How long do you think the lockout will last? (1 Viewer)

When do think the NFL season will start?

I'm pretty sure I voted on no season this year, but the poll shows otherwise. Setting my expectations low and letting my pessimism reign supreme.

IMO the odds are pretty high that the lockout lasts until the judge rules after the hearing on April 6th. Not sure if that's a few days or a few weeks, but it'll definitely be by the end of the draft. Would guess that there's something like a 90% chance the lockout ends at that point.

Well, that's pretty true but not sure how long the appeals would take. And even if the Players win, how does the league decide how to proceed with free agency and the like without a new CBA?This is what PFT has to say about teh April 6th hearing:
1. April 6 looms large. On March 11, the NFLPA decertified, and the NFL responded by locking out the players. Decertification included a lawsuit aimed at blocking the lockout, specifically with a request that the court lift the lockout now, while the lawsuit unfolds. The hearing will happen on April 6, in a Minnesota federal court. At some point after the hearing ends, Judge Susan Nelson will issue a ruling. The party that loses will file an emergency appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and possibly to the U.S. Supreme Court. At some point, likely before June 1, the process will be finalized. If the players win, the lockout will end. If the league wins, the lockout will continue.Though it’s in the fans’ interests for the players’ position to prevail, a far better outcome would be a negotiated compromise that lays the foundation for a return to long-term labor peace.

To the last possible minute that the OWNERS can make another dollar.

If they can squeeze the players into submission early, they will end it early.

If they cant, it will go as far as it possibly can until they will start losing big chunks of money -- the latest being about 2 weeks into the season.

My bet? Either 2nd or 3rd preseason game, provided the courts don't change the landscape.

100 Days until Scheduled Opener

It’s fitting, we suppose, that the nation emerges from the three-day Memorial Day weekend with a proverbial splash of cold water regarding the lingering lockout. As Adam Schefter of ESPN points out on his Twitter page, only 100 days remain until the Saints and Packers are scheduled to square off at Lambeau Field on Thursday, September 8 to launch the 2011 season. In three days, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit will hear arguments regarding the question of whether the lockout should be lifted. If it is, it will then become likely if not certain that the 2011 season will be played. If, as currently expected, the lockout remains in place, the season will start on time only if the two sides work out a new labor deal.Regardless of whether a given observer is pro-player, pro-owner, or pro-they-all-should-go-to-hell, we all should agree that both sides need to commit to meaningful, continuous negotiations, if the Eighth Circuit allows the lockout to remain in place. And the process should commence with the players responding to the offer(s) made by the NFL on March 11 and May 16.

depends on what this Circuit court rules.

If they allow the lockout, I really think we miss games and possibly a season, even though I suspect alot of players will start to freak out and want to get something done.
