Take a break from steroids and cheating and think back to the fun times...

We took my 3 year old nephew to his first football game during the preseason.

So did you like the game? - "Yes"

What was your favorite part? - "The airplanes"

(We were in the opposite endzone from the flight path for the airport)

So how old were you when you attended your first game in each of the major sports?

What do you remember from those first games?

If you have kids, when did you take them to their first game?

What did they think?

My Dad took the family to a convention in Pittsburgh in 1960. We saw the Pirates play the Giants at Forbes Field. I remember Smoky Burgess hit a triple. Would have been an inside the park HR for anyone else.

Went to Brewer games pretty much since birth. I probably knew how to keep book before I knew the alphabet. Other than that, it was the 3 foot long licorice whips.

Oh yeah, and the smell around County Stadium.

NFL - Week one. Monday night. Redskins. Cowboys. RFK Stadium. It was awesome. Redskins won (because of superiority, not because Emmitt was holding out ). Rest of the season sucked, though.

MLB - I just happened to be in Minneapolis and we went to a Twins game. I was 14 or 15. I don't really remember much about it.

NBA - My dad took me to see the Bullets host the Lakers on my 10th birthday. Oddly enough, Magic, Kareem, etc. rolled the Bullets.

NHL - Don't remember how old I was. I think it was a couple years after the NBA game. Caps vs., um, uh, Boston, I think. 1-1 tie.

I now have Skins season tickets. I've taken my kids to preseason games. I'll take two of them to their first regular season game next week when they host the Giants. They really enjoyed the preseason games. My seats are right under some of the stadium lights so my daughter remembers all the big bugs flying all around.
