Yeah but does that mean normal people take 2 months off work to go to rehab once a year? This is getting silly. Hes had months in the off season to go this even if it was the case, which it isn't.
Even if he didn't relapse it shows he's still in an extremely fragile state.  He's taking a "break" right before training camp, that is an awful time to miss.  Shocked that some people are blowing this off like it's nothing.  Something obviously isn't right with him.

Again, this is just my opinion, but I don't believe that it matters how many "years" into a sobriety program Gordon has under his belt.  From what we are seeing, it is still about staying sober today for him (as it is with most recovering addicts), right now and for now on.  It is a difficult adjustment.  But, to answer, he should be in rehab the rest of his life.

And as far as I know, most facilities test for drugs.  Facilities are also controlled environments where access to drugs is severely restricted (usually).

You keep responding as if you are an expert on rehab but it appears to me that you don't know anything. My brother was in rehab 10 years ago and I do know what's involved. He still goes to meetings every day. What's not involved is going away for a month or two randomly to do rehab again just in case. Nobody knows what's going on but the stuff you are posting seems crazy from my experience.

I'm sure places do testing but we are talking about NFL testing here on this forum.

@voiceofunreason  First off and most important my apologies for slightly appearing uncaring to discuss such a personal issue!  In your opinion IF we're to believe the NFL and especially the Browns are quite aware of the potential for relapse especially within the first yr of treatment  Isn't it almost fair to suggest that possibly someone such as a sponsor could have grown suspicious concerning Flash?  Possibly addressing such concerns to the Browns office  IF further asked for input I would suspect unimpeded attendance to such meetings be quite paramount   The situation could already consist of such things as Flash having an issue for a Tuesday meeting and deciding to double up on Thursday  Not a very good practice in of itself considering the pitfalls of the difference between committing and actually performing  However, combined with the time and effort commitment required of TC it might be asking too much

No, it doesn't mean that. But a lot of "normal people" without the resources Gordon has relapse and have trouble holding down jobs, so I'm not sure its relevant.

Can someone try an explain what they believe is an average day for such an athlete with a physique like Flash?  I mean I sorta picture waking to the tune of a 5 mile run  Spending possible an hour prepping breakfast and actually eating boiled steel oats etc.  Couple hours in the gym almost daily  Maybe only 45 minutes lifting but extra time utilizing such things as massage beds etc.  I'm just figuring that with time and travel attending these meetings could be asking a bit much while also attending TC  Possibly already being somewhat difficult without such a burden?

Now when I was a kid I fondly recall John Riggins swigging beers post-practice with a dedicated group not to far from the practice field in some shed area

Agree.  He's played 6 games in the past 3 years.  He doesn't need TC or practice.

Wait...didn't you say "I'm a buyer. This is GOOD news for anyone who understands the treatment program he is in." in an previous post?
Yes.  Stand by it.  What I meant is in regard to his proactively getting support when he needed.  To me, in light of what we know, this is GOOD news.  I am a buyer of Gordon in my leagues.

Exactly some must think spending half his day sitting around seeking medical attention is gonna help the Browns   Maybe its caused from too much TV and/or talking w/o listening Dudes far from a camp body  Coach's will already be limiting his reps so any sign of a sprain means R n' R which could jeopardize pre-Season  No need to discuss the importance of such games right

oops I just reread what ya posted  You attempting sarcasm?  As if to say Flash may have forgotten how to run routes or catch a spiral  By chance, you scream No No No when a player comes out of retirement as an old man

So people with enough money book rehab for a few weeks any time they feel an urge? Okay.
Don't get where you're going with this. Is it some type of conspiracy theory angle? I can't fathom what you think is going on here.

Note: I'm not arguing that this is necessarily a good thing for Gordon's prospects this year, I just think we can take the explanation at face value. just wondering what people suspicious of the current explanation think is going on. What's the leading theory.

I've kept this guy rostered and was beginning to feel hopeful but this is a very bad sign. The guy is sick and I give him the benefit of the doubt that he is putting his health and sobriety as 1st priority over everything but it's not looking good for his foreseeable future when he's on the road, banged up a bit, team losing, pressure to win and perform and all other kinds of excused to slip up.

From a selfish FF standpoint, I hope he can flash in a few preseason games or even play well in some regular season games if he makes it that far and I'll be looking to get a 1st rd out of him but right now it's not looking good.

