How is the "pay" info on this site? (1 Viewer)

Damn, 99 replies! You had me at hello.....seriously, I have always like your draft tool and that alone is almost worth it. My high stakes league is a keeper league so more info on keepers/dynasty leagues would be great. Thanks for all of the feedback. I had no idea so many people would give their opinions.

I have never paid for anything quite simply because I can't imagine needing anything more than I get here. I wouldn't say I'm a total shark(I don't play in any leagues over $250 and I don't completely dominate each year), but from reading these boards I feel like I know all there is to know about basic FF strategy and about the players each year.

I know that $20 is rather insignificant, but honestly what else is there that can't be found on these boards, at nfl.com, or at pro football reference?

I guess maybe if I ever decided to join a high stakes league, then those extra little tidbits would make it worthwhile, but as it is, I barely have enough time to read all of the stuff here yet alone to study more info thrown at me.

The mods will suspend your account if you even hint that the pay content around here is bad.  That has happened to me twice.
Because you brought it up I don't have a problem sharing the facts. You've had your account suspended two times, and neither had anything to do with what you mentioned. The first was for circumventing the language filter, and the other was for being a general #######.People question, debate, and complain about the services we provide all the time. Not problem with that. It has lead to several improvements in what we provide.

We try to be specific in what we allow on the message boards. You can refer to the FAQ pinned at the top of the Free For All for more details.
That is complete and utter bull####!!!!!I want to see the posts where I was "circumventing the language filter" whatever the hell that means and the post where I was being an ###. I've asked nicely 3 times prior for an explanation and never got a response. I've PM'd Joe about it this time and have yet to get a response. Perhaps you want to be the good mod and show me what I did wrong. I would love to see it. If you don't want to put it on this thread then PM it to me. I demand to know what I did, because it is complete crap as I did nothing wrong...ever, but yet have been suspended twice without as much as a PM letting me know what I did wrong. That is not a way to run a forum, much less a damn business as you take money from people here. Show me what I did wrong...PLEEEAAASSSEEEE!
No problem. You were first suspended by Joe Bryant on Dec 12 2005, 06:45 AM

He never ever fu**ing plays.
The note made after this entry is "repeat tool". You were suspended 1 day.The second time was on Oct 14 2005, 07:13 PM when you referred to another poster as "SCHLONG!" Joe suspended your account three days that time as it was a second time.

He doesn't bother sending someone a PM when he suspends an account. He doesn't have the time or patience for it. You can contact him <bryant@footballguys.com> if you want to debate it.

Neither was a case of you being suspended because you questioned the content on our site. We know we don't have your business, nor your future business. No problem. These boards remain free for your use as long as you follow our posted guidelines.
why did i get suspended for a week, when other people who do similar things only get suspended for 1 day

Anarchy Invitational ring a bell? Coincidence where you finished relative to those subscribing?

No matter what angle or info you choose to use, this site has a section that will address it and be of use. You could never absorb all of this data, but pick what you need and go. This is a great tool.

I have never paid for info before but as teh years go by and I get more busy, I could use some additional help with my high stakes league. Is Football guys stuff worth it?
Worth every penny. Customized draftsheets for the draft are worth the cost. Add in the weekly cheatsheets and breaking news make it a steal. And don't get me started on the heaps of other information available on a weekly basis. I don't even have enough time to delve into it all.

Hopefully, FBG doesn't get a big head and starts to charge more....
if more people sign up, they shouldn't have to.... ;)
Not necessarily -- costs could go up as more content/writers are added (assuming that not all new writers are volunteers).Or, FBG could recognize the value their differentiated product and decide to charge a premium.

In all reality, I doubt it, because of the character of the FBGs. But, the possibility exists -- this isn't merely a scale economies issue.

A couple of years ago, I tried subscribing to another site. By midseason, I anted up and still resubscribed to Footballguys.

I hope I don't get in trouble for this but does anyone subscribe to any other site? And how do those compare. I have been a FBG subscriber for 3 years now and I really like their product but I have also thought about other sites like Fantasy Guru. Any opinions out there? (This does not mean I will not subscribe to FBG I am just looking for some opinions)

I am a firm believer that FF is mostly luck, that the cheatsheets have absolutely zero utility, and that owners need to make their own decisions.Having said all of this, I have subscribed three years in a row now, mostly out of loyalty and admiration for the hard work and quality product that is the footballguys environment. If you need FF info, you can get it here.Oh yeah, also for the email updates and off-season stuff.Overall I subscribe because I am a fan of the people that run this outfit.

Do you keep a record on each user for each time they get suspended? If so, I'd love to see mine!

This is the second time someone has mentioned this to me.I don't remember the draft, my team, or following anything all year long? Did I really do that bad? Who was on my team?

Hey, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a total shark, as I even said in the post you quoted. I come here mostly to debate and have a few laughs. I'm definitely more of a pure football fan than fantasy football fan(probably why I'm always defending guys like Vick and Brady as NFL QBs). If I did bad in that contest, then so be it- I'll eat crow there. However, I am still confident in my FF ability, and I'd join a money league with anyone that challenged me.

Relatively unfazed by injuries when compared to other teams. You really should have followed this if you want to be competitive. A subscription and access to the dominator for this special scoring would have definately helped put some meat in this sammich.

Your choice and I still like the debate you bring to the table...I'm just saying that dropping $20 would definately make you a better player and maybe even fill those icy pots.

You could have used the cheatsheets off of "Joe Schmoe's basement FF site" and had a better team. You hardly need the draft dominator...

subscribed for 2 years in a row and am pleased with what I get for the money. I would like more IDP, but other than that (oh yeah, being on the east coast sort of postpones info to the next day) I'm a happy customer.

