How do you pick Kickers? (1 Viewer)

wow some awesome work there.

I don't think Seattle is an outdoor "old man winter" stadium but who cares that's some serious info to digest

thanks!

Based on data going back thru 1990:

Where do Top Five Kickers rank the year afterwards?

21% 1-5

23% 6-10

15% 11-15

14% 16-20

18% 21-25

10% 26-32

Where do 6th-10th ranked kickers rank the year afterwards?

26% 1-5

28% 6-10

18% 11-15

15% 16-20

5% 21-25

8% 26-32

Where did Top Five Kickers rank the year beforehand?

1-5 21%

6-10 23%

11-15 26%

16-20 15%

21-25 10%

26-32 6%

Where did 6th-10th ranked kickers rank the year beforehand?

1-5 26%

6-10 28%

11-15 7%

16-20 15%

21-25 11%

26-32 14%

Interesting. It looks like the data is saying that the top kickers in any given year are fluky (Neil Rackers, anyone?), but the second tier tends to be a bit more stable from year to year.

Each year there are one or two from mediocre offenses that reach field goal range often but not any further. The problem is predicting which team that will be in a given year... except for the Ravens which is why Stover has been top ten in 6 of the last 7 years.
LOL, this is so true. It is effective for using the wire early in the sason, though, as you start to see who can't get in the end zone. For drafting, I mainly loo for consistent scores and hign completion %'s.

Good passing offense, weak running game. I want a team that can get yards in gulps, but can't pull the trigger. .
This is what I look for exactly. Arizona is the prototype offense for this formula and I'm not of the opinion Edge is a great goal line back who is going to change this. Add a dome to the equation and I've got to like Rackers chances this year of being a top kicker again.

Some other teams that might fit that bill:Dallas

Indy

Green Bay

Houston

Huh? Edge is a great back, but amongst NFL starting RBs he is not very good at the goalline. Just ask Peyton Manning, as a good deal of the reason he broke the passing TD record was Edge's last place ranking (including starters and backups...he actually tied for last with Artose Pinner) in success rate from inside the 5.

Now I see what people mean when they say they were misquoted. I don't know if you did this on purpose or just do not read well but you terribly misquoted me.

Kickers are like fortune cookies.

When a dish of fortune cookies arrives at the table, allow the other people to grab the one they want. The last cookie is holding a fortune that is meant for you.

The same thing applies with kickers.

So sayeth the Capn.

Amen.

I know Capybura (aka Mike Herman) doesn't want to toot his own horn, but he did call Rakers last year prior to the season. He also pretty much nails the kicker analysis every week during the season, as I ended up playing waiver wire kickers based on his weekly analysis and it really paid off.

So my question is, and I think it's a very good question, why the heck hasn't Mike done his own kicker analysis for the season for us subscribers to benefit from? I KNOW he's got a few overlooked gems figured out, and I'd love to see them. Herman has the kickers nailed, I can't understand why it's Dodds doing the kicker projections.

I'm calling Footballguys/Herman out - we need a Herman kicker analysis/ranking for the season.....please
