How do you leave a Dynasty League (1 Viewer)

A few seasons ago I joined a few dynasty leagues and I love each of the leagues. It is fun and competitive and I do not want to leave. I feel like I want to finish what I started with my teams, however, like many, I have some money issues and time issues now that my daughter is getting a little older.

How is the best way to leave a dynasty if I need to. I want to be able to give the league and commish enough time to make sure that I do not screw anyone. Do I make the decision now or after the season? I also do not want to make any negative moves to the team now that I may not be back.

so are you leaving all the leagues, or only the leagues that your team isnt that good? Not trying to be a jerk, but if you arent leaving them all, and are only picking to stay in one or two because you have great teams, then that would be crappy

Nope, not leaving leagues that my teams are crappy. I am having a down season but one league I am 8-3, another I am 2-7 but have a nice core of players (R Moss, D Bowe, S Rice, R Grant, J Addai, T Hightower, G Olsen-dont really have a QB)So one team is pretty good and the other is better then my record, at least in my opinion

As long as you are not leaving a shiity team (one that no one else would want to inherite) behind, then you are fine.

If you know you're leaving, you should tell the other owners and not make deals this year unless they truly benefit the team you're leaving long term. Probably best to not deal at all, as people will assume the worst.

So your saying that if you had 2 teams, 1 good and 1 bad and you HAD to leave 1 of them for time/money -- you'd choose the crappy team? Come on. No way. I think if we answer this honestly, more would choose the better team. Now, if their are different level of friendships involved I think THAT should be more of a deciding factor. To bail out on your good buddies for an anonymous league is kinda lame since that would impact real life relationships possibly. Hard to say.

Sounds like a personal choice to me. He can and should do whatever he wants as long as he gives distant early warning to other owners.

I'd put it out there that you are leaving and see if you can find a replacement. Get the replacement involved in any team decisions til the end of the year, then turn it over.

I see no problem in what you are doing. If it were me and I had made up my mind I was leaving for sure at the end of the season I would at this time contact the commishioner and let him know. I would then offer to continue to run the team until a suitable replacement owner could be found or until the end of the season. As others said, I would cease trading. I would continue to make solid free agent moves and set lineups but that is it.

This gives the commish as much time as possible to find a replacement and should allow for a smooth transition.

I have found myself overloaded with leagues (my own fault of course) so I will be leaving many this offseason as well. I have let the commish know as soon as I make the decision. I let him know I will continue to manage my team just like I always would have and leave other details (trading, telling other owners) up to him.

the absolute best way to leave a league is1) announce as early as possible 2) let the commish know why you are leaving (most appreciate knowing it iis not personal or if they are doing something wrong)that probably is satisfactory, but to go beyond normal would include3) finding a replacement even bringing them in a co-owner for awhile4) paying for part of the fees for the next year (obviously if money is part of the reason may not be feasible)

I am leaving a keeper league after this year as well, and I regret that I already told the league. I've been a very active trader and waiver wire guy for 5 years. I have won my division every year. I just wanted to point this out to lead into my next thought. I told the league I would not screw over my team just to win this year, and that was fine for the first few weeks. I didn't want to be handcuffed by limited trading, etc. Our league has allowed future draft pick trading without owners having to pay the fee for the following season. No owner blinked when I traded away Randy Moss for a 1st round pick next year. I made that deal about 3 weeks ago, and it probably shocked the rest of the league, as they may have expected I would only play for this year. Then when I tried to trade away a 4th round pick for Dominic Rhodes, not only did the rest of the league want me to pay the 2009 fee, but they also said I should not be trading any of my future picks. I was pissed!

My point is - no owner can say with 100% certainty they will return next year. As long as you don't screw over your team just to win it all now, keep your mouth shut. Yes, I know it sounds rude, but had I just kept quiet, I would've been able to manage my team this year without the rest of the league scrutinizing every move. And, trust me, the team I leave behind will have no trouble finding a new owner. Hell, I bet almost all of the current owners would take my team and give their's to the new guy if they could.

i have been running dynasty leagues for 11 years and this is the #1 reason an owner quites, bad teamfrom a commissioner of dynasty leagues, let your commsih know ASAP. this gives him enough time to find the right replacement
