How Does Matt Barkley Fit In Philadelphia? (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

Philly Mag's Sheil Kapadia admits Eagles QB Matt Barkley is likely fighting for a roster spot.

Kapadia adds that the Eagles' coaching staff "has showed no confidence" in Barkley. He can't get over the No. 3 quarterback hump, and coach Chip Kelly apparently has no intentions of handing him the backup gig this offseason. There were reports last summer that Barkley was being outperformed by QB G.J. Kinne.

Rotoworld:

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Eagles would trade Matt Barkley for "a late draft pick."
Just not a very talented player, Barkley lacks NFL-caliber arm strength and athleticism. The Eagles would do well to get a sixth-round pick for him. He's struggled to beat out G.J. Kinne for third-string duties in Philadelphia, with only Barkley's higher draft status keeping him on the 53-man roster.

Yea if they could get it. Guy is a bum.

Rotoworld:

NBC Washington's Dianna Marie Russini confirms Eagles QB Matt Barkley is on the trade block.

From there, it gets much juicier, as Russini reports a Barkley trade would mean there's an "80 percent chance" free agent Tim Tebow becomes an Eagle. We find it hard to believe there's any sort of a market for Barkley's services. If football czar Chip Kelly is itching to make Tebow his latest daring addition, Barkley could soon be handed his walking papers.

Not sold on Chip itching for Tebow but replacing Barkley with Bryan Bennett is more something that I would buy. Bennett recorded the best pass velocity at the combine - 60 mph.

Rotoworld:

Matt Barkley's grip on the No. 3 quarterback job is not secure.

The Eagles wasted the No. 98 overall pick in 2013 on Barkley, who has no value whatsoever on the trade market. He's going to have to fight off G.J. Kinne and Tim Tebow for his job this offseason. The Dolphins reportedly preferred a flier on Josh Freeman over Barkley.

I need to start following Dianna Marie Russini. She alone knows what Kelly is up to. It is like she is Clarice and Kelly is Hannibal Lecter.

Rotoworld:

Although Howie Roseman oversaw the 2013 draft, Matt Barkley was reportedly a Chip Kelly pick.

The Barkley pick was widely laughed at when it was made and nothing has changed since then. Unable to drive the football and lacking athleticism, he's not long for the NFL and a wasted fourth-rounder by Kelly. The Philadelphia Inquirer projects Tim Tebow as the Eagles' No. 3 quarterback this year behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez.

Barkley pick was laughed at? Walterfootball mock had him going 33, for whatever it's worth.

Not defending it, but saying it was laughed it is way over the top.

People have terrible memories.

Yea everyone thought value at the time. People questioned the need but they all thought 4th rd for a fallen prospect was good value.

@EliotShorrParks: Easier to make opinions on QBs during OTAs as opposed to other positions, but Matt Barkley might be one the most improved player on #Eagles

Rotoworld:

Matt Barkley completed 12-of-20 passes for 192 yards and one interception in the Eagles' preseason opener Sunday.

Barkley was the second quarterback through the rotation behind Mark Sanchez with Sam Bradford (knee) not playing. He played nearly two quarters and overall had a strong day. Barkley drilled Jordan Matthews for a 26-yard pickup on his first throw, fitting the ball in perfectly to his receiver with two defensive backs in the area. Barkley's blemish was his interception on a ball tipped at the line of scrimmage. Barkley did nothing to hurt his chances of being the No. 3 QB.

No idea how he'd even fit in Arians' scheme even if he didn't suck. Thought he preferred the strong arm types that could push the ball downfield.

Actually I think Arizona needs to do better in the backup QB department. Stanton and the rest were not up to the challenge last year.
Stanton did ok. But then got hurt. I think they're prob just seeing if they might be able to upgrade their #3 b/c of injury history.
