from my qb, esp in a 4 pt per td league.

Try losing in the championship game to the team that started Patrick Jeffers and Tony Banks, both of whom were picked up off of the waiver wire at the start of the playoffs. It's been eight years and that one still sucks out loud.

strange things happen. I've been the highest scoring team in the league with the highest power ranking and not make the playoffs because I was "2nd highest scorer" in several of the weeks I wasn't high score. Of course, those were the weeks that I played the high score.

some weeks, the other dude gets the guy with the hot hand and your studs lay an egg. Anyone who had Randy Moss and Tom Brady learned that the hard way last year in week 15, but it happens every season.

You do the research, set yourself up for success, play the matchups, and whatever happens is what happens. That's why the winner is determined during week 16 rather than in preseason after the draft.

These posts all demonstrate why total points is the way to go if you want to reduce luck.

Head to Head may have fun rivalries but it's an open invitation to luck.

I won a league that year in part because of Jeffers. It was like he was singing that "Anything you can do, I can do better" song with Muhammad.

I had Muhammad. And Walls. If even one of those two week 16 TD's went to either of my guys instead of Jeffers, I win. :football:

I had the highest weekly score in my league for 7 of the last 8 weeks of the season. The one week I didn't have the highest, I had the second highest. I think you all know how this one is going to end...

I was in a total points league and needed his points to pull away. But I've been on the other side, too. It happens to everyone if you play long enough.

IMO, total points works well for fantasy NBA or NHL, but it just takes all of the fun out of FF. I'll take the head to head and luck factor any week.

I've lost with teams that were clearly superior. I've also won with lesser teams. One that stands out for me was a season when, with three weeks to go, I had to run the table to make the playoffs. I remember thinking it might be preferable to simply lose out and get the high draft pick in this dynasty league. I would never tank and, as luck would have it, I never lost another game and won the championship.

When it was over, I looked at this team and asked "how did I win?" Incidentally, I always assess the strengths/weaknesses of my teams and try to factor that into next season's strategy. I won because every player on this "middle of the road" team showed up on a weekly basis. No stand-outs but no no-shows. A very consistent group and a very satisfying season. Kinda takes the sting out of losing when you're the clear favorite.

Not me - I'll take more skill any day. With the amount of time we all spend in this hobby, having it come down to too much luck is absurd and frustrating.
