How long did you wait before drafting your first RB... (1 Viewer)

Just curious to see what you ended up with if you went with something other than a RB in your first two rounds. I have the 12th overall pick in a 12 team PPR league with no flex. If available, I am considering going with one of the top 3 QB's and either a TE or WR at 2.01.

Went AP in the 2nd round. Then got Gerhart in the 10th. I was targetting charles or AP in the 2nd or 3rd and then grabbing Hillis/Gerhart where I could get them.

12 team ppr.

Was targeting Brady at 1.07 and Sjax or Murray at 2.06. All went before my 1st and 2nd pick.

Ended up starting Megatron, Stafford, Julio.

Took Doug Martin at 4.06

Took Hillis at 7.07

Took Spiller at 8.06

Took D. Wilson at 9.07

Took Gerhart at 11.07

I guess if Julio drops to the third for me, I would be forced to grab him there and then go RB.

5th round: McGahee

12 team 0.5 PPR from the 11 hole - 3rd round reversal

Went stud QB (Brees)\TE (Gronk) then grabbed two WR (Andre Johnson and Dez).

Ended up with McGahee (5.3), S. Greene(6.11), D. Brown (7.2), and C. Benson(9.2) as RBs. Should be able to play matchups with two of these RBs any given week.

3 to 4 rounds and I always seem to land Marshawn Lynch. Usually don't take an RB2 until about round 7 and then rounds 7-10 I might take 3 RBs inside of 4 rounds with the intent of rotating them as my RB2.

I am looking to do something similar to this drafting from the 12 spot.

From #7....

1 - Aaron Rodgers

2 - Larry Fitzgerald

3 - Victor Cruz

4 - Doug Martin

plus I kept Gronkowski from last year.

Doug Martin is finding his way on a lot of my teams this year

Our league is unique in that the first 7 rounds you have to pick one player from each of QB, RB, WR, K, DL, LB and DB so in theory everyone SHOULD get a decent player at each position. After round 7 you can pick whoever you want.

This year I didn't pick my RB until round 5 and wound up with McFadden...which was just foreshadowing for the rest of my draft - tons of high risk/high reward player so I will either be very good or very bad - nothing in between. Check out this rb risk pool I assembled - McFadden, Mathews, Sproles and Ryan Williams - not a workhorse in the bunch. Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky.

Our league went to 14 teams and I had the 9th pick in the first round, and LeSean McCoy was still there so I had to take him.

Just a warning to those waiting. In my real draft (12 team) this weekend, there were 5 teams that seemed to employ this strategy which in theory is good because it would mean more RBs falling. However, it also meant that many other teams snagged up valuable RBs that were slipping. I also meant those 5 teams that waited ended up fighting each other over the mid to late round RBs. 2 of the 5 teams ended up with really bad RBs. One guy has Pierre Thomas/Michael Bush/JStewart/Vareen. Another guy has Helu/Tate/Hillis/David Wilson.

5th pick PPR 12 teamer (8th year)

Rodgers

ADP

Welker (WR8)

Martin

Gates

Torrey

Desean

Most years I would take 3 RBs in the first 4. Lot of teams waited on RBs, and as a result I got tremendous value mid/late rounds.

Don't do it.

In our 14 team FBG staff league, I had the 14th pick and went QB/WR. I ended up with the following at RB . . .42. Jackson, Fred BUF RB70. Brown, Donald IND RB71. Spiller, C.J. BUF RB98. Ridley, Stevan NEP RB127. Vereen, Shane NEP RB182. Starks, James GBP RB

I kept three from prior year, so round four was my first pick and I drafted Doug Martin TB. Don't have the order in front of me, but ended up with:

Doug Martin (round 4)

Willis McGahee (6)

Michael Bush (9)

Pierre Thomas (15)

Kendall Hunter(17)

McGahee is going to be heavily involved in the Denver offense. I don't think he is a high end RB2, but he will put up RB2 numbers. Bush may split carries with Forte in a 40/60 split or better if the coach speak is legit. He is also being touted as the goal line back. Pierre Thomas is no slouch, and if Ivory gets traded, he has been serviceable as a RB3; if Ingram is injured at any point, he is a RB2. Same with Bush regarding Forte after his high use year. Bush becomes a low end RB1 if Forte gets injured. Hunter, dependent on Gore status, but worth stashing.

Roster

Eli Manning

Alex Smith

Russell Wilson

Doug Martin

Willis McGahee

Michael Bush

Pierre Thomas

Kendall Hunter

AJ Green

Dez Bryant

Steve Johnson

Lance Moore

Josh Gordon

John Baldwin

Aaron Hernandez

Kyle Rudolph

Mason Crosby

Wow, getting Fred Jackson that late really saved you. I can't believe he fell that far since I see him as a top 10 RB this year. He is healthy, looked sharp in preseason, and through 10 games was on pace for 2200 yards 10 TDs and 62 receptions.

12 team, ppr, 6 pts for all tds, start 1 qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, 1 te, 1 flex (rb, wr, te), 1 k, 1 d.

Drafting from the 3rd spot.

