How would you change the Constitution? (1 Viewer)

Erase the 2nd Amendment.  When enacted, we just came out of an armed insurrection against the government - presumably anticipating the potential for additional military engagement.  No need to make this a "right" - which is not the same as taking away your guns.  Truthfully, the 2nd Amendment has lost a bit of its teeth over the years - the government can and will regulate who can own a gun, and what type of gun they may own.  Take it out of the constitution, and legislate it appropriately.  Treat it like an automobile - anyone can purchase, but you have to be of a certain age to operate, you have to hold a valid license that demonstrates even a modicum of competency, you have to register it annually, and in many states you have to get it inspected to ensure its in proper working order - along with periodic renewals of your license to own.

Oh, and you must maintain liability insurance - in the event of an unfortunate accident...

Eliminate qualifications for president - let the electorate decide who is qualified, and who is not qualified.

Pre-game talking-head chatter is so overdone.  Most people just phase it out anyway.  I'd get rid of the Preamble and just start with the Amble.

Would have put gold and silver money in the Bill of Rights so it couldn't have been so easily ignored.  Citizens have the right to honest money that is naturally scarce, this right to naturally scarce money is just as important as freedom of speech and the right to bear arms.  Naturally scarce money gives citizens the freedom at times to not board the S.S.Titanic economy, which runs on artificial money, retain their savings as true wealth, and not go down with the socialists when their utopian socialist ship eventually sinks.  Artificial money forced on citizens to accept and controlled by banks and goverment that can be created at will and handed to their powerful friends (which thru the unnatural expansion of the money supply is a taking of wealth via monetary inflation and a violation of the fifth amendment) is clearly a violation of individual freedom and anti constitutional.   It should have required a constitutional amendment to abolish constitutional money.

Under the power of Congress to go into debt, I would require some reasonable expectation that they have a plan to get out of debt at a later date.  The wife can't run up the credit card balance to infinity and never pay it back.  Thats basically what the national debt is now.  The founders never imagined the current sorry state of affairs, because they had gold and silver as money right in the constitution and they didn't think that could it be ignored.  It was and that's why we now have an unplayable national debt.

Would have made it clear that consitutional rights are not to be suspended (technically, gold as money is currently suspended), reinterpreted by wise Latinas, ignored, or whatever other liberal tricks are played to get around the constitution.

Would have capitalized SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED in the second amendment and listed every conceivable method of infringement (gun free zones, gun registration, etc).

Just a few random comments:

The problem with a balanced budget amendment like RL suggests is that when the economy contracts you get an automatic rise in the Debt/GDP ratio, and to comply with the law the only fiscal tools available to legislators would be further contractionary. They'd have to either raise taxes, cut spending or both to maintain the ratio, and as the economy continues to shrink they would need to tax/cut more and more. I do like a framework for budget controls like PAYGO but dont think it should reside at the constitutional level.

Re: term limits, I'd go the other way and get rid of the 22nd Ammendment. This has mostly been covered but I think it's dumb to limit our options to pick the best candidate. I also think term limits at the congressional level would increase rather than decreased the influence of special interests.

The 2nd amendment needs to updated to allow for sensible regulation of modern arms. Actually it just needs to be interpreted correctly based on the full amendment but I'd reword it so there's no room for  debate.

Create an amendment that radically strengthens the 4th to include modern personal data protection.

Create an amendment that requires all Federal employees to abide and be subject to all laws passed by Congress. (IE no exemptions for Congress- see obamacare).

Create an amendment to have a "revolving door tax" of 90% of income for any member of the legislative branch who immediately becomes a lobbyist or goes to work in an industry they had ties to while in congress, after their term ends.

Abolish homeland security and the EPA.

Require all Federal employees to register personal off the books email used for govt business. Failure to do so is treason and punishable as a major felony and 20 yr minimum sentence.

Change Federal budgeting to encourage annual savings within departments. Current system encourages spending above budgets.
