How Good Do You Think MIN DEF is? (1 Viewer)

Well, they were helped a bit today with the loss of Kitna, but they were still very good. Wish I would have played them instead of the Dolphin D...

As a Viking fan, I was encouraged by how they played. Last year, against an offense like that, they would have given up 30+ easily.

They looked good in preseason and it seemed to carry over into Week 1....granted it was against the Falcons. What are you feelings about starting them each week? Could they be a top 10 Defense? Top 5?
Are you kidding? I drafted them as my no 1 D and they were already an easy top 10 pick IMO (not that that's saying much). No I didn't expect this much, but....

I was trying to grab Minnesota in every league I was in. They were going in the 5-10 range of defenses in almost every draft I was in. They were a top 10 defense last year and were improved heading into 2007. It sounds like you are talking about them as if they were the 25th or so ranked defense and had a great week one.

The only thing Minnesota was missing from being the best D in the league last year was a pass rush. Guess what, they now have a pass rush.
Im highly optimistic on them this year being an owner. I want to see them against Detroit before I feel comfortable. If they can contain them on the road then they are going to be studly and I will put them in without risk. For tomorrow, I am playing Cincy against Cleveland cause our league subtracts points if your D gives up 27+. I will be watching them closely. Those guys just hawk the ball.
:X

Yea bonehead play of the weekend for me, lost me my double header. I Saw them at #3 on the FBG cheatsheet and was swayed. That is the last time I will do that. I am just sticking with the vikes unless they suffer some big injuries.

They'll get stronger as the season progresses too.

- Greenway is still in essentially his first year

- Griffin in his 2nd and McCauley in his 1st year. Both got picked on yesterday, and played decently.

- Ray Edwards may be the pass rusher they've been looking for.

I agree with points 1 & 3, but I was at the game yesterday (and would have asked for my $$$ back if I had paid for my ticket) and the only reason why Griffin didn't continue to get lit up like a Christmas tree was because Kitna went out of the game for a while. MacDonald and Roy were consistently burning him on cross routes and had a good 5 yd lead on deep routes (and were luckily overthrown by Kitna). He also got caught standing there begging for a flag on Calvin's TD. On Kitna's scrambles in the 4th quarter, Griffin ran right past him. He'll get you good points in IDP for tackles, but in terms of a corner, he's looking like the weak leak in the secondary.

That's the problem, as I understand it, with running a cover-2 against that type of offense. Too often, CBs that aren't good at man-to-man are forced into just such a coverage. Neither Griffin nor McCauley (nor 75% of the league's CBs) are going to look good going mano-y-mano against guys like Roy Williams. He (Griffin) hasn't been terrible up to this point, so I can chalk it up to one bad game. But it does make me nervous.

Their defense is designed to give up yardage, but force turnovers when the QB makes a mistake. That is exactly what is happening and it is good for fantasy scoring. Roy and CJ will catch a lot of balls against a lot of CBs in this league--that hardly proves that Griffin is bad.
