How important is position eligibility to you? (1 Viewer)

Is it a big deal in your league?

I think I might be making it too big of a deal.

For example, I have crappy Clint Barmes on my bench only because he is eligible at SS, 2B, and 3B. He's still young so I'm holding out hope that he hasn't hit his potential yet (even though Stewart played for him yesterday).

I'll bump a guys value up slightly if he qualifies at multiple positions, but you don't want to get too crazy. If Kelly Johnson goes for $8 and Mark DeRosa goes for $14 I'd take Johnson every time.

In my league, it's not terribly important.

There are 14 spots in the lineup and there are alot of options to get guys in the lineup. The games limit is also not position specific, which I think makes pos. eligility less important. For example, my team is pretty weak at SS and I'm in no hurry to use a ton of games with the SS position. The rules require me to keep my starter in, but I use my other roster spots to maximize/overload the games played at the 1B/CI/OF spots.

In any league, multi eligibilty is nice, but only if they are eligible at the offensively weak positions, C, 2B, SS, and you could say 3B this season.

Regarding Barmes, I'd look elsewhere. Crappy production is crappy production, no matter what position it's eligible for. There are likely better options on the wire at the 2B/SS positions.

Barmes historically has large home/road splits. He could be useful as a fill in while the Rockies are on a homestand, but only if he's playing regularly. I'd monitor the COL 2B situation for a while unless there's a free agent available in your league who can start for you. But if Barmes gets extended playing time due to an injury, he's worth a roster spot.

I look for one guy, normally DeRosa, that I will take a round early or pay a bit more and then just consider myself set. One year I paid too much to position eligibility and had a whole infield of crappy, but interchangeable pieces.

It does go without saying that a guy that can play a corner and a middle is much more valuable than a guy that plays corner/corner or corner/OF.

Love it - especially in a league with daily transactions. Every year I fall at least 10 games below the maximum in many positions due to injuries, mismanagement  , etc...

A guy that has multi-position eligibility can easily add 150-200 ab's to your team total which should add across the board (even 300-400 if you can get a few guys that are good with multiple positions). I try not to overspend or draft too early, but I'll do my best to draft these guys (or vulture them off the waiver/fa wire)