Look, I’m not going to downplay his mistakes, but he was a dumb kid that was partying and failed a drug test It put him in the program where he compounded his mistakes, with his last offense I believe having a glass of wine on the team plane after a game, which I can put on the team as much as him. Who let him have wine (manziel I think, seriously). He put a brilliant future at risk which speaks to the level of addiction/ignorance/stupidity but he smoked weed and drank some wine, probably what a number of you are doing while you read this. Coming back to training camp, being around all these guys, a lot of them probably going out a bit, lots of temptation. Also once the season starts you’re kind of busy, and can’t just take off to the facility you’ve been working with. I should probably go make some offers, because I think this is perfectly reasonable and I don’t think he will have a hard time at this point avoiding the booze/weed.

Unfortunately it’s not as simple as just being a dumb kid who made a couple mistakes for Gordon. I encourage anyone who hasn’t already to read a little on his background- growing up poor, around drugs/alcohol, death, living in fear not knowing if hw would see tomorrow. Certainly not expecting to live to see 18 as he’s been quoted as saying so he’d numb the pain with drugs and booze. Father not in the picture. It’s easy to judge from where we are in our lives but we’ve never walked a step in his shoes, much less a few miles. Beating that kind of addiction and overcoming those mental and emotional hurdles all while in the public eye can’t be a small task.

It's clear from your posts you have zero clue how mental health works.
Listen I believe VOU was attempting to be sarcastic  Sad part is he's actually correct by accident, incident, and/or otherwise  Because of the premise "I used to do a little but a little wouldn't do it So a little got more and more" Assuming their not at rock bottom they may still fancy the premise of not having such a need  Basically when the user decides its too much they can decide to clean up for a period of time  Now if a person has monies  I see no reason other than publicity that they would opt for cold turkey alone

/Edit  Fact is that folks with money are viewed as kinda tight which may also be the logic behind hopes to cutting down  So yeah maybe rehab appears more an expense or luxury that isn't really a value  So while they may be spending $1K a day  $$ in the Bahama's for two weeks may appear money better spent than two weeks of rehab for $$$

Fitting.  Some would say Josh Gordon has an 'Appetite For Destruction'.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the "vibe" around the Browns is that Josh Gordon will rejoin the team after a "brief respite."
His statement says he won't be there for the start of training camp not that he'll miss it. This seems like the reasonable conclusion without more info.

Alright @Joe Bryant  Lets hear the real Guru's take...   Mind sharing your gut feelings?  Flash could be back in three days...  Month...   Is there a chance that the Browns are possibly entertaining a trade proposal?  Any prior foregone conclusions as to the Browns future plans w/ JG   Feelings strong enough for the risks to outweigh rewards at what appears to be current ADP in std./redraft  Browns and/or otherwise do you feel Josh Gordon is possibly a Top 5 NFL talent

Okay, please let me know where I’m wrong in any of the posts. I honestly find people very stupid or misinformed in here if they believe that after a couple of years into sobriety that Gordon needs two months to go back into rehab for no reason, it’s just part of normal rehab. He can go to meetings nearly every day and he has 7 months away from football to do anything he wants. The idea that former  addicts can’t function in that environment without two months off after OTAs makes no sense to me. I’m sure the team would provide in with time during the day to go to meetings or whatever he needs to do.

But yes, if they believe it it really doesn’t matter but I admit when people are so unable to admit the obvious I find it annoying as crap.

Is there news that says Gordon is going into rehab for two months?

Thanks @Dismattle   i have to be honest in I don't know any more than you guys. My gut says this is not good though. At least not good for Gordon on the field. It's like a good thing for Gordon the human, which is of course most important, as it's showing he's serious about taking care of himself. It does look like trade talk is in the air. But everything else I'm hearing is Gordon's looking great. Addiction stuff is super tough. Bottom line is I'm worried about a 5 on a scale of 1 (not worried) to 10 (panic). Hoping for the best for him and hoping we know more soon.

Really sucks because he seems like a good person.  All his teammates love him and I’ve never heard any stories of him being a jerk.
My brother is a good person. Until he's back on the junk. Can't depend on him to greet the sunrise from day to day. Only an insane person would expect more..For a hobby that exceedingly crunches numbers it's fascinating to me that people rely on the most unreliable facet of our society.

