How does Moss trade affect Harvin? (1 Viewer)

Clearly Harvin is not quite ready to be a #1 WR but does the addition of Moss hurt him because he will lose targets or help him by take coverage off him allowing him to play a role like last year and start getting some big plays in single coverage?

not sure how it affects Rice / Harvin Shianco and Berrien... guessing Berrien goes away...Harvin takes some of Shiancoes short routes, Rice, can take his time coming back.. and the whole field opens up for Peterson...

Im optimistic about what Moss does for Harvin. Harvin will get to go back to his natural position in the slot and work all the underneath stuff. I expect his production to increase dramatically.

Yeah, I'm going to be interested in this development since I'm starting Harvin most weeks. I hope it means more looks across the middle of the field.

IMO Harvin is perfect for a Welker-type roll if the Vikings choose to use him that way. Of course, if they use him THAT extensively, it would mean AP's touches go way down, so I don't think we'll see Harvin catching 100+ balls any time soon.

All the double teams will go to Randy Moss so this is a good thing for Harvin. I am wondering more what this does for Sydney Rice when he returns. I think Sydney will be a must start with Randy sharing the feild with him.

Bump Brett Farve? I think so.

Theres only one ball. Moss, Rice, Harvin, Shaincoe arent all going to be studs. Especially with AD getting near 400 carries.

I just posted about this in the Moss trade thread. I think this is huge for Harvin. He's not ready to be a go-to WR right now. This will enable him to settle back into the No. 2 role and see more single coverage. Plus, he'll be able to work with more freedom underneath with Moss clearing things out with his deep routes. Harvin did well last season when teamed with Rice. There's every reason to believe he can be just as good and potentially better working with Moss. He could be a big upgrade in PPR formats.

The addition of Moss is great news for all offensive Vikes. Absolutely.

First off, Moss will clearly help Favre. He brings a whole new dimension to the offense and defenses will have to game plan for him. And with Moss there, this absolutely helps Harvin. It will be just like last year with Rice being the deep threat to stretch the field and Harvin grabbing all the over the middle stuff and sidelines plays. Maybe even better than with Rice because Moss strikes fear into most defensive players. Same goes for Shiancoe, who Favre already has a clear rapport with.

But the biggest beneficiary of Moss arriving has to be Peterson. Now, the field opens up more for him and gives him more of those cut back lanes he hasn't had yet. And Peterson can take any one of those cut backs to the house at any time!

Good news for all Vikes in my opinion.

I suppose you are right. Drop them all. ;)If Rice comes back at full strength I see fewer yards for Shiancoe but he is still a big red zone guy. AP sees fewer carries but more opportunity. More carries for Gerhart to keep AP fresh. Rice and Harvin will battle back and forth every week.I still see boom or bust weeks for Moss. He will burn some owners into losses. Expect threads titled "Randy Moss knocked me out of the playoffs" later on.Biggest winner is Favre. He could easily turn into Brady. Let the D decide who they want to cover and feed the open guy.Exciting times here in Minny. Not the same buzz as when Favre showed up but there should be. This is a game-changer for the Vikings' year.

I'm not expecting Rice to come back at full strength. I think hip injuries are more flakey than knee injuries (help me if you've got some better info than my gut). If Rice doesn't come back as a force this season then I think it improves all targets that are shorter than Moss. QB, RB, TE and Slot WR all get an upgrade as does the DEF since MIN will score more points and force teams to make risky passes to catch up.

RotoWorld's take:

Percy Harvin's production is likely to benefit from the Vikings' acquisition of Randy Moss.

Speaking to Profootballtalk's Mike Florio, one league source called Harvin "a better Wes Welker." The Vikings haven't announced whether Bernard Berrian or Harvin will be "demoted" following Moss deal, but Harvin could see a 25 percent slip in snaps and still be a better bet for targets, receptions, yards, and touchdowns than the Ghost of Berrian. Fully recovered from a pre-bye week hip injury, Harvin is a high-end WR3 with WR2 upside moving forward.

