How horrible is this Keeper League... (1 Viewer)

I have been in this keeper league since 2006 and I question every year why do they not listen to recommendations on how to improve it.

My issues are as follows you can keep any player for 2 years. In essence top 24 players are kept each year since it is a 24 player league.

I recommend doing a complete redraft one year and your keepers will be 2 players drafted in the last 5 rounds.

Another issue that bothers me is they allow trading of your roster during the off season.

An example would be a manager has Brees and Manning on his team and he is shopping Manning for a draft pick. Keeper rules state you can only keep 2 players

of different positions. So this Manager knowing Manning has to go back in the draft pool is trying to shop him around for draft picks and thin out the

draft pool.

I asked the commissioner to pass a rule that you can only trade your keepers all other players should go to the draft pool?

Is this league being run by an idiot or am I off base with my suggestions.

Yeah with so many leagues out there with so many different rules I'd do few things instead of "whining" in a thread about it.

Quit and play in other leagues.

Start your own league with rules you enjoy.

Try harder to convince the other owners of the changes.

I'm a commish of a long keeper league and I don't think I'd listen to your rule changes either. One thing that we have in our league though is a voting system which has allowed our league to evolve over the years. At the draft each year guys bring up any rule changes or ideas for the league. They have a few minutes to argue their case, other guys in the league argue for or against it and then after the debate is done you have a vote. If you win the rule is changed, if not you've at least had a chance to say your peace.

Your suggestions are silly.

Don't want to pile on too much, but a lot of keeper leagues have really simple rules like that and are just fine. If you're not building a league from a community of die-hard FBG-type managers, you might have a group that isn't really interested in the complexities of late-round picks only, time limits for how long you can keep them, and so on.

My favorite league is my local one with a bunch of buddies, and we added a very simple "keep any three, no restrictions" rule a few years back. Would I rather have a round-replacement or escalation rule so my super-savvy 12th-round picks were worth more, or so the guy who keeps Rodgers every year would be paying a lot for him? Sure. Does it work fine regardless? Absolutely. I went back and checked the numbers, and in just three years we've had about a 60% keeper turnover since the start-up draft. The NFL changes faster than we really seem to perceive.

I'm in a 24 team dynasty where you carry 16 players. Trading opens on memrorial day, you cut down to 10 August 1 and the draft is labor day. On August 2 everyone must have 10 players and 6 picks. You can't trade picks for a future year. There are no in season transactions.

It's an awesome league because everyone realizes that the rules are not changing and it's up to the owner to find ways to win. In your league it seems to me that the guy with Manning and brees should be tryin to get max value and the rest of you should be low balling him. Aside from not understanding how he ended up with both of those guys if you have to keep guys from different positions, what's the problem?

If you can only keep a guy 2 years there should be plenty of good available players...roughly half the top 24 should be available every year. One of the best parts of a keeper league is the offseason trading. Seems like you wish to change the league too much so it's probably time to just find a new one.

So if some guy is able to shop Peyton as a top 24 pick... you have one more better pick slipping to you. You should also stock up on injured players as the season goes if the other owners are so susceptible to wonky trades.

I'm in a league w/ restricted roster spots and 4 keepers, but can only keep starters in each of the positions (1 QB, 2Rb, etc.). We had a large rules meeting a couple weeks ago w/ 10 of the 14 guys showing up. We had a lot of different things out there to make it more traditional (currently we only get points at yardage plateaus...20yds/40yds etc).

However, the one thing we realized part of the way through was that the reason a lot of us loved this league more than others was that it was different and away from the norm. I think unique rules or systems add to the experience and can breed a lot of pride in the league. I'd suggest just trying to figure out your system and treat it like a completely different type of game that will require you to grow your skill set and get you outside your comfort zone.
