IF he can return to form then anywhere in the 4th is value for Welker in PPR leagues.
But Im just not convinced a guy who relies so much on quickness and hard cuts can return less than a year from tearing BOTH his ACL and MCL. If anyone can do it it's Welker but I just have a hard time believing it.
Personally, I won't gamble on Welker until the 5th or 6th so that basically means he won't be on my team. But if you think he's healthy and will be 100% or close to it from week 1 on then I say take him in the 4th and don't look back.
in 0.5 PPR, that's a bit of a stretch and you might've seen him back at you in the 5th round. in a full PPR draft for the FPC draft last week, i took welker at the 4.12/5.01 turn as the 17th WR off the board. i do think you reached a bit, but i like the way you think.
I know at least one other owner in this league who told me he was going to take him at the end or rd 4 or beginning of rd 5, so I know he wouldn't have made it back. That doesn't make this a wise decision though, lol.I read a blurb that he was participating in the 11-on-11 full contact portion of practice and that made me pull the trigger. :X
I would say the end of the 4th or the 5th round is decent value - any earlier and, as an owner, you are definitely playing with fire. He's a "quickness" player that has a new knee - I would say 80 catches would be a very nice success for Welker in 2010.
I would be wary of drafting Welker high. First, after an ACL surgery it is rare for a player who relies on speed (WR/RB) to return to the same level of performance his first year back. Typically, it is his second year after the surgery where he is fully functional. Secondly, his injury was severe: he tore both his MCL and ACL and it was late in the season, so his return is already pushing the medical envelope so to speak. Finally, once a guy has an injury like that it seems like his chance of some other injury increases because people try to compensate for the injury and so they run differently and end up hurting something else.
anyone else see them spreading the ball around a lot? A 4 wide set with Tate/Moss on the outside and Edelman and Welker inside would be tough to defend, with Alge & 2 young TE's I could see this a lot.
