How sick is Kellen Winslow? (1 Viewer)

I know he was downgraded to probable due to illness, but anyone know how sick he is?

A friend of mine in Cleveland said the rumor is a staph infection, but who knows.

Staph infections seem to be common for the Cleveland Browns.

If I were a NFL player and my team is trading me to Cleveland, I would be terrified. Very terrified.

They got to nuke the Browns' facility and build a new one. :moneybag:

I heard on ESPN's field pass he was taken to the hospital. I am hoping to get a FBG's update - so I can act accordingly with a backup TE.

There s no place it says he was taken to the hospital can you read.He went to the hospital by himself like you and me would do when they have a bad cold .
My apologies if I wasn't clear. The first portion of my post states I heard on ESPN that Winslow was actually taken to the hospital. The second portion of my post has a link to a story that has him going to a doctor, and was unrelated to the first portion of my post.Maybe ESPN just used the term hospital, maybe the doctor was at the hospital, I don't know. What I do know, however, is that he has not practiced in two days, and the team is being pretty hush hush about whatever he has.

I never go to the hospital when I have a bad cold. I stay in bed and drink plenty of fluids  Preferably beer.

I was originally unconcerned when I heard this news but that has since changed. I'm puzzled by Crennel's vagueness. If Winslow had a normal flu or cold I would think Crennel would just say that instead of stating he would have no comment until the doctors checked him out further.

His gonorrhea has a staff infection perhaps?

You go to the hospital for a bad cold? That must annoy the hell out of your husband.

We are unlikely to know exactly what he has until later today or tomorrow, but I am betting we get a pretty good word on what it is medically. I would think they have to report what the sickness is to the NFL if it looks like it'll keep him out of the game and they knew beforehand (unlike the Schaub situation last week). Plus reporters are pretty good at getting an idea of what it is from team physicians

Either way, illnesses that cause you to be hospitalized for several days can't be beneficial to play on - I have to imagine he would be extremely weakened and if it is infectious, I have to imagine they don't want him on the field around the other players.

I hate this as Winslow is my only TE, I played (and luckily won) with a zero last week b/c I can't really afford to drop anyone else, so I am hoping for a speedy recovery, or at least news far enough in advance so I can prepare on Sunday morning. I guess I can hope that Kevin Boss remains on the WW till game time and see if I even need to replace Winslow . . .

Oh, and I can read: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3635743
Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow was hospitalized with an undisclosed illness and could miss Monday night's game against the New York Giants.

Coach Romeo Crennel said Friday that Winslow was kept overnight at the Cleveland Clinic. Winslow practiced Monday but had been feeling ill for several days. The team sent him to the doctor Thursday for further tests and evaluation.

I'm worried about a staph infection related to his earlier motorcycle accident that's been growing inside his body unchecked for some time now. We could be looking at a possible leg amputation here.

TBH, I'm not taking any chances. I just unloaded him in 6 of my leagues.

A league source tells Profootballtalk.com that Kellen Winslow's "unspecified illness" is swollen ####.

Yikes. No one has ever accused Winslow of lacking big cajones, and they certainly won't now. Okay, probably a matter to joke about. A team source reportedly told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that they still expect Winslow to play. Winslow practiced Monday, but has since been held out of workouts. Cautiously keep Winslow in your lineup and wait for more news. Oct. 10 - 2:05 pm et

What in gods names was he doing during his bye week?

I'm sorry Bon Scott, but I'm pretty sure he's got the biggest balls of them all.

I know the league likes to keep it family friendly, so I suggest letters to the Pittsburgh and Baltimore public address system operators guys banning track 3 on Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.

:goodposting: :lmao: First thing I thought of. Well, second actually. First thing I thought of was "How does one get swollen ####?" Poor guy will hear about this the rest of his career.

 um, after reading all of this, i wasted little time in signing zach miller from my league's free agent list.

Surprised Ball Cancer has not been mentioned yet..........................
Holy cow, was this just a guess? PFT noted in their article this afternoon that grapefruit balls is one of the symptoms for testicular cancer.

Winslow to spend another night in the Clinic

Posted by Mary Kay Cabot October 10, 2008 16:03PM

Browns tight end Kellen Winslow will remain in the Cleveland Clinic for a second night tonight with an undisclosed illness, according to a Browns spokesperson.

Winslow is still listed as questionable for Monday night's game against the New York Giants, meaning there is a 50 percent chance he will play.

The Browns had hoped he would be released on Friday and possibly return to practice on Saturday.

Returning from the bye week Winslow had appeared healthy at Monday's workout, but missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, then was hospitalized Thursday evening.
I guess he will be in there another night.

Way to break news, Johnny D.

82 receps and 1100 is pretty sick in my opinion. Course he and his old man's racism is also kinda sick as well.

He'll be fine. Worse case, he gets some fluid injection and games up with a nice 7/80/1 for Winslow owners

(don't have him this year)

Martin RuckerShhhh....
Long term, yes. This week, no."Rookie TE Martin Rucker (knee) has resumed practicing on a limited basis, but Browns coach Romeo Crennel says Rucker isn't ready to play in a game. If Kellen Winslow (questionable, illness) has to sit out Week 6, Steve Heiden would start and Darnell Dinkins would be Cleveland's No. 2 tight end."

That "facility" you speak of is the Cleveland Clinic. In other words...ain't gonna happen.
