It's not short for "biography," since the phrase "biography picture" would be redundant and nonsensical. It's short for "biographical picture," where the "bio" in question is pronounced as in the pronunciation key above.

It's a BIOgraphical PICture. Any vote other than bio-pick deserves physical damage.
I don't care how people pronounce biopic but I am not sure how Sci-Fi acknowledges the "fiction" part of the word?Right. Then you learn that it comes from 'Science Fiction' and you pronounce it "Sigh-Figh"skiffy?
Like 'myopic' until I learn that it is short for 'Biographical Picture' then I say it Bio-Pic.You come across the word biopic and never seen it before, how would you pronounce it?
How can that be /thread, when I posted the Webster's pronunciation 2 hours earlier?

I'm shocked as well. This makes no sense. This is one poll where I was sure my choice would be at 90%. I'm stunned that bi-opp-ick is actually ahead.

I assumed this would be a landslide. Instead, we have this mild embarrassment.
in less of a surprise- despite the presence of clear evidence, the majority wrong-doers maintain their position.I assumed this would be a landslide. Instead, we have this mild embarrassment.
Never, ever. I'm not sure most of the voters know what the word means... Or are just trolling.I've never heard it said any other way than bio-pic.

By the same token I know how biopic is supposed to be pronounced and I say it that way but it never sounds right. Saying it like myopic sounds better.
