How many fantasy football leagues do you think exist...? (1 Viewer)

Just pondering this question.

1 million?

10 million?

20 million?

When you take into account people who play multiple leagues, different types of fantasy football contests (like the subscriber one here - that would count in my book). I've got to think that someone/some firm has calcuated this just based on business value. Any one have an idea or care to venture a guess?

I'd say 10M people play FF so with an average 12/league and 2.3 leagues per owner we're at a little less than 3M leagues. Seems a bit high, though. I'd bet it's between 1M-2M.

10 Million is an extremely low estimate. Most of the "studies" on the effects of FF on workplace productivity I've seen over the years put it somewhere between 20-30 million, although they usually admit that's more of a ballpark figure. According to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association in this article there are 24.3 million players (not sure where they get that figure from).

what's the percentage of males in the country that play FFL? more than or less than 50%? My guess is to take that number and multiply it by 5.

ill go with 35m

most leagues have 10 players. many have more so i will go with an average of 11 players per league

i'd say 20% play in more than 1 league and 25% of those play in more than 2

based on that, the average player plays in 1.25 leagues

so (35,000,000/11)*1.25 = 3,987,272 ff leagues
