How safe is your home from bad guys? (1 Viewer)

My PitBull, "Maneater" is in the house to greet anyone who comes in while I am gone. I await a fresh corpse daily...

There was a show on TV in the gym that I saw several times where it was ex-thieves and they would have some family volunteer who thought they had a safe house. The ex-thieves would break in easily every single time while the family watched on hidden cameras. Then later the thieves would explain how to improve their security.

Matches up with what this guy was saying.

He also acknowledged that most of the security measures you have DO keep out "common" thieves, like the neighbor's kid or some junkie looking for some quick cash.

I have a security system. It certainly isn't foolproof but it keeps the honest burglars out.
You didn't listen.
No, I can't on this machine :(
:goodposting:Going to need a transcript.
If a bad guy wants to rob you he will unless:Somebody is homeYou are really poorYou are really rich and have private securityThe guy claims to have robbed over 3000 houses in the STL area without getting caught. It's a pretty interesting listen.

If this is from 10 years ago I could see this as not a concern but...

Web cam streaming and recorded on the web down??

I know someone that has his setup to Text him if any motion is detected while he is gone.

I do agree with him though on "marking your territory".

We have all our "Worthwhile" items marked. Once where you can see it and another place that isn't so obvious.

Half the time I forget to lock the doors. Double sliding glass doorwall in the back..anybody that wants in would get in pretty easy.

This, TBH.People break into bank vaults for Christ sake. You think you're getting your house more secure than that?
:goodposting: Reminds me of IT security. 'Oh, we're fine, we have a firewall and anti-virus'. Well, banks and governments have some of the best security guys and highest budgets but they still get hacked. Your company/home will never be secure.

No security is good enough.

:goodposting: Reminds me of the time my friend said that I couldn't go into that women's locker room.

I would think that if a robber sees cameras, he assumes there are valuable items inside.
My doberman, who doesn't take food from strangers, has a camera mounted on his head next to the laser beam.

I prefer to not worry about it. If I get robbed, I'll deal with it.

I have a buddy in the Dominican who has a three guys who guard his house 24/7 with AK-47s. You could always import some affordable gun-thugs.

You can obviously train a dog to many different levels but most dogs, when you enter a home without the owners there, run and climb on the bed in the master-bedroom and bark completely frightened; you walkover and close bedroom door....don't ask  .

My dogs would treat a burglar differently. The one would follow them around and assist them where needed, the other one would bark and then hide.

ah, here it is: It Takes A Thief on Discovery Channel: http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/ittakesathief/about/about.html
My favorite bit was that the burglar's "signature" on his crimes (before he got caught and went straight) was that he always, always stole remote controls, "just to piss people off".
You are already stealing people's stuff, no need to be a #### about it.
:goodposting: When my house was broken into a few years ago they stole about $8,000 of stuff. I got home first and when my wife got home she went to the beer fridge and they had taken all our beer but two. Her quote about the thieves, " They probably figured," This dudes going to need a drink!".