1.03 Rodgers. Took him insted of Mccoy.

2.10 Julio Jones. Was going to take Sproles but he went the pick before me.

3.03 Brandon Marshall.

4.10 Aaron Hernandez. Was going to take Doug Martin but he went 2 picks before me.

5.03 Steve Smith Car.

So needless to say, rb was very thin at this point, and I wound up with the following rbs.

6.10 Shonne Green

7.03 Jonathan Stewart

8.10 Mark Ingram

10.10 David Wilson

11.03 Ronnie Hillman

So I'm hoping one or both of the rookies pans out and Green can hold the starting gig all year. But a word of advice for everyone, if Shonne Green is the first rb you take, something went very wrong with your draft.

waited until the third and got Richardson at 3.6 and Sproles at 4.7 (ppr)
And Sproles at 4.7 in PPR???I suppose when things like this happen you can employ any strategy you'd like and be successful. It seems to me the best strategy is playing with dudes that have no idea what they're doing.

It's a 2QB league and that causes a lot of really good WRs to fall. Trust me, not a guppy league. There's also a .5 pt per rushing attempt that works against Sproles.

Sproles at 4.7 (ppr)
I hate the "I wish I was in your league" posts but ... I wish I was in your league.Sproles at 4.7 in PPR? That's beyond crazy. I think it's safe to say your league will be in the minority when it comes to how far Sproles will fall in PPR.

In a 12 team 0.5 PPR I waited until round 5 and took Kevin Smith - my league drafts RBs a TON early, so I stack myself at other positions and tend to play the wire for RBs.

In hindsight, I took Gates in round 4 and would have taken Reggie Bush there (I expected him to fall for some reason) if I had known how far Aaron Hernandez would end up falling (Round 6)

3rd Rd.Ended up with Shonn Greene and Donald Brown (4th) :bag:
shonn greene dropped out of sight in my league.12 team ppr redraft start 2+flexI went 8th and got f-jax in the 3rd.s-jax and sproles went right after me, and it's a return yardage league.passing on sproles might've been a mistake, but I had been targeting freddie.I didn't want rb in the 4th, but the next best picks at that spot would've been bradshaw, martin, bush, turner

Honestly I don't know how it really happened other than he's not a traditional rb and there was a glut of talent at wr in the fourth. It is a pretty competitive league.

I Like this roster you hit on just 1 RB and you are golden

Are we going to see the round-by-round results of this draft under the subscriber content? Drafting in a tough 14-teamer on Thursday and would love to see how this draft went.

10 team league that starts 3 WR, 2 RB, and 2 FLEX. Had #2 and went Megatron, AJ, and Andre Johnson. Got Sproles and Fred Jackson with the next 2 picks and couldn't be happier. This league is 1 pt ppr and return league.

5spot took 1mccoy 2forte 3aj green 4 dmartin 5stevejohnson got cutler and freeman late

can start 3rd rb in flex and only need 2 wr got spiller and hillman for backup

In a 2 QB league I waited till the 3rd round.

I was planning on the second, but Vick fell to late in round 2.

So my first 5 rounds were.

Brees

Vick

Demarco Murray

Jimmy Graham

Trent Richardson

Later picked up

Peyton Hillis

Kevin smith

And backup QB Carson Palmer(only aloud 3qb and 4rb max on a roster)

I was in the 12th spot in a non ppr league.Decided to mix it up and went TE/TE to start. Took my RBs at the 3/4 turn (richardson and sjax)Ended up overall withRichardsonJacksonIngramWilsonRodgersJunk

I waited till the 3rd-4th. Early mocks I was able to get S-Jax and Amad Bradshaw then, not now. More like Reggie Bush, Shonne Green and Donald Brown.

3rd rd in a 10 team PPR. I got ADP.

ETA:

Kept: A Rodgers

2: A Johnson

3: ADP

4: F Jackson

5: No pick (Traded away in-season last year)

6: D Jackson

I don't mind this start. I was also the last to take a TE and got Ol' reliable Tony G as well. Rounded out my WR's with M Floyd & K Britt. The rest of my RB's are Beanie Wells, Evan Royster, Isaac Redman, and Kendall Hunter. I have Schaub as a QB2, as this is the last year I can keep Rodgers. I will be looking to deal him to the highest bidder at the trade deadline. (League based in Wisconsin)

12 team, PPR, 3RR - started with Graham, Welker, A.J. Green

4.11 Reggie Bush

6.11 Donald Brown

9.02 Isaac Redman

10.11 Pierre Thomas

12.11 Kendall Hunter

15.02 Vick Ballard

I had the 5th pick in a 12 man PPR. I debated Calvin vs. DMC for about a week and just had my gut tell me DMC. So:

1. (5) Darren McFadden RB

2. (20) A.J. Green WR

3. (29) Percy Harvin WR

4. (44) Doug Martin RB

5. (53) Antonio Gates TE

6. (68) Peyton Hillis RB

Pretty happy with how it turned out, but I need DMC to stay healthy.

Round 6, pick 7 - bradshaw (td heavy league)

Brady/fitz/nelson/gates/dez before then

Bunch of mediocre rb upside hopes after (d.will, wells, tate, d.brown)