Partying and doing drugs with Johnny manziel while abandoning his baby and his baby mother is a good person?  He got thrown in jail for not taking a paternity test that proved that he was the father of a child. While the mother of his child was on and off welfare raising his kid--he was traveling around partying with Manziel. It certainly sounds like he has turned his life around--and I'm rooting for him big time--but let's not paint him like he's some saint.  This guy has hurt many people besides himself with his addiction issues.  If this guy needs to miss camp or miss a season to get himself right--good lord let it happen.

I knew about hanging with Manziel but had no idea about the other stuff.  SoulFly must have influenced me into thinking he was an angel.  I stand corrected.

“Thrown in jail” is a bit hyperbolic as that never happened but yeah not the best of looks for him. Now it appears he’s a big part of his daughter’s life which is great to see.

Hi @JetMaxx  Can you elaborate on this?
Referencing the aspect of addiction in the evaluation of Gordon. All the number crunching in the world can’t predict when and where his demons will reappear. I suppose his value is somewhat of calculated risk but I don’t know how one can sufficiently make that calculation

better the devil you know than the devil you don't

Nobody can predict a player injury  Most folks probably cannot calculate the injury being career ending  Only some will know if its Season ending

Josh Gordon is providing us real context (NFL Drug Policy) whether we choose to try an understand it or not is up to the individual  For anyone who deems Flash to possess elite status/potential they may care to consider how much more appreciate and/or thankful they should feel for the player  It is a choice to be disappointed about TC

Now I do not care to point the finger at Dez Bryant for very much an example of a real concern  But it seems quite shortsighted to not grasp the simple concept of the straw that broke the camels back  Players can go from expected to be quite good too great and even obtain a known value of an elite status warranting the opportunity to become quite the prima donna  The problem is that at some point the player can become labeled  Personally do not like hearing the term for some players of the past but its locker room cancer

Basically if you think its unwise to try an crunch numbers because of celebratory wine to the lips?  Hope you at least take a moment to apprehend such acts as walking past kids seeking just an autograph

You are right---he never got thrown in jail.  He basically abandoned his daughter and his babys mother and ignored court orders for paternity tests until a court put out a warrant for his arrest for not complying and taking a paternity test.  He basically only became involved in the life of his daughter and his babys mother because a court effectively forced him to not ignore the issue.   If he's a big part of his daughters life now-then god bless the entire situation.    You can only move forward in life--so hopefully he's done so.   With that said--I do think that there are a lot of people (especially in the fantasy community) that think that Gordon is a great player that is just a victim of an overly harsh NFL substance abuse policy.  While the NFL substance abuse policy might be flawed or hypocritical--I assure you that Gordons past decision making and actions are exponentially more flawed than the NFL's policy.   He might be a good person now--but he wasn't a good person then.  I have a sister that nearly died from substance abuse issues.  Thank god she's better now and she's an amazingly different and better person now versus what she was back then.  She gives me hope that Gordon can over come this--but it's not easy--and the odds of relapsing are exceptionally high (no pun intended).

(fwiw) It was also reported that JG was unaware of such an order  Had the woman attempted discussion on the subject prior to the order  Was anyone witness to said discussion? The bigger question for JG being if he, in fact, knew his status at the time?  Hard to find much clarity without knowing the actual circumstance  No news is good news so I would figure the child is both loved and being cared for  (might be time to move on)

A dude in the middle of a paternity battle with a legal team was completely unaware of numerous court orders--but somehow became instantly aware of his obligations the moment the court got fed up with his antics and issued an arrest warrant?  If you believe that--then so be it.  I know how addicts act--and they all play dumb as an excuse. They blame situations more than they blame themselves. I fully believe that he was absolutely aware of his situation but actively chose to ignore it.   The only reason why he would claim he was unaware is so that he doesn't look like the garbage human being he was at that point of his life.  If things have changed and he's clean and is actively involved in the lives of his family in a positive manner--that's awesome. I'm truly hoping and praying for him and a postive result.  I however make no excuses for addicts during their addiction phase. It does me no favors and it certainly does them no favors.

I really wasn't attempting to make excuses in the fact that his attorney stated that JG was unaware of any court order testing  Regardless of any unproven information that anyone cares to believe is quite irrelevant at this time  JG needs to maintain focus on today because he cannot change the past nor should he be overly concerned with his future which he has limited control over  Obviously, some may stick their nose in the air caring very little to give the man the time of day  It's funny when these folks point though because of all the fingers pointing back at themselves