I dont see the harvin-welker comparisons. Pats use welker as their "running game". Vikings have arguably the best back in football.

No they won't pass as much as the Pats. But the trade will open things up for Harvin.I guess how much Harvin benefits depends on how well Moss does facing constant double teams. I personally don't think Moss will be monster in Minnesota at all. He hasn't been beating heavy coverage in NE this year and I don't think he will in Minnesota either.Look at this week for example.Moss gets put on Revis Island now for sure. Harvin does from getting Revis on him to being an afterthough in the Jets defensive plans. He probably will work a lot in the slot and will see a lot more space. Now the question is whether Favre will take the open passes to Harvin and Shincoe or force it into heavy coverage of Moss. Knowing Favre he might force it at first but then realize other things are working better.I put the over/under of Favre throwing his first pick on a pass to moss at 21/2 quarters.

I'm curious how owners who own BOTH Harvin and Moss feel about this trade.

I'd be happy if I owned Moss+Welker, Wayne+Collie, etc. and wouldn't think twice about starting them at the same time every week. Not sure about about Harvin+Moss and am debating whether to try and move one.

I think Harvin benefits greatly from this, but to be honest, I really think Berrian does. Everyone says that Berrian will not be a factor now (I'm talking with Rice out), but he is a "one trick pony" and if that deep safety is rolling to Moss' side, then Berrian gets deep a few times a game.

He isn't doing anything now, so he can't get worse.

I hope this help out Harvin. He appears to be rounding into form, problem is long term he's now the third best receiver instead of the second best. So while I like him this season, because of Rice's status, his long term value is muted by this move (assuming they lock Moss up).

:lmao: Right on. Harvin is not a WR1 and is hardly a WR2 at this stage of his development. Harvin is best suited to play out of the slot and with Moss in town the Vikes can actually effectively put him there. Moss will warrant double coverage on the outside, Berrian/Rice will work the other outside and Harvin will work the slot vs. either S's or LB's. This is the best thing that could have possibly happened to Harvin. This is the best thing that could have possibly happened to the entire Vikes offense and team.

Rice is in a contract year, Vikes may let him walk.

Some Tweets from Vikings players on the news.

Sidney Rice:

"RT @merryeyes: @sidneyrice Are u ok wit Moss coming back? Are you serious? This is gonna be interesting. In a great way! Welcome home Randy!"

Bryant McKinney:

"I know I like waking up 2 good news!"

Visanthe Shiancoe:

"RT@ okeytrice @VShiancoe Are you drooling at the prospect of never having a corner lined up on you for the rest of the year?"

"RT@ JeffGreen311 @VShiancoe Recipe for VICTORY: Throw in some Brett, Harvin, dash of AD, some Shank, ADD Moss, and the fab 4 you got ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES."

"Welcome back Moss"

"Great move by the front office.. Our team has gotten better"

Pretty much everyone loves the move. The only person really quiet is B-Twice. I wonder why? HAHAHA. God he's terrible lol.

I haven't stopped smiling all day.
So you'd start both of them each week?
I can start as many as 5 WRs in my league so it's different than traditional ones. I'd give very strong consideration to Harvin in PPR formats this week. I think he could be very busy underneath. Moss is Moss. I'd never sit him even against Revis. But that's just my personal approach as a Moss owner.

I briefly thought about doing this but with my luck AP would get 3 TDs Monday...
Yeah, that's exactly my concern. With Manning and Brady having pretty weak running games, I'd be comfortable starting two WR's from the same team each week. Not so with Favre who has one of the best RB's in the league.I'll just have to figure out who I can deal for the best value and go from there. The good thing is that both Harvin and Moss gets a boost in perceived value at least because of the trade.

I have Harvin in two leagues and am debating starting him. In one it's him or Lloyd, in the other it's him, Clayton, or Floyd...
