how do you deal with ants? (1 Viewer)

We have a pretty serious ant problem and it is getting worse as the weather warms.

They come up through the heating system and have taken the bathroom and one bedroom.

I have tried cinnamon and lemon soaked 2 weeks in vinegar on their entry points but it doesnt work. I want to try cayenne pepper but I am worried because of the cats.

Im sick of having to spray Raid.

Any tips?

This reads like the Battle of Stalingrad or something out of Lord of the Rings. Small unit tactics may be the best bet here.

Just kidding, GB; the suggestions above are good ones. GL.

I have one left who lives out in Cakifornia. I have never met her but I have spoken to her on the phone. She's now in her mid-90's.

If it's odorous house ants (the small ant, usually thought of as "regular" ants), call a pro. Seriously. They're notoriously difficult to remove from the home. All the remedies above will help w/ the level of ants but won't solve the root problem.

If it's carpenter ants, store bought/home remedies can work.

Call someone. They aren't destructive like carpenter ants, but they are incredibly difficult to eradicate.

Its my future in laws place. They can hire someone if they want. I will do my best to control them til we move out in a few months.

They dont really bother me, just my girl and her parents

Everyone has brain farts.

I had to get my girl some toilet trees and I was carrying ten grocery bags.

I was trying to figure out which summers eve to get. I couldnt remember if she preferred morning paradise or delicate blossom. I was sniffing them to see which was most familiar.

Completely forgot about the terror ant

I think we figured out where the smell is coming from that's attracting the ants.

Nah. Its not for odor. The wash is PH balanced so its safe to use down there

for the cost of that fancy steak dinner you are buying you could probably have an exterminator wipe them off of the face of the planet just saying brochacho

Get the Ortho and Pink Panther those mofos.

Seriously, I dont even know if it kills them, but a make a lap around the house with that stuff every year and I never see an ant. When we first moved in 10 years ago I had some coming in the side door, but not a one since using my OrthoMax or Home Protect or whatever it is called.

Now stink bugs and southern pine beetles... I got nothing. They seem to work their way in through the attic spaces something fierce in the last couple of years.

Neither neighbor has an ant issue.

Is it possible they built a nest in the house?

Nah, just may require more than 1 trip. I'll bet they've found a nice damp place to call home in the basement. Just gotta find it.
