How To Be A Trump Supporter Here (1 Viewer)

Looking back...it appears it was a question to me...in a post where I clearly state she was wrong to say half.  So I am left to  wonder why was the question even asked?
I brought it up to show how blanket labeling works at the heart of the Democratic party in 2016 when Hillary was the face and voice and I submit its gotten worse, not better

It ties into this thread because of how Trump supporters and voters and/or conservatives are seen and targeted. To be fair, its the other way too but this political forum is majoirty left and its easy to pile on the conservatives who post.

Hillary very much did - she would have said all evil people were disgusting but instead, she targeted Trump voters as deplorables, half of us and she tried to retract later in a weak failed attempt

We all know what it was - it was blanket labeling of 30 million people as being the worst possible of humans
I don't believe she ever said no democrats are like that Please link to where she ever said none vote Democrat.  Even not incliding democrats that does not make her saying no democrats have those deplorable characteristics ir are “deplorable”.

You can get hung up in half...which i have already said she was wrong to do...but she clearly said who was in that group that she called deplorable.

This isn’t productive at all though and pointless now...so Im done...

Holy hyperbole Batman!

Edit:  And Trump can demonize and disparage any group or person he wants with essentially no push back from his base.  But Hillary's comments are the worst comments ever it seems.

Never Trumpers are human scum according to POTUS.

She didn’t clearly say who was in that group....after she got called out she back peddled. She was clear to say half of Trump supporters are deplorable. Trump’s comment wasn’t referring to Democrats.

You're correct. She said something that was a bad generalization. Trump said something that some would consider worse, since Hillary listed the qualifier as being racists, sexist, etc. Trumps qualifier? Not supporting him ever.

That leaves us with the question. Which do you find worse, someone that has never supported Trump, or someone that is a racists, sexist, homophobic, etc?

What? That’s a question you need to figure out. If you think anyone here supports and are racists, sexist, homophobia, and all the other negative things that’s just wrong.

oh I've never said that - Trump is pathetic in many ways and we can discuss them too if you'd like. The point was how Trump supporter/voters are viewed and how the DNC built it up with their 2016 campaign and what Hillary said

"You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic -- you name it." - Hillary

Hillary said, in order to be deplorable you have to be one of those other qualifiers. Not just a Trump supporter. 1+1=deplorable.

Trump gave no other qualifier. Just exercising your patriotic right to support whomever you want, makes you the worst.

Exercising the right to support whomever we want “makes you the worst”?

Hillary said half of Trump supporters are the basket of deplorables and you and a few others support defend that.

What if Trump said 90 percent of Hillary supporters are scum?  Would that make it ok since he was only talking about the ones who are scum?

I have no love for Hillary and what she said was wrong but Trump supporters crying foul and offended by this yet still support Trump is the very definition of partisan blinders.

No no no...there is nothing correct about claiming she wasn’t specific about who was in the half.  She mentioned exactly who she out as deplorables.  And in the next paragraph of her speech she said who was in the other half.  If we are going to continue this irrelevant discussion of Hillary...we should at least have ot straight and do it honestly.

Yes, according to Trump. Never supporting him is his only qualifier. Isn't that the same as supporting whomever you want?

But, according to Hillary, being a racists, sexist, homophobic AND a Trump supporter makes you deplorable. Remove any of the underlined and they aren't deplorable. It wasn't a nice thing to say. But, the qualifier makes a difference.

What if Trump said 90 percent of Hillary supporters are scum?  Would that make it ok since he was only talking about the ones who are scum?
What if he didn't? It doesn't matter. We are operating off of the facts we have. His qualifier was never Trumpers = those that have never supported him are human scum. Would you rather your daughter marry a never Trumper or a sexist deplorable? As an African American in this country and find yourself in a dark alley late at night, are you hoping the group of men walking towards you are never Trumpers or a racists?

This isn't a difficult thing to understand. Calling someone deplorable or human scum is 5th grade activity and shouldn't even be part of our conversation about a POTUS. But, the qualifier matters.