Here's my reasons why to subscribe:I'm in 8 leagues total.Playoffs in 6 of 8. One that didn't make it is an orphan keeper team I picked up this season. Other is a second year keeper orphan team. So, 6 for 6 basically. Superbowl in 2. Lost in 2. And Playing semi's as the top seed in last 2 leagues. It has been good for me for 2 years running!Draft Dominator is worth the price of admission!!!Only wish we could go back to last year's Subscriber Contest Format.

Dude, you should have to pay $20 just to be allowed to post here! :P Seriously, this site brings a tidal wave of tools and information right to your fingertips. Why not support the guys for their hard work?! Consider it an annual "tip" for their service.

I'd hate to be your waiter and overkill you with great service at a restaurant. You'd say...geez, that was nice, but I can get okay service all over town...and then skimp on the tip.

They provide a service and a forum for us to get what we need and in a fairly timely fashion. Isn't this deserving of $20? Or do you somehow feel they owe it to you?

What if everyone held your same opinion? Would this site even be able to sustain itself? I think not.

Pay the $20...

I agree, pay up and enjoy.FBG weekly rankings/weekly reports and everything else they do week in and week out is worth $20. Then throw in the fact that it is basically unbiased information and you've hit gold. The message board is great, but you need to read between the lines a lot. Reading some info about a Cowboy from a diehard Redskin fan could be a little skewed... :D

My opinion is that the weekly stuff is good but not much better than stuff you can find for free other places, it's just laid out in a format easier to read. I'm not willing to pay for those few bonuses. What I WILL pay for is the pre-season content. That stuff alone is worth the twenty dollars. This board is where I come to for my weekly info, this place is amazing. I daresay a person need not suscribe if they'd just spend enough time in the shark pool.

One piece of what is offered for pay content that could possibly change your mind is the Sunday Morning Injuries section (or whatever it's called).Starting at 11:30 est, there is, on one page (and this is the key), updates for injuries or whatever of players who will not be appearing for that week. (Also, there are updates on players who were NOT supposed to be playing who are GOING to play that week.)

I find this invaluable (yes, it's a bit of hyperbole) from the perspective of "time is short". I (and "we", collectively) don't have a lot of time before the games begin on a Sunday morning to search in numerous locations for player-specific information about who will/won't play that day. Having it in one place is, in itself, worth the subscription price to me.

Great responses by all. I have never paid for ANY "premium" content on a website (sports or "other"), but I will strongly conisder joining FBG next season. As one poster said, the sheer diversity of opinions are exceptional, giving the site a true community feel. You are not paying for only one persons' opinion, but rather an eclectic range of ideas from a large group of dedicated, hard-core football fans. Its a great concept that the big boys (ESPN, SI, Sportsline) would be wise to follow. Moreover, I think its a very rare instance when a small, grass-roots Company continuosuly provides a better product than the big-name market leaders in a given industry. These guys are actually kicking ESPN's butt, and its not from a lack of trying on ESPN's part. My hat goes off to you, FBG.

Subscribed for the first time this year, Haven't decided on next, but leaning yes. There is some good stuff: target stats, updated injuries, etc. There is some corny stuff: Game predictor - this dadgum thing picked nothing but favorites all year. Lineup dominator - If you can't set your own dern lineup then what can you do?

I've been a fbg follower for years. This year I've been 'sharing' a couple of other sites with some friends, just to see the difference. To me, there is no comparison. I won't be wasting my time with any other sites next year or for years to come. Keep up the good work, men!

I'm in my 4th year of FFB and this is the first year I've paid for content on this site. It is also the first year I've made the Superbowl.p.s. I'm a 23 point favorite to win.

I've been a member here for a long time, since it was free, but haven't participated in the forum here much aside from reading it. I figure this is a great reason to come out of lurk mode.I've never had a losing season in any league in over 10 years, and have won several championships. I usually play in 2-3 leagues per season. I attribute my success to middle round drafting and timely waiver wire activity. A large portion of the credit for my success in those areas goes to FBG's.The price of the subscription is ridiculously cheap for the amount of information, tools, and statistical analysis provided.Don't hesitate, just subscribe.

I love FBG. I've been a visitor/subscriber since cheatsheet.net days.I pay the $24.95 (or whatever it is) every year for 3 specific items...1) preseason draft cheatsheets - sure some of the projections are off, but they do a much better job at it than if I did it myself. I find that I always get a few gems in the draft. This season - Steve Smith and Carson Palmer.2) Lineup Dominator (Top 200 forward) - not so much for lineup help but for a quick look at my waiver wire and which players are projected to do well for the remaining weeks of the season.3) Players in the News - yeah, it's public info, but having it all in one spot, in an email, saves me tons of time digging up info on my individual players. Especially since I'm in 3 leagues, with as many as 50 different players to track. The "My Team" tool is great, but limited to 25 players. I use it to track my top 25 guys, I wish we could expand the number of players to track. Also, the Random Shots email is a nice diversion from the week.I'm in 2 leagues, and in the 6(?) seasons since I've been familiar with the FBG sites I've done very well (won 5 of the past 12 championships, 1 2nd place finish and 2 3rd place finishes). So, based on prior successes, I'll be subscribing next season.

dffl_commish, You can have as many "Teams" as you want. You could have two "My Teams" and track 50 guys, or 75, or 100. You could have a "Team" of just RBs that you want to watch and compare. I played with it some and came up with different combinations that work for me, give it another look.
