How tough is it to recover from a groin injury? (1 Viewer)

It really depends on the severity of the groin injury. Strain versus tear.

There's more information on SJax's groin injury than Maroney's so it's tough to say which is worse.

There were reports that SJax's groin had a tear 40% of the way through it.

There hasn't been any information on Maroney's groin so it's hard to say how had he's hurt first and foremost and if he'll be limited once he takes the field, again.

Being a runningback, you'd have to assume that a RB should not come back until he is 100% healthy, especially with a sprained/torn groin as the risk of re-aggravating it would be pretty high given how they plant, cut and sprint.

Nagging injury that will probably affect the rest of the season. Had one in HS and just kept reaggravating it. took about 3 mo to get over it.

Keep in mind these guys benefit from the best trainers and sports therapists around. I am guessing their treatment alone can cut recovery times in half compared to what some of us average Joe's would endure.

groin injuries can take months to fully recover from. Id say up to 4 months to fully heal. Ive done it several times playing, never torn, but its a pain to simply lift the leg, let alone high step, cut, stop, start, reverse field, dive, etc. And I dont care how much therapy these guys get, those trainers cant get inside the leg and make that thing heal. it just takes time. but adversely, the players usually dont give it enough time and they try and rush back to contribute which only makes it worse. as youre seeing with Jackson and Maroney, both teams are doing exactly what they need to do with these guys. theyre shelfing them for extended time and giving them the rest they need. Ive seen video of the recent 'practice' Maroney's been doing, and Im not impressed by it because he hasnt really been doing anything. he's basically been running plays, without much typical RB movement, without any real defensive pressure. Its the moves these guys make trying to elude pressure that strain the groin. And Maroney and Jackson are 2 of the more 'active' runners as opposed to between the tackles 'grinders' like Benson or Lendale White who are just looking to get through a hole. If Jackson really does have a 40% tear, then he just needs to shut it down. Maroney's doesnt sound as severe. But Id say he should be given rest for atleast another couple of weeks before he gets back out there full speed.