What if Trump said 90 percent of Hillary supporters are scum?  Would that make it ok since he was only talking about the ones who are scum?
No...nor os that comparable really to what she said.  And he already called Never Trampers that...and it was worse.  There was no qualifier if being racist or whatever...simply being against him made them scum.

I know there are only 60 days left to make our case – and don't get complacent; don't see the latest outrageous, offensive, inappropriate comment and think, "Well, he's done this time." We are living in a volatile political environment.

You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. (Laughter/applause) Right? (Laughter/applause) They're racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic – Islamophobic – you name it. And unfortunately, there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people – now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets their offensive hateful mean-spirited rhetoric. Now, some of those folks – they are irredeemable, but thankfully, they are not America.

But the "other" basket – the other basket – and I know because I look at this crowd I see friends from all over America here: I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas and — as well as, you know, New York and California — but that "other" basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures; and they're just desperate for change. It doesn't really even matter where it comes from. They don't buy everything he says, but — he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won't wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they're in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well.

Never supporting him is much different than a terrible generalization that HALF of his supporters are deplorable and saying they are racist, sexist, homophonic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic.

Your splitting hairs here.  Both of them called large groups of people awful names. Neither is acceptable end of story.  They did the same thing.

They are both generalizations that don't move the country forward. You take it as she is saying the supporters are deplorable if they have one of those qualifiers. I take it as they have to have one of those qualifiers to be deplorable.

People only had two choices when the casted the vote.  Does Vegas shame the people who bet on red vs. black?
While I agree with your premise in theory it is more complicated then that.  Nuisance and context are important.

Yes...first basket...racists etc...

and then she describes other Trump supporters...many of the same things you hear why people here liked him.

It was incredibly dumb to say in the way she did...and to say half. But her comment has been spun and misconstrued constantly and we see it here in this thread.

You mean the psychology of serving people who you deplore?
No.  That’s a completely different conversation and not the one that was going on.  You said you have to separate the person from the candidate they vote for.  And again I agree, mostly, but there is a line at some point.

She said 50% of Trump supporters are deplorable. You and a few others keep spinning.

This all started when someone stated Hillary called us deplorable.  In a thread about bringing the a game...we have multiple pages debating what an irrelevant person said.  Pretty much everyone agrees she was dumb to say what she did.  Yet this is what gets debated.

Yep, the other 50% are “desperate for change”.
The real question they should be trying to answer, since numbers are growing daily, are where do Independents fall on either Trump or Hillary's scale.

Then why have you responded 145 times to say the exact same thing?

You have defended everything she said. You are unreal.

I am an independent and confident that none of the name calling refers to me.
I'm an independent and I'm confident that, if I'm a racist, sexist, homophobic, or any number of other horrible things, I'm deplorable regardless of who I vote for in 2020.

I have no love for Hillary and what she said was wrong but Trump supporters crying foul and offended by this yet still support Trump is the very definition of partisan blinders.
I'm not crying foul

I'm saying that the DNC and Hillary put on a political campaign that spilled way past 2016 by labeling anyone and everyone who supports or voted for Trump as being deplorable

This nation is more divided than anytime in my 50 years alive ......... it will get worse unless people stop following the pathetic lead that the GOP and DNC elected set in place and I mean almost ALL of them including Trump and Pelosi and AOC and the media as well

I shouldn't really comment too much in this thread as I'm not a Trump supporter, but in re-reading this quote I can't help but recall Reagan's "three halves of the budgetary pie".   That is Hillary's first basket of deplorables is a half, then there is the second basket, second half of those "just desperate for change", and then there is that "other half" of those that were anti Hillary, or for Supreme Court justices, or for tax cuts, or getting rid of ObamaCare, or whatever.   The only real differences being that Hillary forgot to mention this third half and Reagan's pie with three halves was a skit by Rich Little on the First Family Rides Again album.  Other than that...
