Commishes- how do you deal with potential collusion? (1 Viewer)

Ive been commish of this same league for 12 yrs. Just like in any league, there is the occassional trade that makes you raise your eyebrow. We dont vote on trades. All trades go thru immediately. But, in the past, if the validity of a trade was questioned and an owner protested, I would ask the owners involved, the reasoning behind the trade. As long as their reasoning satisfied me, I would let the trade stand. I have never overturned a trade. But, what inevitably happens is, the owners get mad at ME for questioning their trade. Its a league of family and friends and quite honestly Im getting tired of being put in the middle of these protests.

Trade just went down last night. The two players involved were so inconsequential Im embarrassed to mention them. Team A traded an injured backup RB to Team B for a potential starting RB for the next few weeks. Team A had no other RBs to start this week so it helped him dramatically. Team A & B are friends.

Anyway, the person who is playing against Team A protested the trade to me and as commish I had to ask Team B why he did it. Of course, he acts all defensive and starts getting mad at me. Im tired of dealing with this crap. Especially for such an inconsequential trade.

I was thinking about going to a system next year, where IF an owner protests a trade THEN the trade will goto vote. I hate voting but Im out of ideas.

brohan i hear you somtimes i wish i could just put two owners who are fighting in to a thunderdome and tell them two goes in one comes out but that is not realistic in most areas and mel gibson turned out to be a world class spaz anyhow i do not know it sounds like you have a friends and family league and hell if i know what the right move is there if it was not friends and family i would just tell them to pound sand unless the rules are agaoisnt it you play in the rules and here it does not seem like there is any rule against it but jeez if it is all famliy then the two guys who did it are just yo yos becuase who wants to screw over there own family no one except mick that is who so anyhow take it tot he bank and let us all know how it turns out i know you are a straight shooter and will come up with something brohan

OK Team B admits they didnt do all their homework on the trade and asked if they should even it out. I said no, I dont wanna set that precedent and trade stands. Team B admits there is some egg on his face.

Just offload trade review to a committee three owners (odd number so there are no ties). Ask for volunteers to step up. If one of the owners is involved with a questionable trade then they recuse themself and you take their place.

They don't have to review every trade, but it puts a process in place in case someone protests.

This.Or decide to bring in a 3rd party mediation service. Those actually exist for fantasy sports. There are several that handle only fantasy football. Usually the price runs anywhere from $5 - $15 per case or you can sign them up for a year at a higher price. I won't name any here but you can do a web search to find out more.
